The Crown Prince lifted the carriage curtain and glanced at the night sky. Suddenly, he turned back and smiled at Yui, making her feel dizzy from the brightness of his smile.
A few days later, the carriage returned to the region of the Western Frontier, and the disaster victims behind them dispersed on their own.
Yui was puzzled. "Why are they doing this? Is it just to force us back here?"
"Naturally, they don't want us to leave. They must have their own wishes, but they might also be incited by others."
Yui paused for a moment and reluctantly uttered three words, "Sixth Prince?"
Although the Sixth Prince had deceived her and used her, she still felt that he wasn't inherently bad; he must have been provoked in some way to become so extreme.
Yui slowly moved closer and nestled in the Crown Prince's embrace, looking up at him. "Isn't Wushuang helping you gather evidence? As long as we return to the capital, we can convict him. Why do we need to come back?"
The Crown Prince stroked her head and after a while replied, "I am in the light while the enemy is in the dark. We are outnumbered and cannot confront them directly right now. For now, this is all we can do, and these disaster victims still haven't been properly settled."
"What about your shadows?" Yui suddenly remembered. "I felt many shadows following us when we came."
The Crown Prince gently curled his lips. "As expected of a divine being, my shadows are renowned for their exceptional concealment skills. There was an issue in the capital, so I recalled them, but they should arrive in a couple of days."
"That's good."
That evening, countless soldiers suddenly surged out of the inn, and from among them emerged a portly Prefect, his face adorned with a fawning smile. Upon spotting the Crown Prince from a distance, he immediately knelt and bowed three times, exclaiming, "I did not know His Highness the Crown Prince was here. I have failed to welcome you properly; please forgive me."
Yui was taken aback by the scene. They had come secretly and left just as quietly—how had news of their arrival spread?
He glanced at the Crown Prince, who appeared unfazed by the situation.
"I am traveling incognito; those who are unaware are not at fault. Please rise," the Crown Prince said.
"Yes, yes." The Prefect wiped the sweat from his forehead, nodding and bowing. "Your Highness, please allow me to escort you to my Government Office so that I may extend my hospitality."
"Very well, let’s go." The Crown Prince had no objections and took Yui's hand as they walked out.
