I stared unblinkingly at the man in the tree. He had long hair, with the top standing high while the rest fell over his shoulders and behind him. His ancient attire gradually became clearer and more real, shifting from a hazy form to a distinct figure.
From the moment I saw his features, I was completely at a loss for words. My initial fear transformed into confusion. At first, I thought he was a living person, but moments later, I realized that the person inside had long been dead... he was a corpse.
But why did this face look exactly like Lime's!!!
The same eyes, the same nose, the same mouth, the same features and build; the only differences were in hairstyle and clothing. In that instant, I truly believed I had seen Lemon! Although it looked incredibly lifelike, almost as if it had been carved from the same mold, I knew this was not Lemon—at least not the Lemon I had known. Lemon wouldn’t die; at least he wouldn’t die here, and he certainly wouldn’t have come to this strange tree to do some cosplay before dying!
As my waist relaxed, my feet instinctively took a step back. The face that looked just like Lemon's became increasingly blurry until it completely vanished into the tree, as if what I had seen was merely an illusion that had never existed.
“What are you daydreaming about!” When I came to my senses, Evil Bird's distinctive loud voice rang in my ears.
Looking at the spot where the figure had completely disappeared, I felt an indescribable sensation in my heart. Something felt off; could that person be Lemon's ancestor? Yes, they looked so alike—it must be! But how could Lemon’s ancestor end up in that tree? And in this ancient Underworld created by the Demon Clan? Things were becoming more than I could comprehend; I definitely needed to ask Lemon about this later!
“Hey, I'm talking to you! Are you too scared to respond?” Evil Bird poked me with his gun, eyeing me suspiciously.
“Get lost; I'm thinking!” I swatted away Evil Bird's glaring gun and replied irritably. Hmph, having a gun makes him so proud; I'll definitely get one for myself when I get out of here!
“Oh ho, someone's got quite the temper!” With a swift movement, Evil Bird sent a Snake Vine flying toward me. What a creep! Seeing Evil Bird’s smug grin made me want to kick his pig face. Gripping my dagger tightly in my right hand, as the Snake Vine approached, I sidestepped and swiftly slashed upward. In just a breath's time, the Snake Vine was cut cleanly in two, with the severed part crashing against the tree.
I must admit, I was becoming increasingly addicted to my current state; it felt great to have everything under my control!
"I see there isn't much of an exit here, let's leave. You probably don't have many bullets left, and staying here is just a waste!" I said while dodging the incessant attacks from the Snake Vine, taking a moment to address Divine Hand and the others above. Deep down, I didn't want them to notice the person in the tree, simply because that person might be related to Lemon!
"Is that so?" Divine Hand faced me, a barely perceptible smile tugging at the corners of his mouth as he asked lightly, "What did you see that made you suddenly want to leave?"
"What do you mean by 'what did you see'?" Did Divine Hand notice? No, I was facing the tree at that time; there was no way he could have seen my expression. Although I admit my body was quite stiff at that moment, I hadn't said a word, so he must be trying to pry information from me! Since that's the case, I decided to play dumb. While fiddling with my dagger and cutting through the Snake Vine, I casually replied to Divine Hand, "You saw it too; these Snake Vines are endless. I really don't want to waste time here!"
Divine Hand paused for a moment, seemingly considering the truth of my words. Just when I was about to ask him what he was thinking, he unexpectedly said, "Kong Quan, go take a look."
Kong Quan acknowledged and casually glanced over my face. I immediately felt uneasy as Kong Guayan walked toward where I had been tied up before, getting closer and closer. Just as his face was about to get too close for comfort, I couldn't help but shout out loud. Sure enough, all eyes turned toward me, including Kong Guayan's.
I felt embarrassed; how could I smooth this over now? Divine Hand and the others must think I'm even more suspicious now. The secret would be exposed—what should I do!? What should I do!?
Suddenly, a cold sensation came from my feet. Looking down, I was startled to see a hand reaching up from the ground. Just as I was about to stomp down hard on it, the hand moved faster than I did. At that very moment when I lifted my foot, my whole body suddenly sank downwards. In the last instant, I reflexively looked up at Divine Hand and the others with their suddenly alert and incredulous expressions before being pulled down!
The entire process took no more than two or three seconds; I was dragged down alive! It felt like a heavy fall. Before I could get back up, someone tightly covered my mouth and began dragging me backward.
"Don't move; it's me." Just as I was about to resist, a familiar voice reached my ears. Instantly, I stopped moving and allowed myself to be dragged away to another location. Strangely enough, this place wasn't completely shrouded in darkness; above... above! Everything above could be seen clearly!
Divine Hand had already jumped down from mid-air and was now crouching with Kong Guayan at the spot where I fell, examining it. Evil Bird acted as a target, preventing the Snake Vine from interfering with them. Although I couldn't hear their voices, their expressions and movements were completely clear; it was as if the corpses above were transparent. It seemed that if one reached out a hand, they could pull those above down.
Yes, in that moment of panic, I hadn't thought clearly. Now that I've relaxed a bit, the hand that grabbed me earlier was clearly a living big white hand! With distinct joints and rounded strength—it was hard to associate it with Ghost Hand.
"Shh, there's something here," he whispered in my ear after releasing my mouth.
I nodded and turned to look at him. He had a handsome short haircut, bright phoenix eyes, and a smile that seemed to be half-smiling, half-serious. Although his clothes were a bit disheveled, he still appeared spirited overall. Even though I had mentally prepared myself upon hearing his voice, I couldn't help but feel surprised when I saw him and quietly asked, "What are you doing here?"
Xianxian smiled mischievously and said, "I came to find you."
"Be clear!" I glared at him and questioned.
"Alright," Xianxian raised his hands and said softly, "I couldn't stop worrying about you, so I came back to find you. I didn't expect to run into some traps and ended up here for no reason. Just as I was hiding from that thing, I happened to see a shadow above, so I came over to take a look and found you. So, you know what happens next."
Although Xianxian spoke lightly, I knew the traps he encountered must have been serious. Looking around, it seemed there was no one else besides Xianxian. After a moment of silence, I still asked, "Where are your people?"
"Them?" Xianxian paused for a moment, scratched his nose, and smiled. "They had other things to do, so I let them go first."
Let them go first? I looked at Xianxian with suspicion. He was their leader; how could they act independently without him?
"Let's not talk about that now; this place isn't safe. We need to leave!" Xianxian pulled me and started walking ahead. Although I doubted his words about his subordinates possibly having 'betrayed' him, I knew this wasn't the time to discuss it. Moreover, Divine Hand was not an ordinary group; they might soon discover that secret or find their way down here. So it was better to leave first. Besides, there were some matters I wanted to discuss with Xianxian.
