Returning home, the sky had darkened. From a distance, I could see that the house was pitch black. Was Lime not at home?
I hurried my pace, wondering if that little troublemaker had "run away from home" again without telling anyone. As I knocked on the door, I was startled to see someone lying in the yard. Just as I reached for my dagger, I realized that the shadow looked somewhat familiar. Upon closer inspection, it turned out to be Lime. I had no idea where he had gotten an old chair from, but at that moment, he was leisurely basking in the moonlight and stargazing.
I couldn't help but twitch my lips; he really knew how to enjoy life.
I sat down beside him, gazing at the starry sky, and my mood seemed to lighten a bit. "I met some friends today."
"Mm." Lime responded with a single syllable.
I sighed internally and continued, "They are heading to Hengshan in two days for a trip, and I promised to go with them."
Lime continued to look up at the starry sky. The soft moonlight illuminated his face but emitted a cold aura. He seemed not to belong to this world; the bustling and vibrant life around him appeared to be just a play, and he watched it with detached eyes, always an outsider. This feeling struck me again; every time I saw Lime's calm and unruffled gaze, I felt his presence was too distant and aloof, as if he had transcended through millennia and could vanish with a gust of wind, leaving behind an unreachable silhouette.
Suppressing the strange feelings within me, I thought about what had happened at the Ghost Clan Tomb and the bizarre events surrounding Lime. I couldn't calm down; it was just the two of us now—what a perfect opportunity! If not now, then when?
"Lime, Brother Lime, I know you have many secrets. For now, I won't ask about anything else. I want to know if you are acquainted with my dad?" The reason for this question was naturally due to Lime's care for me. After everything that had happened, I had long realized that Lime wouldn't easily get close to anyone; he was always alone. I didn't think there was anything about me that would attract his attention, so it was highly likely that it related to my father. As for the Cat's Eye Stone Bracelet, I doubted he would tell me anything about that either.
I stared at him without blinking, not wanting to miss any expression on his face. Sure enough, when I spoke the first half of my question, he remained unresponsive. It wasn't until I mentioned my dad that his eyelashes fluttered slightly. The moonlight was hazy, but I captured every detail of his expression.
With this exchange in mind, I felt relieved; at least Lime knew my dad!
"The ones who took my dad and killed my Uncle Second Uncle are part of the same group, right?"
Lime's Eyeballs finally moved slightly, calmly looking at me. After a long pause, he spoke, revealing a significant piece of news that left me stunned and speechless. "Being captured is just part of Feng Yuanliang's plan. As for your Uncle and Second Uncle, they should be alive."
"What did you say?!" Along with my shock, there was immense joy and confusion in my heart.
Could it be that my father orchestrated all of this? Everyone believed he was being threatened, but what if he willingly stepped into this so-called trap? "Why?" I truly couldn't understand what this was all for! Why keep such an important matter from me?
Lime sighed, hesitating to continue. "They probably didn't want to involve you..."
"Didn't want me to be involved? Hmph..." What else could I do but smile bitterly? My closest relatives had kept everything from me! I felt no joy or uniqueness; only a deep sense of anger! What you consider care is nothing but pain to me! Did anyone ever consider my thoughts and feelings? No! From the beginning to the end, what role have I played in this family? I was the only one left in the dark, the only one excluded!
"I will definitely find them and get to the bottom of this." Once I calmed down, I felt even colder inside, so cold that I didn't even want to step forward myself.
I didn't notice when Lime had stood up; backlit by the moonlight, his features were somewhat blurred. A hint of regret flashed in his jet-black eyes, mixed with pain and conflict. In the end, he said nothing and walked into the house. Watching his lonely silhouette, I suddenly felt he resembled an old man, a weary elder surrounded by a heavy atmosphere that deepened my confusion. What had Lime experienced? Clearly despondent, yet still clinging to a thread of hope...
Gazing at the starry sky, I couldn't sleep all night.
Some things had already slipped out of control; the road ahead was shrouded in uncertainty.
Was what Lime said true? Dad, what exactly are you all planning? If you're fine, why not send me a letter or a message... Should I still go looking for you?
The next day, we agreed to meet at the station.
The station was bustling with people coming and going. I rubbed my temples and quietly sat aside; my mind had been too tense these past few days, leaving me feeling drained. Well, whatever happens next, I'll just go with the flow!
"Feng Zi, you arrived so early! Were you anxious waiting?" A pair of feet stopped in front of me. I looked up to see Rophie beaming at me. Behind her were Xiao Xiao and Tong Qi, along with three familiar faces.
"I just arrived too." Standing up, I had already returned to the resilient version of myself that couldn't be easily defeated.
"Why is he here?" A light, somewhat disdainful female voice came from the side.
Then another person chimed in, "We're going hiking, not for coffee!" After that, they muttered under their breath, "Now there's an extra burden."
Well, given that my health wasn't great before and my physical performance was poor, it was normal for some people to look down on me. Especially since I didn't need everyone to like me. So when Rophie looked at me apologetically, I casually smiled and said, "Hiking sounds great; it's been a while since I've gone."
The ones mocking me were Sun Lan and Li Hui, along with Fu Song, who I wasn't familiar with. He just nodded at me, and I returned the gesture as a greeting.
The atmosphere was a bit awkward until Tongqi glanced at everyone and broke the tension by saying, "Alright, alright, we're all classmates. It's not easy to get together, so let's not cause any trouble!"
"Who’s causing trouble?!" Sun Lan pouted and shot me an annoyed glare.
I felt innocent; what had I done to deserve this?
"Hey, Feng Zi, are you sure you want to join us?" Li Hui looked at me teasingly. "Hiking is quite a physical activity; can you handle it?"
"Don't worry; I won't be worse than you." It was a joke; after all, I've been through storms and trials. My stamina was much better than before—hiking would be a piece of cake for me.
"Well, I hope you're not just boasting. Lan Lan, let's go buy tickets." With that, she linked arms with Sun Lan and headed off to queue for tickets.
Xiao Xiao still wore a mischievous smile as he patted my shoulder and said, "Don't mind them; you know Lan Lan likes muscular guys!" After saying that, he ran off, his cheerful laughter echoing from ahead. I couldn't help but twitch my mouth.
Although I might not have muscles now, I still had strength. Hopefully, they wouldn't be too surprised later on.
"Shall we go buy tickets?" Rophie blinked her big eyes and smiled helplessly.
"Yeah." I had just nodded when a crisp yet magnetic voice came from behind, cold and somewhat out of place.
I turned around to see Lime carrying a shoulder bag, still looking at me with a blank expression.
"Who is he?"
"Wow, he's handsome!"
"Really cool!"
As soon as Rophie spoke, two voices chimed in from behind—who else but Xiao Xiao and Sun Lan?
I stepped beside Lime and proudly introduced, "Let me introduce my best friend, Lime. He's a bit introverted, so please take care of him."
"He's your friend? Is he coming with us?" Xiao Xiao's expression changed instantly as she gazed at Lime with starry eyes.
Lime slightly curled his lips, revealing a faint smile. "Hello, everyone."
I suddenly felt an invisible slap on my face. Damn it, I just said he was introverted, and here he is smiling so brightly, deliberately undermining me! Seeing the others looking at me with suspicion, I could only chuckle awkwardly and pull him away. "Come on, let's go buy your ticket!"
