At this moment, Liu Guanfeng appeared calm, but within him, an intense Campus Competition was taking place, with the opposing forces being the Fighting Qi from the Dragon Ball and a massive bolt of lightning.
The lightning darted back and forth inside Liu Guanfeng's body, scattering all the Fighting Qi surrounding it and creating chaos. The small dragon within the Dragon Ball, seeing the lightning's arrogance, charged directly at it and began to entangle with it.
It was unclear how long they struggled together, but eventually, the small dragon bit down on the lightning's tail. It then began to slowly absorb the lightning's energy, causing the bolt to shrink rapidly until it was finally consumed by the small dragon.
No one knew how much time had passed during this process; all that was clear was that during Liu Guanfeng's unconsciousness, the Wolf King showed no signs of waking up. The wild wolves watching from the side did not dare to approach the boulder too closely, demonstrating the Mutated Wolf King's intimidating presence among them. This ensured that Liu Guanfeng was not torn apart by the wild wolves while he was unconscious.
As time passed, Liu Guanfeng slowly began to awaken on the following morning. When he regained consciousness, he realized not only was he alive, but his cultivation had also increased. The extent of this growth surprised him; he discovered that another meridian had been opened in his body. This meant he had reached the peak of a mid-level Advanced Knight.
After stretching his limbs and finding no significant injuries, he turned his gaze towards the Wolf King. At that moment, the Wolf King opened its eyes and was astonished to see that the boy it thought was doomed was still standing there. Judging by his aura, he seemed unharmed and even stronger.
The Mutated Wolf King shouted in disbelief, "How are you still alive? Why? Has my ultimate move failed?"
Liu Guanfeng smiled and shook his head. "Sorry to disappoint you, but to be honest, I don't know how I survived. All I know is that I'm alive, and as long as I'm alive, it means you are going to die."
At this point, the Mutated Wolf King had nothing more to say and lowered its head. It wasn't that it didn't want to resist; rather, its strength had diminished to about a fraction of its original power. It couldn't even stand up properly.
Liu Guanfeng slowly approached the Mutated Wolf King. The Wolf King raised its head and said, "Human, may I have one last word?"
"Feel free to leave your last words."
"Can I ask you to spare my subordinates? They have followed me for many years. The opposition against the Four Sacred Islands was solely my decision; they were unaware of it. As I am about to die, I do not wish for them to perish alongside me. I swear they will never leave Wolf Island if you let them go."
Liu Guanfeng was not a bloodthirsty person by nature; however, he understood the principle of eliminating threats completely. Still, those were thousands of lives at stake. He found it hard to take action against them. If he could truly recruit all these wild wolves as his mounts in preparation for future battles, then he would never have to worry about lacking mounts again. Although he already had Four Sacred Mountains as backup mounts, no one would complain about having too many magical beasts. Moreover, these wild wolves possessed diverse elemental attributes and included numerous Mutated Wolves—factors that tempted Liu Guanfeng.
"How can I trust your words? What if they seek revenge after your death?"
"Rest assured; shortly I will choose a new Wolf King from below. Then we will both swear an oath before heaven that all of Wolf Island will acknowledge you as their master and never betray you."
Magical beasts hold oaths in high regard; any beast that breaks an oath—regardless of its level—will ultimately be hunted down by all other magical beasts until it is killed. Therefore, for the Mutated Wolf King to make such a statement indicated its firm resolve.
Liu Guanfeng nodded, "Alright, let's proceed as you suggested. If they go back on their word, I won't hesitate to wipe out the entire Wolf Island. From now on, there will be no wolves left on Wolf Island."
The Mutated Wolf King weakly nodded, "I understand. I don't think they will resist you."
After speaking, the Mutated Wolf King turned to the wolf pack below and shouted, "Moshuo, come out."
Hearing the Wolf King's call, a wolf emerged from the pack. It was slightly smaller than the Wild Wolf King but much larger than the other wild wolves. The wolf approached the rock and lay down, howling towards the sky.
"Moshuo, I hereby pass on the position of Wolf King to you. From now on, you are the Wolf King of all of Wolf Island. However, you must swear to serve this young man as your master from today onward. Without his command, you are never to step outside the boundaries of Wolf Island. If you disobey, may the island sink and the wolves perish forever."
Upon hearing the Mutated Wolf King's words, Moshuo howled towards the sky. However, Liu Guanfeng could not understand what they were saying. He saw a contract-like rune rise from Moshuo's head, and then the wolf spat out a blood arrow that fell onto the rune, which quickly absorbed it and vanished without a trace.
Just as Liu Guanfeng was questioning the content of Moshuo's oath, he heard Little Black's voice in his mind: "Xiaofeng, this new Wolf King just swore to serve you as his master and will never betray you."
Hearing the translation from his "interpreter," Liu Guanfeng felt relieved and turned his head towards the Mutated Wolf King. He saw that after nodding at Moshuo, the Mutated Wolf King slowly closed his eyes and said, "Human, please do not approach me. I do not wish to die at a human's hands. As a former Wolf King, I hope you can grant me a final bit of dignity."
Liu Guanfeng nodded; after all, this Wolf King had just given him a great gift, so granting him this dignity was no issue. Liu Guanfeng stepped back a few paces while holding his Twin Iron Halberds and watched the Mutated Wolf King.
Feeling Liu Guanfeng's retreat, the Mutated Wolf King began to channel energy. Suddenly, it seemed as if its body was inflated by energy before returning to calmness. Blood started flowing from its mouth as it collapsed to the ground with a thud.
"It has self-destructed its heart," Little Black communicated again when he saw Liu Guanfeng's confusion. "You should now take the Wolf King's pelt and core, then throw the wolf meat to the New Wolf King below."
"Isn't that inappropriate? After all, we are in front of its subjects; how can we do such a thing?" Liu Guanfeng replied to Little Black.
"Don't worry about it. The customs of wolves are different from those of other magical beasts. When they have a new Wolf King, if the previous one dies, the new one will eat the old one to inherit its soul. The other wild wolves will believe that their old Wolf King is blessing them. This is a custom among wolves; they won't have any negative feelings as long as you feed them the old Wolf King's meat."
Liu Guanfeng glanced at Moshuo, the New Wolf King below. He noticed that this Wolf King looked greedily at the corpse of the Mutated Wolf King but dared not approach it while Liu Guanfeng was present. The wild wolves behind it also looked at the corpse with similar greedy eyes.
Seeing this situation eased Liu Guanfeng's mind. He took out a dagger for protection from his pocket and began to skin the wolf slowly. This was Liu Guanfeng's first time skinning and extracting a core himself; his technique was quite clumsy. Fortunately, he had observed mercenaries skinning before and had become more skilled over time. After half an hour, Liu Guanfeng finally removed all of the wolf pelt and held the core in his hand. He then threw the corpse of the Mutated Wolf King at New Wolf King's feet. The New Wolf King paused for a moment before lying down as if bowing to Liu Guanfeng; after bowing several times, it got up and began to eat.
Within ten minutes, all of the Mutated Wolf King's body had been consumed by the New Wolf King. The remaining parts were divided among its guards and other wild wolves behind it. Afterward, this New Wolf King howled towards the sky before lying down motionless. The other wild wolves scattered as well; eventually, over five hundred wild wolves remained near the rocks, acting like guards around Liu Guanfeng and patrolling vigilantly with respect to him and the New Wolf King.
Liu Guanfeng sat quietly on the rock, watching the new Wolf King.
"Xiaofeng, you should rest there for a day. The new Wolf King needs to digest the energy from the old Wolf King's body after eating it. Once it absorbs all the energy, it will wake up. Besides, that new Wolf King has already sent its subordinates to hunt for you. I believe you will have food soon. Don't worry; you are safest there right now."
After hearing Little Black's message, Liu Guanfeng sat on the rock and waited quietly. Sure enough, about half an hour later, he heard a lot of wolf footsteps coming from below the rock. Liu Guanfeng opened his eyes to see numerous wolves emerging from the depths of the forest, dragging various types of food: turkeys, Golden Roosters, Cloud Rabbits, Aqua Arrow Rabbits, deer, sheep, and a pile of other prey, including some seafood.
The wolves worked together to throw all the food onto the rock. Even the large sheep and deer were accurately tossed up, indicating that these wolves had done this many times before.
Liu Guanfeng was not idle either; since the wolves couldn't gather firewood, he had to do it himself. After collecting some dry branches from the nearby forest, Liu Guanfeng built a campfire on the rock and moved the prey to a small river nearby to begin skinning and cleaning it. He then placed the prepared food on a grill, and soon the aroma of roasted meat wafted throughout Wolf Island.
More and more wolves gathered around the base of the rock, looking at Liu Guanfeng with pitiful expressions. Meanwhile, Liu Guanfeng continued to roast the prey calmly. The fat from the meat dripped onto the fire with a sizzling sound that was incredibly tempting; even Liu Guanfeng couldn't help but swallow his saliva.
After roasting for a while, Liu Guanfeng saw that the meat was fully cooked. He took down one leg each from the sheep, deer, rabbit, and chicken, leaving behind a fish. He then tossed all the remaining food down to the wolf pack. Although they were drawn by the delicious smell and eager to rush forward for a bite, they did not pounce when Liu Guanfeng threw down his food.
Two wolves emerged from behind the Wolf King and brought two roasted rabbits to place in front of the New Wolf King. After keeping some food for themselves, only then did those wolves with relatively higher status dare to step forward and take their share. Thus, layer by layer, all of Liu Guanfeng's discarded food was shared among them.
Liu Guanfeng sat on the rock eating while observing the orderly behavior of the wolves below. The New Wolf King also got up upon smelling the aroma and devoured the two rabbits in front of it before continuing to rest with its eyes closed.
After eating roasted meat and fish, night gradually fell. Seeing that the New Wolf King had not awakened yet, Liu Guanfeng closed his eyes and went to sleep. In a daze, he felt some movement around him and opened his eyes again. Below him, the New Wolf King was still lying on the ground; however, a massive amount of energy surged toward its body from the air surrounding it. At that moment, it seemed as if the New Wolf King's body was an endless pit crazily absorbing energy. Liu Guanfeng realized that this Wolf King might be about to evolve.
The entire process lasted about an hour or so while those responsible for protection stood at their posts as if facing a great enemy.
