"His Highness has arrived." Another loud voice echoed, followed by the steady sound of footsteps on the floor, creating a muffled thud.
Yui's mind went blank. Wasn't she supposed to be a maid for the Fourth Prince? How did it turn into serving the Crown Prince? Wasn't the Crown Prince that terrifying person from that night?
Yui couldn't help but shiver.
The Eunuch called out to the two of them in a low voice, "Aren't you going to kneel?"
"Oh, oh." Yui didn't know how to perform the greeting. Out of the corner of her eye, she glanced at Dian Yin, trying to mimic her movements, but her actions were a beat too slow. The Eunuch watched in horror; he had chosen her for her good qualities, so why was she like this as soon as she entered? He hoped his life wouldn't be put in jeopardy because of her.
"This servant, Little Electric, pays respects to His Highness."
For safety's sake, Dian Yin and Yui couldn't reveal their real names, so they resorted to using common nicknames. The most universal one was "Little," as seen in names like Little Red, Little Yellow, and Little Green throughout history.
"Little Electric?" A deep and pleasant voice slowly pronounced Yui's name, as if savoring an aged wine. The sound lingered near her ear, making her feel a bit lightheaded.
Yui quickly pinched herself; how could she be swayed by a mere mortal? How embarrassing.
"Raise your head," the Crown Prince continued. Although she couldn't see his face, from his voice, he must be a handsome man. If he was the same person from that night... would he recognize her and then silence her?
The answer was: very likely!
Yui admired herself for being able to think so much in such a crisis. She slowly lifted her head, revealing a red scar on her left cheek that almost covered her entire face, while the other side remained as pale as snow.
As they say, the Underworld has the Yin-Yang Envoy, and the Fourth Prince has the maid Red and White Faces. Truly impressive.
No one noticed the fleeting sadness in the Crown Prince's eyes, but Yui was shocked, and the Eunuch was about to faint.
It really was that cruel and terrifying man from that night, Yui thought.
Why did he choose such an ugly person? It seemed his mind was out of place, the Eunuch thought.
"Alright, you may leave," the Crown Prince said wearily as he waved his hand and stood up to walk toward the Inner Chamber. His robe swayed in the wind, brushing against Yui's cheek and leaving a trace of fragrance.
