One hundred soldiers, exhausted from a night of shouting, had finally fallen into dreams. The military camp, just one kilometer away, was also eerily quiet; even the people at Firehead Camp had not stirred. The previous night had been incredibly tiring, not from physical exertion but from mental strain.
As dawn broke, everyone felt an overwhelming fatigue. They had stood outside their tents all night, fearing an attack from the enemy. However, until morning, there had been no signs of aggression; apart from a mess of pots and pans scattered about, no weapons were in sight.
After a night filled with anxiety, they were now engulfed in infinite weariness. Once the alert was lifted, everyone fell into a deep sleep, so much so that by breakfast time, no one had risen to cook, and there was not a single person eating.
In Little Star Village, Liu Guanfeng and his two brothers had already finished breakfast. When the ten captains reported last night's events to the two Grand Marshals, Liu Guanlei and Liu Guanyu both gave Liu Guanfeng a thumbs up.
Liu Guanyu said, "Third Brother, I didn't expect your tactic to be so cunning. Just now, our scouts reported that there is complete silence in their entire Vanguard Camp; not even a wisp of smoke is rising. I suspect they are sound asleep."
"What plans do the two Grand Marshals have next?"
Liu Guanyu laughed heartily: "What else can we plan? Of course, we can't let them sleep too soundly. Wang Huai, Chen Wei."
"I am here."
"I am assigning you each ten thousand men. Go to the enemy's Vanguard Camp and test their defenses."
"Understood."
The two Minor Generals turned to leave the Tent, and Liu Guanlei also stood up: "Let's go up to the city wall and apply some pressure on them."
When Liu Guanlei and his group reached the city wall, the two Minor Generals had already taken their men out through the city gate. They stopped about five hundred meters from the main camp and sent a Lieutenant to demand an audience.
The soldiers guarding the gate were also extremely fatigued and dozing off at their posts. However, they were startled awake by the Lieutenant's arrival and looked at him in panic. One of the guards scrambled into the military camp and ran straight to Na Kuang's tent: "Report... report! General, the enemy has sent someone to demand an audience!"
Hearing this report, Na Kuang sat up abruptly and quickly donned his armor. At that moment, the Gathering Drum began to sound. Before long, what had been a quiet military camp erupted into chaos.
In the Vanguard Camp, soldiers from Na Kuang and Zhong Yi to Firehead Camp all had bloodshot eyes, as they had only just slept for a little over an hour.
After gathering all the troops, Na Kuang and Zhong Yi led twenty thousand soldiers out of the military camp and confronted the army of Starfall Kingdom at the gate.
As they positioned themselves among the ranks facing Starfall Kingdom, a rider emerged, wielding two iron rods and riding a black Earth Rhino. He shouted at Na Kuang, "Who are you on the opposite side? Why do you trespass on our borders without reason?"
Na Kuang was filled with immense anger; they had not slept all night, and now they were being forced to stand ready so early in the morning. The thought only fueled his rage further, and he shouted back, "I am Na Kuang, General of Huaxing Kingdom's Vanguard. Who disturbed my army last night and kept us awake? If you have the guts, let’s fight with real weapons. Is it that your Starfall Kingdom only knows how to use such despicable tactics?"
The rider on the Earth Rhino, a Minor General, laughed. "Then General, if you come here to provoke us, you are our enemy. Your disturbance is self-inflicted; you have no one to blame but yourselves."
"Then today, if you seek death, you have no one to blame but yourself. You can stay here," Na Kuang said as he prepared to charge out. However, he was stopped by Zhong Yi beside him. "General, do not be hasty; the opponent is merely a named character."
"I am willing to take on their level to vent my frustrations for the Vanguard Officer," said a figure who then dashed out from Huaxing Kingdom's ranks. This person wielded a pair of dual axes and rode a Fire Wolf. He stepped forward between the two armies and pointed with his hand. "State your name; I do not kill nameless ghosts."
"I am Chen Wei, a general under Grand Marshal Liu Guanlei of Starfall Kingdom. When you reach the King of Hell, do not forget to mention my name." With that, Chen Wei swung his dual iron rods and charged forward.
As an Earth Attribute warrior, Chen Wei excelled in defense. However, since Liu Guanlei and Liu Guanyu became generals, they had provided him with martial guidance during their daily training sessions. Under their instruction, Chen Wei's strength had significantly improved; he had learned many offensive techniques alongside his defensive skills.
When Chen Wei engaged with the opposing general, he quickly realized that his opponent's strength was definitely superior to his own. Although he was already an Intermediate Knight of medium rank, the other was at least an upper-tier Intermediate Knight. Despite this disparity in strength, Chen Wei found himself able to cope well; thanks to the guidance from both Grand Marshals, he had improved considerably. While he could not challenge someone of a higher rank directly, he felt confident against opponents slightly stronger than himself. Moreover, after a sleepless night filled with anxiety, it was clear that the opposing general was already showing signs of fatigue.
Chen Wei fought for over thirty exchanges without either side gaining an advantage.
Liu Guanfeng observed that although the enemy's formation appeared orderly at first glance, a closer look revealed their spirits were low; it was evident they had not rested enough. Standing next to him, Liu Guanlei also noticed this and immediately signaled for an attack using flag signals. Upon receiving orders, Wang Huai commanded his Ten Thousand People to charge toward the enemy's ranks.
As the enemy advanced, Na Kuang waved his hand as well; his two Ten Thousand People also surged forward. The battle shifted from a duel between generals into a chaotic melee.
This was precisely what Liu Guanfeng needed; what he required most at this moment was for his soldiers to accumulate combat experience.
The two sides fought for nearly an hour, and Liu Guanfeng felt that the training was about over, so he ordered the two brothers to call it a day.
In this battle, Starfall City deployed ten thousand troops, resulting in thirty-seven deaths, fifty-six serious injuries, and seven hundred eighty-two minor injuries, with two Minor Generals sustaining minor injuries. The opposing side deployed twenty thousand troops and suffered two hundred forty-eight deaths, three hundred sixty-seven serious injuries, and two thousand nine hundred five minor injuries; one Minor General was seriously injured, and two Minor Generals were lightly injured.
From these statistics, it is clear that Starfall City achieved a victory in this battle, which also reflects the quality of armor worn by the soldiers of Starfall.
After Na Kuang returned to the military camp with his men, the first thing he did was not to summarize the reasons for their defeat but to immediately announce that the entire army would set up camp three hundred meters outside Xiaoye Village.
As soon as Na Kuang brought the troops to their destination, he was summoned by Commander Wu Ta.
Na Kuang and Zhong Yi did not dare to delay and quickly arrived at Xiaoye Village. When they entered the tent, they noticed that Wu Ta's expression was not good: "Na Kuang, Zhong Yi. Why did you bring the army back?"
Na Kuang and Zhong Yi immediately knelt down: "Reporting to Commander, this is what happened..." Na Kuang recounted how their army had been disturbed last night, infuriating Wu Ta who slammed his hand on the table: "Those scoundrels from Starfall Kingdom actually resorted to such underhanded tactics. You may return now; let your soldiers rest well today. We will fight again another day."
"Thank you, Commander."
"I see you both look tired; go back and rest for a while."
When Na Kuang and Zhong Yi returned to their tent, lunch was already prepared. After eating lunch, they did not go to sleep; after a battle, everyone felt invigorated. Although they were still tired, their drowsiness had disappeared.
Na Kuang and Zhong Yi spent the afternoon cursing the person who kept them awake. Meanwhile, Liu Guanfeng sneezed repeatedly in Little Star Village. Seeing Liu Guanfeng sneezing non-stop, Liu Guanyu laughed and said: "Third Brother, looking at you like this, I don't even need to ask; it must be Na Kuang cursing you in his camp."
"Isn't it your idea that got me into this? Ah... Ah-choo! Now you're just adding insult to injury."
After sending all the Generals away, Liu Guanyu quietly approached Liu Guanfeng and looked at his unhappy face: "Third Brother, since they think so highly of you, are you going to prepare some gifts for them today?"
Liu Guanfeng glanced at his Second Brother: "I'm currently helping both of you Grand Marshals; you’re making fun of me now. I won’t bother anymore. Anyway, with both of you around, I don’t have to worry."
“Third Brother, don't be so stingy. Second Brother is just trying to make it up to you.”
“Then you need to treat me to something delicious.”
“No problem, Third Brother. Just tell me what you want to eat, and I'll go buy it for you right away.”
“Well, Second Brother, you handle it then.”
“Sure thing, Third Brother. Just wait, I will definitely satisfy you tonight.”
“Alright, I'll go back to my tent and wait for Second Brother's sincerity.” After saying that, Liu Guanfeng turned and left the Tent. As soon as he stepped outside, he called Cui Zhongyi over: “Senior Brother, I need your help with something tonight.”
“What is it?”
After giving the task to Cui Zhongyi, Liu Guanfeng returned to his own tent.
After dinner, Liu Guanyu came to Liu Guanfeng's room with a lot of snacks, including many of Liu Guanfeng's favorites. Seeing all the snacks that Liu Guanyu brought, Liu Guanfeng grabbed them in his hands and said to Liu Guanyu: “Thank you, Second Brother. You don’t have to worry about anything here.”
“Third Brother, you're being ungrateful. You haven't told me what you're going to do tonight yet.”
“If you're interested, you can see it when you go up on the city wall with Big Brother at one o'clock tonight.”
“They've already moved out; can we still see anything from the city wall?”
“You'll find out when you go up. I'm going to eat now. Thanks, Vice Marshal.”
“If I don't see anything good, just wait until tomorrow for how I'll deal with you.” After saying that, Liu Guanyu left Liu Guanfeng's room.
Liu Guanyu returned to Liu Guanlei's tent and asked, "Second Brother, what did Third Brother say? What new tricks do we have tonight?"
"He told us that when we go up the city wall at one o'clock, we will find out."
"Alright, let's go to sleep now and see what surprise Third Brother has for us tonight."
At one o'clock in the evening, Liu Guanlei and Liu Guanyu were awakened by the guards. They quickly got dressed and climbed up to the city wall together.
As soon as they reached the top of the wall, they noticed a fire rising in the direction of Xiaoye Village. The two brothers exchanged glances. "Second Brother, you have to admit that Third Brother really knows how to handle things."
"Of course! Sometimes I even wonder if he is really our father's and mother's child. Otherwise, how come we don't have as much cleverness as he does?"
"Enough with your nonsense. Isn't it good that we have Third Brother helping us? If we weren't full siblings, why would he be so dedicated to assisting us?"
"Alright, big brother, I was just expressing my thoughts. Now that we've seen the show, it's time for us to go back to sleep."
"Let's go to sleep. After two days of disturbances, they must be fed up with us. We need to conserve our energy."
The two brothers turned to leave. As Liu Guanlei reached the city gate, he instructed the captain nearby, "Make sure to keep a close watch on the opposite side and report anything immediately."
The next day, when everyone arrived at the tent, Liu Guanlei asked Liu Guanfeng, "General Liu, do you know what method you used last night to ambush the enemy camp?"
"Grand Marshal, it was actually quite simple. Last night I sent the Longbow Squad out with some kerosene. The results you saw from the city wall were just that straightforward."
