As I entered the Death Gate, I felt a chill breeze sweep past me. I couldn't tell if it was because I was underdressed or if there was truly a ghostly wind, but goosebumps rose all over my body.
Aside from the yellow, green, and red glow sticks, nothing was visible. The surrounding area was eerily silent; if it weren't for the faint sound of breathing, I would have thought I was lost in an illusion again!
After about five minutes of walking, Lime suddenly halted. Until that moment, everything had been uneventful, but when Lime stopped abruptly, my heart raced with apprehension. I asked cautiously, "What's wrong?"
"What happened?" Xianxian quickly walked up beside me, her voice devoid of fear but filled with alertness.
Lime did not respond. After a faint rustling sound, light appeared before us, growing from dim to bright. I looked over and saw that Lime was holding a Wolf Eye Flashlight and shining it ahead. However, the darkness ahead loomed like a ravenous beast, and the chilling atmosphere made us gasp in fear. Faced with the terror of the darkness and the stone door that had long since closed behind us, we had no choice but to grit our teeth and stumble forward.
I lost track of time as we walked. Suddenly, a massive black figure appeared before us. It was so cold, standing like a slumbering primordial beast. I strained to see its full form, but it was swallowed by darkness. Xianxian asked in confusion, "What on earth is that? It's so strange." At that moment, we suddenly heard several booming sounds, like explosions, as if the entire space were about to collapse...
Could it be Divine Hand? Just as I thought this, Xianxian exclaimed, "Look! That thing is moving!"
Lime quickly directed the flashlight toward the enormous object that was slowly shifting. I inhaled sharply; the black stone exuded an ancient aura as if recounting tales of bygone eras.
It was a bridge! This thought crossed all our minds; it was so vast that it seemed to lead to both hell and heaven. The rumbling continued unabated, and I felt vibrations beneath my feet. As we walked along the beam of light, we struggled to maintain our balance against the tremors until we gradually approached this awe-inspiring bridge.
"What the hell is that?" Xianxian shouted as she pointed at some dark shadows.
"It's chains! Get down!" Lime warned us while quickly dropping to the ground. In an instant, shadows surged toward us with fierce momentum. I realized then that this was a deadly trap!
At this critical moment, I tripped over something under my feet and suddenly fell uncontrollably into the bottomless abyss. As I fell, I tried my best to curl up to maintain my balance. "Thud—" Everything went dark in front of me, and my body landed on something soft. Confused, I felt around and suddenly touched a hard object that was round with two holes.
At that moment, Xianxian's voice called out to me, and I shouted back, "I'm down here, I'm fine." As I spoke, light shone down on me, and I finally saw what I was holding—it was a skull! I quickly threw the skull away and muttered, "Damn, that's really unlucky."
By this time, Xianxian and Lime had jumped down as well. I stood up, and the light from the Wolf Eye Flashlight was very bright, allowing me to clearly see the scene that had been shrouded in darkness. I could almost feel my heart pounding violently; this was no longer a realm filled with corpses and skeletons. Just a few meters away from us lay a glimmering expanse of cold, sharp blades!
Lime didn't say anything, but Xianxian gave me a thumbs up and praised, "Fengfeng, you have such good luck!"
Yes! My luck was indeed very good! The place I fell into was piled high with corpses or skulls, and just two or three meters around me was an endless Sword Mountain! Each blade was about half a meter long, with tips that were either red or black. Human skulls and corpses were scattered everywhere, all skewered together like kebabs!
One can only imagine how many bodies lay beneath us! If I had fallen anywhere else, the outcome would have been unimaginable. Just thinking about that moment sends chills down my spine. After overcoming so many difficulties, if I had been pierced by a sword here, I would have instantly risen as a corpse!
"Did you see it from above? Why did you jump down?" I suddenly asked them. I remembered that Xianxian should have ropes in her bag; it would be better to pull me up than to fall onto this deadly Sword Mountain!
Xianxian shrugged and glanced at Lime nonchalantly, saying, "He jumped down so I followed him; I didn't want you to be scared!"
Hearing Xianxian's explanation made me shake my head and smile helplessly. It was Lime who seriously said, "We couldn't get past the traps above."
Could we not get past? If it were just Lime alone, he could definitely make it through, right? Looking at his calm eyes, I felt like I was holding everyone back again...
Shaking off the negative emotions in my heart, I glanced around at the scene—Sword Mountain everywhere—so dense that it was impossible to pass through. It was already a stroke of luck to land safely on this pile of corpses resembling a small hill; there could be no more room for any hope of luck because that is what the weak do! Calming my mind, I asked calmly, "So how do we get out now?"
Looking at the densely packed Sword Mountain, I instinctively refused to think further since Lime and Xianxian were here with me.
"I'll take a look..." said Xianxian as she walked back and forth, seriously observing her surroundings for any suspicious mechanisms or exits. Although I stood still, Eyeballs was also constantly scanning the area, hoping to find a way out.
"Wait." Lime instructed Xianxian to stop moving, then closed his eyes as if sensing something. Xianxian and I exchanged curious glances at Lemon. Before long, he opened his eyes and without saying a word, bent down to start clearing away the corpses and skulls beneath his feet. The skeletons were light and easy to handle, but some of the decayed bodies were tossed several meters away with ease. I watched carefully, fearing that these corpses might rise up to complain about Lemon's rudeness.
Clearly, I was overthinking it again; the corpses did not rise. However, there were no hidden blades where we had cleared the area! This meant that beneath the corpses was flat ground, and there were no hidden blades above. Could it be that those who came before us jumped down here because they noticed this? But if there were no hidden blades, how did they die here? What exactly happened at that time? Looking at the number of skeletons, it seemed that those who jumped down or fell like me were few in number...
At first, I wanted to tell Lime not to disturb the corpses beneath him, but after seeing that there were no hidden blades below, Xianxian and I quickly joined him in clearing away the skeletons. The process was swift; soon enough, a black stone appeared before our eyes. It seemed to be Black Crystal, but perhaps due to the passage of time or the decay of the bodies, Black Crystal showed signs of cracks and damage. None of this mattered much; what was important was that after all the corpses were dealt with, the scene beneath our feet was fully revealed. Once again, I was left in shock...
