"Did the little brother discover something?" The old man asked curiously upon hearing this.
Xianxian smiled mysteriously, "You'll find out if you follow us. I guarantee you'll be amazed, and you probably won't be able to eat dinner tonight!"
Indeed, for those of us in this line of work, we've long been accustomed to all kinds of bloodshed. I wonder how these young police officers and the seemingly kind old man will react when they see that pool of blood. Thinking of this, I couldn't help but smile and said no more.
With Xianxian having said that, the curiosity of the people here was already piqued, and they urged him to lead the way.
I intentionally slowed my pace a few steps, waiting for some distance to form between us and the others. Only then did Rophie step forward, looking at me with concern. "Feng, what exactly did you see?"
"It's not good." After a pause, I looked at her and said, "How about I send you back? It's not good to see those unclean things." Besides, she was still a young girl; that pool of Blood Stench aside, the immense suction from the statue's mouth would be difficult to deal with.
Rophie turned pale but shook her head. "I'm fine."
"Feng Zi, with all of us here, you're only thinking about Faye. Aren't you worried we might get into trouble?" Tong Qi pretended to be dissatisfied but his eyes sparkled with teasing amusement.
Xiao Xiao chimed in with a mischievous grin: "Yeah, she's scared too! Little Phoenix, why didn't you let us prepare in advance?"
"Now that someone is thinking about her, how could she think of us!" Sun Lan shot me a glare and said mockingly.
Rophie blushed and felt a bit awkward. She quickly replied, "Don't talk nonsense! How could Feng not care about you? We've been classmates for many years."
"I spit." I laughed without a hint of embarrassment or anger. "You all pair off like this; why are you comparing it to Faye? Didn't you hear what I said? Besides, just because I say it's dangerous doesn't mean you won't go. I see each one of you; the more dangerous I say it is, the more eager you are to go see for yourselves!"
The group chuckled reluctantly and glanced at the people from Village. Seeing they hadn't heard us, Tongqi grinned and said, "Well, your mouth is quite sharp now. We can't argue with you, but can you keep your voice down? If the people from Village hear us, how can we stick around?"
I shot him a proud glance and thought to myself: Aren't you all just teaming up to tease me? Now you're scared? Huh?
Tongqi cupped his hands in respect, showing a humble expression.
I smiled and said nothing more. Then I heard Major Ma's voice ahead, "Immortal Brother, I haven't introduced you yet. This is Dr. Zhang, who is assisting us with this event."
"So it's Dr. Zhang!" Xianxian exclaimed in surprise.
"Haha." One person chuckled and quickly replied, "I'm flattered, I'm mainly responsible for archaeology. When I heard about this strange incident, I couldn't help but come over, thanks to Xiao Lian for speaking on my behalf with the director."
"Dr. Zhang is being modest. Although this isn't related to archaeology, you have done extensive research on these peculiar matters, and we will be relying on you this time!"
The group continued chatting back and forth, and since I didn't enjoy such diplomatic conversations, I chose not to join in.
However, I was somewhat surprised by their discussion; I didn't expect an archaeologist to be involved this time. It seemed they weren't clueless about the situation; there must be something strange going on. Otherwise, with today's technology, there would be no need for such measures.
"This is it." The group stopped as Xianxian busied herself with something ahead, and soon we heard a series of gasps.
Xianxian had stopped at the eerie granary I had discovered earlier. It led directly down to the forbidden area of the Three Yellow Cult. Whatever happened down there wouldn’t concern us much.
"You all stay up here; we’ll go down and jump..."
"We want to take a look too!" Xiao Xiao eagerly pulled Tongqi forward.
I glanced helplessly at the remaining people, noticing the excitement in their eyes. I sighed; how could so many people fit into such a small space? It would be quite comical if they all got stuck inside.
Shaking my head, I said to them, "Let's go take a look." With that, I stepped forward. After a few steps, I suddenly remembered that there were no ladders or anything to descend when the stone slab was opened. The granary was over three meters high—could they really jump down?
Thinking this over, I stopped and looked at them.
"What’s wrong? Are you scared?" Li Hui provocatively looked at me and laughed.
"I'm not scared; I'm just worried you might be." I intended to advise them, but since they didn’t appreciate good intentions, let them learn the hard way not to be so reckless!
Walking up to the stone bricks, Xiao Xiao and Tong Qi stood at the entrance, both showing a look of longing. I smiled lightly, then glanced at the others. After looking down, they all revealed expressions of difficulty, even Li Hui's face changed repeatedly. It was Rophie who first voiced her concern: "How... do we get down?"
"Do you want to go down?" I asked in return, smiling at Rophie.
Rophie blinked, then steeled herself and nodded.
"Alright." With that, I wrapped my arm around her shoulder and jumped down. I heard a gasp as she tightly hugged my neck. In an instant, we landed steadily on the ground, but Rophie still held onto me tightly.
"We're here." I said with a slightly awkward smile; I should have reminded her beforehand.
Rophie also felt a bit embarrassed, her cheeks flushed as she softly replied with an "Mm." The wall inside had already moved aside; they must have gone in. I intended to take Rophie directly inside, but then I remembered that aside from Fu Song who didn't come along, there were still four others up top! I looked up and saw those four staring at me intently, their gazes almost devouring me. I twitched my mouth; could it be that they wanted me to carry them down too?
"There's really nothing to see; why don't you just stay up there?" I said, forcing myself to be brave.
"Feng Zi!" Tong Qi gritted her teeth.
Seeing their persistent expressions, I had no choice but to let Rophie wait for a moment. I stepped back to the corner of the wall, just like last time, placed one foot on the wall, and leaped onto the box below before jumping up with force.
Tong Qi looked at me in disbelief for a long time before giving my shoulder a heavy pat. "Good kid! Who would have thought? Not only have you gotten stronger, but your skills have improved too!"
"I've just been practicing casually," I replied offhandedly while calling over Wang Yi and the others. "Can someone help bring my friend down? Just show a little skill; revealing too much is not only unwise but could also attract trouble! Just like keeping wealth hidden is important; sometimes concealing strength is equally crucial!"
