As Liu Guanfeng just stepped out of the grand hall, he noticed someone watching him from the shadows. With a sweep of his spiritual sense, he recognized it was Hong Tao.
Hong Tao felt a surge of anger as he watched Liu Guanfeng emerge from Zhang Yuru's hall. He had previously been unable to compete with Chu Jiang Tian, who liked Zhang Yuru. Although they were of similar status, Hong Tao felt he could not compare in terms of martial arts, appearance, or cunning. He had to bury his feelings deep inside. However, things were different now; with Chu Jiang Tian and his father gone, Hong Tao knew his opportunity had arrived. Throughout their journey, he had always been at the forefront of battles.
But just as he thought he had eliminated Chu Jiang Tian, another competitor appeared in Liu Guanfeng. This naturally sparked hostility in Hong Tao towards Liu Guanfeng. In terms of status, Hong Tao was now the Vice Leader, while Liu Guanfeng was merely the President of a Merchant Guild, a step below him. As for martial prowess, Hong Tao was a Vanguard Officer and an Advanced Knight, while Liu Guanfeng was just a merchant. Although Hong Tao couldn't come up with any brilliant strategies himself, he thought Liu Guanfeng's suggestions were unconstructive.
After weighing his advantages over Liu Guanfeng, Hong Tao decided he must push Liu Guanfeng out; he did not want another Chu Jiang Tian to emerge.
Liu Guanfeng was completely indifferent to Hong Tao's thoughts because he knew that Hong Tao was straightforward and also a fierce warrior from the New World.
Liu Guanfeng went straight to the military camp after leaving Da Tian. Upon arriving at the camp, he was stopped by a soldier at the entrance. "Who are you? What brings you here?"
"I need help finding someone."
"Who are you looking for?"
"I'm looking for Golden Mad Eagle and Liu Jiang."
"You mean the two captains of the Special Operations Team?"
Liu Guanfeng nodded. "That's right."
At this moment, the soldier straightened his posture. "You think you can just ask for whoever you want? Who do you think you are? How do I know you're not a spy sent by Severe Winter to assassinate someone?"
Liu Guanfeng understood that this soldier wanted something in return. Normally, he might have offered something, but this time was different. He had a mission to deliver to those two individuals, and since the New World had just arrived in Summer City, allowing such behavior to take root would damage its reputation.
Thus, instead of offering money, Liu Guanfeng looked at the soldier with interest. "So, will you help me find them or not?"
Seeing Liu Guanfeng's politeness made the soldier bolder. He brandished his Steel Blade in front of his chest and said, "I already told you I can't know if you're a spy or not. I'm not helping you find anyone. If there's nothing else, get lost and stop being an eyesore here."
"Alright, if you won't let me in, I'll go in myself."
Seeing Liu Guanfeng trying to enter, the guard soldier immediately became furious. The soldier who had been standing guard stepped in front of Liu Guanfeng, his Steel Blade ready to strike at any moment. The soldier shouted, "How dare you, Thief! I see you as a spy. Brothers, capture him!"
The other soldiers guarding the entrance also drew their weapons, forming a semicircle around Liu Guanfeng.
Liu Guanfeng smiled at the soldiers in front of him, but inside he felt quite frustrated. He never expected that no one would recognize him. This was not entirely his fault; after arriving in the New World, he had gone out on a mission shortly thereafter and disappeared. The only soldiers who knew him were the two hundred who had gone out for training.
At that moment, a voice came from the barracks: "What is going on here?"
From the voice, Liu Guanfeng recognized it was Golden Mad Eagle, whom he intended to find. Golden Mad Eagle and his men were patrolling the barracks to prevent any rebellion among the recently surrendered soldiers. As they approached the gate and noticed a commotion, he brought his twenty soldiers over.
When Golden Mad Eagle got closer, he immediately spotted Liu Guanfeng. He parted the soldiers in front of him and knelt before Liu Guanfeng on one knee. "I greet you, President Liu."
Liu Guanfeng nodded. "Get up."
After Golden Mad Eagle stood up, he asked Liu Guanfeng, "President Liu, is there something wrong?"
Liu Guanfeng pointed at the soldier who had been blocking him. "I was trying to find you and Liu Jiang, but this young man thinks I'm a spy."
Golden Mad Eagle turned to the soldier and said, "Are you blind? Don't you recognize this is the President of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce? Without President Liu, where would you get your armor and weapons?"
While Liu Guanfeng and Golden Mad Eagle were at the gate, someone in the camp was watching them from a distance. A sly smile appeared on this person's face as a group emerged from inside the camp. The person waved at one of the Squad Leaders in that group. The Squad Leader quickly ran over and saluted. "Vice Leader Hong."
The person was none other than Hong Tao, who had been monitoring Liu Guanfeng. Hong Tao immediately made a shushing gesture and whispered in the soldier's ear, "Go find Hong Jian in the camp and tell him..."
After hearing Hong Tao's words, the soldier glanced toward the gate and nodded in response. After a while, there was a commotion coming from inside the Barracks, followed by nearly a hundred people emerging under the lead of a strong man in his thirties.
The man shouted loudly at the gate, "What is going on? Why are so many people gathered here? Is someone planning a rebellion?"
The four guards at the gate seemed to breathe a sigh of relief upon seeing the newcomer, as if they had found their backbone. They immediately cleared a path for the burly man who had come out: "Captain Hong."
The newcomer didn't even glance at Liu Guanfeng; instead, he focused on the four guards: "Are you the ones guarding the gate today?"
One of the soldiers nodded: "Yes, Captain Hong, it's us four."
"Tell me what happened."
"Captain Hong, that person wants to go in and find Captain Jin of the Special Forces and Team Leader Liu. When we wouldn't let him, he tried to force his way in," the soldier said, pointing at Liu Guanfeng.
"What Special Forces? Aren't they just a bunch of insignificant little guys? Always up to some petty tricks," Hong Jian said disdainfully.
"Hong Jian, watch your mouth. Who's up to petty tricks?"
Hong Jian pretended to just notice Golden Mad Eagle: "Oh, Captain Jin, I didn't see you there. I was just saying how you all are up to no good."
When the Special Forces were established, Liu Guanfeng had agreed with Zhang Yuru that their direct leaders would be Zhang Yuru and Liu Guanfeng. Therefore, even though Golden Mad Eagle and his team were soldiers of the New World, they did not take orders from any Vice Leader. Moreover, they received much better treatment than other soldiers in the barracks, which led to complaints and provocations from some discontented soldiers. However, they ignored these provocations.
Under normal circumstances, Golden Mad Eagle could have ignored Hong Jian's taunts, but today was different. Behind him stood Liu Guanfeng, and Golden Mad Eagle was one of the soldiers brought over from Diaoyu Island by Liu Guanfeng. Those soldiers had already revered Liu Guanfeng like a god during their time on Diaoyu Island; they could not continue to endure provocation in front of him.
Golden Mad Eagle coldly stared at Hong Jian: "Captain Hong, I hope you will take responsibility for what you said today." As he spoke, Golden Mad Eagle slowly drew out his dual knives specifically designed for Special Forces members. Although these knives were only half the size of a regular steel blade, they were meticulously crafted by blacksmiths from the Chinese Chamber of Commerce and were far superior to ordinary soldiers' equipment.
However, Hong Jian showed no fear at all. Seeing Golden Mad Eagle's actions made him smile: "What's wrong, Golden Mad Eagle? Can't keep your cool? If you have the guts, why not shrink back like before? Isn't it better to keep being a coward?"
"Hong Jian, you've been looking down on us Special Forces since we entered the camp. If it weren't for my orders, you would have been dead many times over after your repeated provocations. If I endure you again today, then I'm not a man."
"Well then, I'd like to see how much of a man you are." With that, Hong Jian drew his sword and pointed its tip at Golden Mad Eagle.
In the past, Liu Guanfeng might have stepped in to mediate; although he couldn't organize against Hong Jian directly, he could still command Golden Mad Eagle. However, recently Liu Guanfeng had been hearing complaints from the Special Forces members. Since entering the military camp, they had faced ridicule from many soldiers. Fortunately for them, since they were in a military environment, those soldiers hadn't done anything too outrageous.
After a long-standing grudge, the Golden Mad Eagle exploded in front of Liu Guanfeng today. Liu Guanfeng, knowing that if he intervened, his image in the eyes of the Special Forces Members would be shaken, decided to simply watch the excitement unfold.
Seeing that Liu Guanfeng did not intervene gave the Golden Mad Eagle some confidence. The others quickly cleared a space for the two captains as they prepared to fight. At this moment, the Golden Mad Eagle stood inside the military camp while Hong Jian stood outside, both looking at each other across the gate.
To avoid causing too much chaos, Liu Guanfeng transmitted a message to the Golden Mad Eagle: "Crazy Eagle, just teach him a lesson; don't let it escalate to life and death. After all, we are all brothers in the same camp."
The Golden Mad Eagle couldn't transmit messages, so he could only nod to indicate he understood. However, Hong Jian misinterpreted this and laughed loudly, saying, "Golden Mad Eagle, today you won't get away with just nodding; even if you pray or burn incense, it's useless. Just lie down for me."
As soon as he finished speaking, Hong Jian lunged forward with his sword. The Golden Mad Eagle calmly used his left-hand dagger to deflect Hong Jian's sword while sweeping his right-hand dagger towards Hong Jian's neck.
Seeing the dagger coming for his neck, Hong Jian executed the Iron Bridge technique, leaning back to dodge the Golden Mad Eagle's right-hand dagger. Taking advantage of this movement, the Golden Mad Eagle stepped forward and crouched down, placing his left-hand dagger directly against Hong Jian's neck.
Originally intending to quickly rise and continue fighting, Hong Jian did not expect the Golden Mad Eagle's speed. With the dagger pressing firmly against his neck, Hong Jian found himself flat on the ground. The Golden Mad Eagle kept his dagger poised at Hong Jian's throat.
"Don't move," said the Golden Mad Eagle. "If you do, I'll make you bleed."
The soldiers who had intended to cheer for Hong Jian were stunned; they never expected him to be subdued without even blocking a single attack. The opponent's speed was astonishing!
Looking at Hong Jian, the Golden Mad Eagle asked, "So, Captain Hong, do you surrender?"
"Surrender? You caught me off guard just now. If I had been more careful, you wouldn't stand a chance against me."
"Is that so? Then I'll give you time to prepare, and we'll compete again. Today, I will fight until you surrender."
