It was afternoon, and although it was the hottest time of the day, I felt no warmth at all. The dense trees around us made the air feel humid, so even though I had been walking for several hours and was exhausted, the coolness was quite comfortable.
I silently followed the group of Divine Hand. The Evil Bird seemed to have received some orders, as it kept watching me closely, probably to prevent my escape. In fact, I thought there was no need for them to do this because in this situation, even if they tried to drive me away, I wouldn't leave!
Lemon had gotten lost, or rather, I had lost my way and couldn't find the destination on my own. Since Lemon knew them, our destination must be the same, so I wasn't in a hurry to find Lemon. I thought it would be better to follow them for now; perhaps it would be smoother that way. Especially when I recalled those Wronged Spirits I encountered last night, I felt a chill run down my spine. If it weren't for Dabao being ahead of me, I might have been scared to death or gone completely insane...
After walking for about another hour, Divine Hand finally called everyone to sit down and rest for a while. More accurately, it could be said that they were resting while holding a meeting. Besides me being watched by two people, even the Evil Bird scurried over to sit beside Divine Hand. Since they were sitting quite far away, I could only hear vague whispers, but their expressions suggested they were facing some trouble.
While paying attention to their actions, I sat there chewing on tasteless Compressed Biscuits. After their discussion, I didn't know if they reached any conclusions, but Divine Hand and the others stood up again after about ten minutes, and we continued on our way.
The sun gradually set in the west as we kept moving without rest. I was so tired that I felt like collapsing, yet none of them complained about fatigue. I almost suspected they had taken some stimulant. Throughout the journey, aside from the Evil Bird occasionally mocking me with a few jabs, the entire group spoke no more than three sentences! Such a disciplined team must have some significant background!
Perhaps they were also wary of traveling in the dark; as the last rays of Radiance from the sunset faded away, they quickly set up tents and started a fire to boil water. Perhaps because I had performed well today, they relaxed their vigilance towards me. They probably realized that even if I tried to run away now, it wouldn't be safe for me, so they simply ignored me.
I calmly leaned against a large tree that could fit three people hugging it and seemingly casually pulled out a small bottle from my pocket. Although I felt several gazes turn towards me momentarily, they likely noticed that what I held posed no danger and soon lost interest.
I smirked slightly as I boredly played with the small glass bottle in my hand while feeling somewhat worried about Dabao. Lemon mentioned that the magnetic field here was unusual; I wondered how Dabao was doing. Speaking of which, he hadn't come out since entering last night—would he come out tonight for some fresh air? Just as I was thinking about this, I suddenly felt a coolness on my shoulder as if a hand had rested there. Thinking that those Wronged Spirits had returned, I quickly looked up but was surprised to see a radiant smiling face.
"Dabao!" I exclaimed in surprise. To my astonishment, everyone turned to look at me. They seemed not to see Dabao at all; feeling embarrassed, I awkwardly touched my nose and then closed my eyes again to rest, hoping they would think I was dreaming. After all, having walked all day long and being utterly exhausted made it normal to fall asleep as soon as one lay down.
Indeed, they did not raise any suspicions. Just as I opened my eyes again, Dabao had already sat cross-legged across from me and teased with a half-smile: "Mad Zi, you're impressive! Your acting skills could easily make it onto an Oscar list!"
"Alright, stop trying to provoke me," I said with a bitter smile, lowering my voice as I spoke to him.
Dabao hadn't answered yet when Evil Bird perked up his ears and looked at me, still wearing that unpleasant expression, and asked, "What is he mumbling about over there?"
"I can mumble however I want! If you have the guts, come bite me!" I rolled my eyes at Evil Bird, ignoring how ugly his expression was, and began humming a little tune proudly. Evil Bird eyed me suspiciously, but I ignored his gaze and continued to hum softly to myself.
"Where did these people come from? Where did Lime Brother go?" Dabao asked, glancing at the group with confusion.
"I got separated from him, and then when I ran into them..." I recounted what had happened last night to Dabao, then worriedly scolded him, "There's something wrong with the magnetic field here. How could you come out? Aren't you afraid of danger?"
Dabao was taken aback, seemingly not expecting my question. He grinned and said, "I was just worried about you. What, do you want me to help you get revenge and teach them a lesson?" He gestured toward Divine Hand and Evil Bird with his eyes.
I was about to nod in agreement but then remembered that since those people dared to come here, they probably had some skills. If anything happened to Dabao, I wouldn't be able to wash away my guilt even if I jumped into the Yellow River. So I shook my head and said with difficulty, "Maybe not. I don't want to alert the enemy. Besides, they're not ordinary characters. If they discover you..."
"Don't worry; they can't see me!" Dabao smiled brightly. Before I could react, he had already slipped in front of a man who was standing off to the side. I didn't know what he did, but that poor man screamed about ghosts and then scrambled away toward the fire pit, helplessly pointing at the trees while fearfully saying, "Ghost... ghost... Boss, there's a ghost!"
It seems that ghosts have always been a source of fear for people. Despite their cold and serious appearances, it was amusing to see this comical side of them. Watching their sudden alertness made me feel quite good; I couldn't help but smirk and mockingly say, "I didn't expect a bunch of big guys like you would be afraid of ghosts. Where is it? Do you want me to help chase it away? Hahaha..." After saying that, I sat there laughing uncontrollably.
Evil Bird gave me a strange look; he seemed not to believe that I could remain so calm. He stepped closer and grabbed me roughly, glaring as he asked, "Are you the one behind this?"
I shot him a mocking glance and replied, "You really overestimate me! How could someone as weak as me possibly summon a ghost to scare you?" While saying this, I couldn't help but chuckle inside. Everyone fears ghosts; I'm no exception—otherwise, I wouldn't have been scared out of my wits yesterday. But this time, knowing that the ghost was actually my good friend Dabao, made it impossible for me to feel scared.
In the brief moment while I was talking with Evil Bird, several more people let out terrified screams...
