The Grave Pit is vast, incredibly vast, with green phosphorescence covering the corpses as far as the eye can see. I rested my chin on my hands, quietly watching several shadows slowly move toward the center. My injuries were too severe, so I could only stay in place to recuperate.
Looking around, all I could see was endless darkness and the eerie glow of the phosphorescence. Dabao was nowhere to be found... Had he left? Or perhaps... he was right beside me, but I couldn't see him...
A sense of inexplicable restlessness filled my heart, yet there was no fear. Maybe the effects of the medicine Xianxian gave me were still working; I felt my body gradually regaining its vitality. So, I picked up my flat backpack and began to walk step by step along the edge of the Trench. In the past, I would never have imagined that I could walk so calmly among piles of corpses, at least not this quickly.
After walking for a while, I realized that I had unknowingly reached the Passageway where I initially entered. In the corner of the Passageway, some weeds were growing. I couldn't tell if it was due to the lack of light or being underground, but the grass was very dark and deep in color... Aside from its color, everything looked quite ordinary, yet there was an unsettling feeling everywhere!
"Ah... ah...!!"
Suddenly, several screams came from my right. I immediately turned to look and was shocked to see an incredible sight! Over there, Divine Hand and others were actually floating! No, they were suspended in mid-air at odd angles, some heads up and some heads down, and they were all struggling!
What was happening!?
Without thinking much, I ran over and jumped into the pit full of corpses, running forward without looking back. With each quick step, various strange sounds erupted around me—perhaps the sound of bones breaking or flesh squelching underfoot. Strangely enough, I felt no fear; the only emotion was guilt. To all you brothers and sisters, uncles and aunts out there, I truly didn't want to step on you, but you were lying there with no other option for me...
As I ran, I kept my eyes on those suspended figures in mid-air. Their movements and postures suggested they were bound by something, yet I couldn't see anything else; it was truly bizarre!
Just as I thought this, I stumbled and fell into a pit. My face was instantly splattered with a foul-smelling liquid. Thankfully, my mouth was tightly shut; otherwise, if it had gotten in my mouth, it would have made me sick!
"Hiss... hiss..." Before I could get up, a series of faint scratching sounds suddenly reached my ears. The noise was very soft; if one didn't listen closely, it would be nearly impossible to detect. I quickly scrambled up from the corpses and nervously looked around. The light seemed normal, and the corpses weren't moving—what could that sound be?
"Bang bang bang..." The gunfire rang out like rain, dense and chaotic. I turned around and saw that at some point, Divine Hand and the others had started shooting wildly. It was indeed wild shooting, as they had no fixed direction and seemed to be shooting at nothing! This was getting more and more bizarre!
Ignoring the faint sounds of friction, I wiped my face. Although the liquid was gone, the strong smell of decay lingered, impossible to erase. Reluctantly, I continued running towards Divine Hand and the others, my face still reeking of death.
As I got closer, my surprise grew. It was one thing for Evil Bird and White Two to be there, but Divine Hand and Kong Guayan were actually hanging in mid-air! What on earth was going on!?
"What happened?" I shouted loudly as I approached them, now only a few dozen meters away.
Divine Hand glanced at me and suddenly pointed his gun at me, shouting, "Don't come any closer!"
"What?" I stopped in disbelief, but due to inertia, I took a few more steps forward. Suddenly, a gunshot rang out. I watched helplessly as the gun barrel aimed at me. Oh no! I thought I was about to get shot! Yet, contrary to my expectations, there was no pain. The gun was clearly aimed at me; with Divine Hand's marksmanship, he would definitely hit me!
"What are you all... oh! Gad!" Just as I took a step forward, something tightened around my ankle, and I flew upwards to the right. Suddenly, the scene changed before my eyes; a large tree appeared out of nowhere!
During my flight, I clearly saw the shape of the tree. Its trunk was not straight but twisted and crooked, even the treetop was bent! The upper part was pitch black, and beneath it hung several corpses. Due to Divine Hand and the others' fierce resistance, the bodies swayed back and forth.
Not only that, but the Vine was also moving! The group of Divine Hand was entangled by the Vine, and looking up, I realized that my own ankle was wrapped in a vine as thick as my wrist.
Could it be that Divine Hand wasn't aiming at me earlier but rather at the Vine that I couldn't see at that moment? Although I didn't understand how this tree worked, it was undoubtedly strange; it couldn't be seen from a distance!
In just a few breaths, I found myself hanging beside them. My left foot was suspended, blood rushed to my head, and I had no weapons left on me; even my only dagger was missing. The only thing I could pull out was my flashlight for emergencies.
Speaking of which, thankfully I took out my flashlight in time. Just as I pulled it out, a black unidentified object suddenly flew towards me from ahead at high speed. It darted right in front of me. I swung my flashlight hard; the Vine was knocked aside. But in the next moment, that Vine lunged at me again. I swung once more and felt a jolt in my hand; the Vine had wrapped around my flashlight.
I pulled hard but couldn't get it out. Suddenly, I caught sight of a pair of blood-red eyes! The Vine revealed two sharp fangs, and a forked tongue extended from them!
Gad! Does the Vine have eyes, fangs, and a tongue? No, damn it, this isn't the Vine; it's clearly a snake! Could it be that the true form of these Vines is actually snakes?
Looking at the glowing red eyes in front of me, cold and merciless, I felt a surge of panic. Just as I was thinking about how to deal with this snake, it moved, targeting my hand! As those two white fangs were about to bite down on me, I instinctively hunched over and kicked at the snake's body. In that critical moment, the snake's eyes suddenly widened and it stopped right next to my hand. Seeing this, I quickly kicked again and swung my flashlight; after two swings, I managed to throw the snake off.
I absolutely could not drop the flashlight; it was the only weapon I had at the moment. So just now, my subconscious had already made a choice between my hand and the flashlight. Fortunately, I acted quickly; otherwise, being bitten by the snake would have serious consequences!
I no longer questioned why my skills had improved so much. Since another person was already residing within me, having one more strange aspect didn't matter. Within a few breaths, several black Vines—no, several snakes—attacked me again, but I smashed their heads with the flashlight!
Just as another one lunged at me from ahead, I immediately swung the flashlight to strike. At that moment, a gust of wind suddenly rushed in from my right side. Out of the corner of my eye, I vaguely saw another long black snake as thick as my wrist coming at me—I didn't have time! It was about to bite!
With a loud bang, that snake's head exploded just a fist's distance from my right ear while I also smashed the snake in front of me. Turning my head, I saw Divine Hand revealing a meaningful smile before turning away to continue shooting at other snakes...
Speaking of which, they say that eyes are the windows to the soul, but Divine Hand always wore those black Sniper Goggles, so I couldn't see through his thoughts or guess what he was thinking. However, that strange smile at the corner of his mouth just now felt quite unsettling...
