Before I could even ask, Black Ball confessed on its own. It said it was sleeping here and wanted to scare us away when it heard some noise. As for the exit, it forgot...
"Alright, you’re of no use for now." With that, I threw Little Black Ball into The Dead, while the three of us continued our arduous journey.
Without Black Ball's ghostly wails, the surroundings fell silent to the point where you could hear a pin drop. After crawling for a long time, all I could see were cracked bricks—just bricks. My knees were sore from scraping against the cold, hard ground. It was fine for a moment, but damn it, we had been stopping and going for over an hour now, and aside from Ghost Woman, we had found nothing!
My head felt a bit dizzy, my eyes were sore and bloodshot; I was both tired and unable to sleep—it was unbearable! Lime was still crawling ahead of me while I followed behind step by step. A few times I almost collapsed from exhaustion, feeling like my vision was getting darker and my eyelids heavier...
Why is it so cold? I frowned and opened my eyes, only to find complete darkness before me; I couldn't see anything or hear anything...
I rolled over and sat up abruptly. When my hands touched the ground, it felt icy and rough with cracks like broken floor tiles.
Where’s Lime? Where’s Xianxian? I called out to them both but received no response for a long time... The sound seemed to be swallowed by the darkness; it was eerily quiet. It felt like there really wasn’t anyone around! Wait a minute, we had been crawling one after the other—how could I be the only one left?
Lime? Xianxian?
I tried calling out again but still got no reply. Now I was starting to panic. In this pitch-blackness, where was I supposed to go?
Just then, a cold wind suddenly rushed towards me, carrying a foul odor with it. I frowned and instinctively took a step back but unexpectedly touched something hard. As I felt around, it was round and long—it was a flashlight!
I felt a surge of joy and quickly picked up the flashlight. I found the switch accurately and pressed it. Suddenly... a dark purple face was illuminated right in front of me, with a pair of pitch-black eyes filled with resentment staring coldly at me without blinking...
My mind went blank in shock as I instinctively smashed the flashlight towards it and then kicked out with my foot; at that moment, my brain seemed to have lost control.
"Hey! Who the hell kicked me!?" A voice that sounded like a pig's squeal suddenly rang in my ears. Startled, I sat up only to bump my head painfully against something. However, I recognized that voice—it was Xianxian.
"Xianxian?" I called out softly.
"What’s going on?" A commotion came from ahead, followed by Xianxian cursing, "You little rascal Feng Zi, was it you who just kicked This Lord?"
"Uh, well..." I suddenly felt a bit embarrassed. Damn it, it turns out I was dreaming just now, which made me kick the wrong person. So I quickly changed the subject, "By the way, where's Lime?"
Although there was no light and everything around was pitch black, I was sure that it was just me and Xianxian here.
"Him? He must have run off by himself!" Xianxian huffed.
"Let's go check it out." Lime didn't seem like the type to sneak away without a word, so could he have gone ahead to scout? It seemed too much for one person to scout alone. With that thought in mind, I grabbed Xianxian and crawled forward in the dark.
"Bang bang bang..." A dull knocking sound suddenly echoed, sounding as if it came from far away, making one feel heavy-hearted. I listened carefully for a moment and found the sound very familiar. Suddenly, an ominous feeling washed over me. I immediately pressed myself against the brick wall and listened closely. The banging sound was irregular, resembling the noise of digging or fists pounding into the earth—very strange indeed!
"What the hell, that thing won't discover us, will it?" Xianxian suddenly said.
I was startled and remembered that when we were walking along the cliff earlier, those things had "come out" from inside the mountain. Damn it, they were on par with pangolins! If they dug their way here, wouldn’t we be trapped with no way out? This surrounding brickwork looked unreliable no matter how you examined or touched it! If they could dig through such thick soil, how could these thin bricks hold up?
"Run!" After saying that, I hurriedly crawled forward, not caring about the pain or exhaustion; Damn it, better to be injured than to lose my life!
After crawling for a while, I suddenly heard crawling sounds ahead—getting closer and closer. Just as I pulled out my knife, a beam of light appeared, followed by a figure crawling towards us. We exchanged glances and were both stunned.
The one crawling towards us was clearly Lime. As he turned around without wasting any time, he said, "They’re chasing us; we need to hurry."
"Go? Have you found an exit?" I asked Consciousness.
"No." Lime's voice remained calm despite the situation. My heart sank again when he added, "There’s something ahead." After saying that, he quickly crawled forward.
What Lime referred to as a situation was indeed serious.
"This cave...?" I stopped in front of the cave and looked at Lime with concern.
A moment ago, when we climbed here, Lime stopped, and I suddenly noticed that beside the straight passage on the right, there was a small hole that had appeared out of nowhere, slanting gently upward. Our current situation was at the intersection of a lowercase letter "r." Ahead was still a straight passage surrounded by tiles, while to the right was a slightly smaller earthen hole, its entrance cluttered with broken bricks, suggesting that something or someone had dug through.
It was just an ordinary earth hole, with edges showing signs resembling shovel marks, uneven and looking like it had been hastily excavated.
What first came to my mind was...
"It's a Tomb Hole!" Xianxian suddenly spoke up, her eyes filled with confusion and surprise.
Lime responded, saying, "I checked ahead; there’s nothing unusual. I haven't been in here yet."
"Should we go in?" I asked.
The three of us exchanged glances and silently made a bold decision: let's go this way!
This was a risky move. Now we were isolated and trapped in a secret passage within the mountain, unsure of where the exit led or where we were. What was unsettling was that there could be monsters inside the mountain that could create large holes. Now, suddenly encountering a Tomb Hole along the way raised our curiosity despite the potential dangers.
Indeed, it was a human-dug Tomb Hole! As we crawled inside, aided by the dim light, I saw that although the earthen walls were rough, they were quite even. The marks left by each shovel were very clear. However, with such a large hole, where had all the excavated dirt gone?
The person who dug this Tomb Hole must have been quite skilled!
No, wait. Since this Tomb Hole was dug by someone, does that mean we are not the first visitors?
