The palm was slightly cool, and the breathing beside my ear was steady. After a moment of tension, I nodded, and then Lime lowered his hand.
A beam of light suddenly flashed in; I looked and saw it was a flashlight. Then, Xianxian's half body had already crawled in. I hurried over to pull him, but suddenly my hand tightened. Xianxian let out a muffled grunt and slid back a bit. I quickly grabbed hold, but the force from behind was too strong. It looked like Xianxian was about to be pulled out when suddenly someone bumped into me.
With Lime's help, we exerted a lot of effort and finally pulled Xianxian in. I adjusted the flashlight's direction for a moment, so I clearly saw a pair of dark purple-black hands tightly gripping Xianxian's ankle! Those hands reached into the hole, and just as I was about to draw my dagger, a mass of jet black greasy long hair stretched in. I quickly held my breath and swung down with my knife, then kicked hard; that head was kicked out!
Before I could catch my breath, countless pairs of jet black oily hands suddenly reached in, their long nails dark and dirty, desperately trying to crawl inside!
The space inside was already small. I had been worried they would soon chase in, but seeing this situation made it clear that it was indeed difficult for them to crawl in. I couldn't help but feel relieved that they lacked sharp instincts. Fortunately, a group of corpses crowded at the hole, all eager to crawl in, which caused them to get stuck.
"Lime, where's your flashlight?" After letting out a sigh of relief, I asked.
"It's almost out of battery; I've turned it off for a while," Lime said tiredly while leaning against the wall.
Almost out of battery? That made sense; it had been on for so long and used high brightness, which drained power quickly.
Xianxian panted heavily while cursing, "It really feels like we ran out from a mental hospital!"
"Isn't that right? It feels like we're filming a blockbuster," I replied while picking up the flashlight again. Shining it up and down revealed that the surroundings were not dirt but rather a small tunnel built with bricks. There were numerous cracks and significant signs of damage; each brick emitted an ancient aura. This meant it was an artificially dug passageway. Although damaged, the bricks were arranged quite neatly, indicating that it wasn't hastily constructed but rather intentionally built as a secret passage.
Seeing this made me curious.
Why would they create a Bronze Door outside that is four times larger than this? Isn't that directly telling people there's a way here? Right, Lime also said this door couldn't be opened; is this giving people hope while leading them to despair? This is really bizarre! The person who built this must have had their head pinched by the door to come up with such a terrible idea. If it weren't for the corpses chasing us so fiercely from behind, we would definitely think this was a fake door and miss it entirely... Thinking about this made cold sweat creep up my back... This person truly has no sense!
"Wait, it seems like there's a place I overlooked when I crawled in. What could it be..."
As I was racking my brain, Xianxian asked in confusion, "That Bronze Door is over a meter high, right?"
I nodded slightly in agreement. Xianxian continued, "But this place is barely half a meter high!"
I was just as puzzled about that, so after Xianxian finished speaking, we both instinctively looked at Lime. Lime was fastening her sword around her waist while taking out a combination gun to assemble it, saying, "That's probably why the door won't open."
"Could there be another passage like this above?" I pointed to the ceiling and asked.
"Whether there is or not, we need to hurry up and leave," Lime said as she loaded her gun and slung it around her neck. Then she took the flashlight from my hand and crawled forward without pausing for a moment.
Glancing at the entrance, countless black hands were still desperately crawling inside. Small stones kept falling due to the commotion, and I couldn't help but worry, "They won't crawl in here, will they?"
"What are you afraid of? I'll cover you!" Xianxian teased with a laugh.
"I'm more worried about you!" I shot him a glare and said while crawling forward, "I'm afraid you'll suddenly turn into one of them, and then I'll have to show you mercy!"
"Tsk tsk, Little Phoenix, your mouth is too reckless!" Xianxian said with an unfriendly tone.
Just as I was about to respond, a faint sobbing sound echoed ominously again. I couldn't help but shiver; that sound came out of nowhere!
The three of us stopped simultaneously in the sealed narrow dark mountain path. Only a small beam of light remained; Lime was crawling in front of me and had blocked most of the light. Aside from our breathing sounds, there was the sound of a woman's weeping—haunting and sorrowful, it resonated deep within our hearts. Instinctively, I searched for the source of the sound. However, no matter how I listened or looked around—up or down—there were only broken bricks; not even a Shadow of a Ghost could be seen. Yet that mournful crying seemed to be right beside me, so close it made my scalp tingle.
I thought to myself that at least I had The Dead with me. If you dare to scare me, then don't let me see you; otherwise... otherwise, I'll send you off!
"Haunted again?" Xianxian suddenly said.
"Let's leave first," Lime said, continuing to crawl forward.
The sound of weeping lingered like a shadow, trembling in the darkness like abandoned fluff, unable to find an exit, despairingly wandering aimlessly.
The bricks were icy cold, transmitting chills through my palms and into my body, as if I had fallen into an ice cellar. Suddenly, a sharp scream pierced the air—it was a woman's scream! It seemed to come from the depths of hell, the echo filled with pain and collapse! Caught off guard, I felt a chill run down my spine! I didn't know if Lime and Xianxian were startled by that sudden scream, but I was indeed shocked; when I came to my senses, I realized I was gripping my dagger tightly!
"Damn it, that sound is too terrifying!" Xianxian said from behind, still shaken.
Lime clicked his tongue and after a long pause said, "Just playing tricks."
Unknown eerie events are always the most unsettling. Coupled with the extremely low temperature here, I felt cold all over. However, neither of them seemed to be dressed warmly; they rubbed their hands together and continued crawling forward. I couldn't help but wonder how much longer it would be until we saw an exit!
Time passed second by second. My legs felt numb, aching and painful, and my stomach growled fiercely—I truly felt like I was about to collapse!
"Grumble..."
Hearing my stomach growl, I quickly covered it up. Then I thought, that didn't seem to be my stomach. Just then, I heard Xianxian lamenting from behind, "Why haven't we reached the end? I'm starving!" After that, there was a faint sound from behind, followed by silence. When I turned around, I saw Xianxian sitting on the ground, leaning against the wall and panting. The space was so cramped that Xianxian was lying very low; her knees were almost at the same height as her head.
In fact, I was already exhausted as well. Seeing Xianxian stop made me lazy; I turned to the side and plopped down on the ground, lazily asking, "Is there any food left?"
