Although the blood had already dried up, it was clear that it hadn't been long since it was shed, and I had a strong feeling that this blood might be related to lemons.
Kong Guayan stood up after a moment, quickly tying the rope to a tree. He instructed me to stay put and then ran back along the path of the rope. To be honest, I was reluctant to stay alone in this desolate place because it felt oppressive, and I had a very unsettling feeling. I couldn't pinpoint where this strange sensation came from; just looking at the blood was somewhat glaring.
Before long, the group from Divine Hand arrived. I glanced over and noticed that White Two and Ouyang hadn't returned, and one person was missing from the team. It seemed they were waiting for White Two and the others.
Without saying a word, Divine Hand followed Kong Guayan to the pool of blood. I saw Divine Hand crouch down to take a look and then uttered a jaw-dropping statement: "This is not human blood."
"What kind of blood is it then?" Before I could speak, Evil Bird asked in surprise. His tone clearly lacked the fear that Consciousness had shown; instead, he seemed eager to find out more.
Divine Hand ignored him and calmly said they would set up camp there before sitting down under a tree to rest. It seemed like there would be some action today. Evil Bird didn't mind Divine Hand's attitude; perhaps he had grown accustomed to it by now. He squatted by the pool of blood, tilting his head left and right as if trying to figure something out. After seemingly finding nothing, he walked over to me.
Seeing his bright, sharp gaze made me feel like trouble was coming. Sure enough, he stared at me without blinking and remained silent. I felt uncomfortable under his scrutiny and asked, "What are you looking at? I'm not your type."
Evil Bird's expression turned sour as if he had eaten a fly. He disdainfully shouted at me, "I'm not your type either!" Without waiting for my response, Evil Bird quickly regained his composure and asked warily, "You haven't done anything suspicious, have you?"
"What could I possibly do?" I rolled my eyes at him. Although I was the only one left here at that moment and knew they didn't trust me, honestly, I hadn't thought of doing anything suspicious. After all, if they couldn't find any clues, it would be troublesome for me too. But seeing that Evil Bird still looked skeptical, I sighed and said sincerely, "What benefit would it bring me to act suspiciously? Don't forget that my life is still in your hands! Besides, if you can't find your destination, that's also a problem for me. Let's take it a step further: if I really had any clues, could I survive here alone?"
Evil Bird thought for a moment; perhaps realizing I had a point made him relax his initial wariness. He sat down next to me and said, "True, although I know you're hiding something deep down, you probably won't cause much trouble!"
It turned out to be a huge misunderstanding. Ever since our last fight when he acted impulsively, this birdman had assumed I was hiding something and kept an eye on me as if afraid I'd stab him in the back. The truth is that I'm completely powerless; not only have I never practiced martial arts or anything like that, but my physical performance has always been mediocre—neither good nor bad. However, I wasn't going to explain this to him because right now I needed to increase my leverage; I couldn't let them think I would be a liability or it would genuinely put me at a disadvantage!
I have to say that this group of people is quite efficient; it didn't take long for the tent to be set up. Not only that, but some were scouting while others were keeping watch. I was just sitting by, dozing off, and although I had no idea what would happen next, I had a feeling that tonight wouldn't be peaceful. So, I decided to trust my instincts and conserve my energy.
As the sun gradually set in the west, the autumn weather was cool, but in this dense forest, it felt even colder. I was almost frozen awake. When I opened my eyes, there were only a few people left around me. Divine Hand and Evil Bird were surprisingly not here. Could something have happened? I immediately stood up and asked what was going on. They didn't deliberately hide anything from me; they just said they had discovered some clues and that Divine Hand had gone with them.
Although I was afraid of getting lost, once I knew the general direction, I hurried over. After all, it was curiosity getting the better of me. Just when I thought I might actually get lost, I finally heard voices nearby. I rushed over and indeed saw Divine Hand and the others, so I excitedly asked, "I heard you found some clues?"
No one responded to me at first; eventually, it was Evil Bird who glanced at me when he sensed the atmosphere was off and said, "You got here quickly."
If it were any other time, I would have retorted back at him a bit, but this clearly wasn't the right moment. Their faces all looked grim, and the atmosphere was heavy with tension. Could something really have happened? I suppressed my urge to ask questions and began looking around for any clues. However, after scanning the area, all I saw were trees and people; nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Just then, someone came running from a distance, panting as they said, "Divine Hand, Ocean is missing!"
"What happened?" Divine Hand asked in a low voice.
The person hesitated for a moment before gritting their teeth and saying, "I stepped out for a moment, and when I turned around, Ocean was gone..."
"Divine Hand, should we go back?" someone asked fearfully.
From that person's expression, it seemed that wherever Ocean had been must be very dangerous. I looked at Divine Hand, as he was in charge here. Although he appeared calm, his face didn't look good. He stood up and walked forward without looking back while saying, "Let's go take a look."
The others seemed somewhat reluctant but ultimately did not defy Divine Hand's words. Following White Two, Evil Bird, Kong Guayan, and others as they left one after another, I nervously followed closely behind them.
From their reactions and actions, I could roughly guess what had happened earlier. It seemed that while I was asleep, they had already found some clues. However, that place was quite dangerous, so they left two people behind to keep watch while the others retreated to figure things out. For some reason, one of them suddenly encountered an accident; thus even if they didn't want to go now, they had no choice but to do so.
But what kind of place could make Divine Hand so concerned? I stayed close behind them until they stopped after a short while. As I moved forward, even though it was getting darker now, it wasn't pitch black yet; so I could see clearly what lay ahead of them.
In a somewhat desolate forest, there were two trees that stood out. They weren't truly unique, as the only distinguishing feature was that both had holes in them. The holes were not large, roughly the size of three human heads. Strangely, the edges of the holes were uneven, and although there were no traces of blood, it looked as if someone had clawed them open with their fingers. The pitch-black openings seemed to lead to another world and exuded an eerie chill. Even from a distance, I couldn't help but shiver.
"What about these tree holes?" I couldn't help but ask.
Just after I finished speaking, a calm voice whispered in my ear, "Corpse Cave."
