As the sky darkened, the moonlight remained hazy tonight, with Jet Black Cumulus clouds hanging low and the North Wind howling, suggesting that a heavy rain could come at any moment.
After spending the entire afternoon playing, I said goodbye to Tongqi and started heading back. Just as I was about to relax after leaving the courtyard, I noticed a figure in the distance. The person was hunched over, their silhouette blurred in the night, appearing so desolate and lonely. I walked slowly behind them, thinking that I should venture into the woods tonight; who knows what discoveries might await.
At that moment, the person ahead stopped. Considering they lived in the village, I thought it would be polite to greet them. So I quickened my pace, tapped their shoulder, and smiled, saying, "Hello, Fellow. Why are you still out so late..."
Before I could finish my sentence, the Fellow turned around. Their face was gaunt and withered, deep-set eyes filled with Death Qi. The skin had a purplish hue, and there seemed to be small things crawling on it, which was quite unsettling. I froze for a moment, awkwardly withdrew my hand, and said, "Uh, never mind! You carry on!" With that, I hurriedly walked away without looking back.
Damn it! I encountered a ghost right after stepping out!
Could it be that the Ghost Ring has already taken effect? I never expected it to happen so quickly; I wasn't mentally prepared for this encounter with a ghost!
There were many people on the road—no! They should be called ghosts!
There were men and women of all ages, each moving as if gliding. As they passed by me, a chill swept through the air. The worst part was that each of them stared at me intently, making me feel uneasy inside. Some looked relatively normal while others were horrifyingly grotesque. If it weren't for my current strong composure, I would have run back in fright!
Bearing the pressure all the way, I finally arrived at the Village Chief's house. After greeting the Village Chief, I made my way to the guest room and saw Xianxian lying on the bed. One arm was wrapped around Snow Princess while the other served as a pillow under their head. They were chatting and laughing together in such an intimate manner!
"Ahem!" I clenched my fist and coughed twice into it. Damn it! After being stared at by ghosts all the way home, here you are sleeping with a beauty and sharing jokes while looking so relaxed and happy!
"What's wrong? You finally decided to come back?" Xianxian turned around with a teasing look on their face, a smirk still lingering at the corner of their mouth.
I shot them a glare and sat down beside them, saying, "I can see now."
"What did you see?" Xianxian asked curiously, blinking their eyes.
I didn't answer, just stared at him and smiled.
"Don't smile so creepily!" Xianxian grumbled as she sat up, frowning.
Creepily? I continued to smile.
"Little Phoenix, what's wrong with you?" Snow Princess blinked her eyes, looking at me with confusion.
Xianxian looked at me for a moment, then suddenly opened her mouth wide, pointing at me and hesitantly said, "You can't be..."
I nodded, just as you think!
"Xian, what are you two talking about?" Snow Princess asked Xianxian.
"Feng Zi can see..." Xianxian whispered in Snow Princess's ear.
"What!"
Snow Princess was indeed shocked, her beautiful eyes widening in disbelief as she looked at me.
I chuckled lightly and smirked, "I saw quite a few on the way here."
"You..." Snow Princess looked at me for a moment, then suddenly laughed, nudging Xianxian and teasingly said, "I didn't expect your taste to always be so good; Talent Scout found a good horse!"
"Your taste is pretty good too." Xianxian proudly smiled as she tapped Snow Princess's delicate nose. "I'm the best proof!"
Hey, what do you mean by this! Shouldn't I be the one getting praised in this situation? Why are you complimenting Xianxian instead!? I feel like spitting blood; this is what they call "beauty in the eyes of the beholder"!
Shaking my head, I found the way those two were gazing at each other quite annoying, so I said, “Lime hasn’t shown up all day. I’m going out to look for her.” With that, I stood up and prepared to leave.
“Hey, wait a minute.” Xianxian called from behind, jumping off the bed and putting on a jacket. She said, “Let’s go together.”
“Of course we should go together; otherwise, what am I doing here at night?” As she spoke, Snow Princess wrapped her arms around Xianxian’s arm with a big smile on her face.
Stepping outside, I was surprised to see a few people waiting there. Frowning, I thought I might run into some ghosts right away, but upon closer inspection, they turned out to be humans!
“What took you so long to come out?” Gao Liang asked while holding a small medical kit, standing next to Wang Yi and Zhao Yang, the Glasses Man.
“Brother Feng.” Wang Yi ran over to greet me with a flattering tone and then called out to the two behind him. Xianxian yelled a few times, dissatisfied that Wang Yi called me first instead of her. Wang Yi didn’t argue and just smiled foolishly.
Knowing they were just playing around, I didn’t bother with them. I simply said “let’s go” and led the way.
On this Moonless Night with Strong Wind, aside from our group of Six People, there were fewer drifting spirits than before on the road. Now that there were more people around, I ignored their gazes and headed straight into the forest on the back mountain.
What? You’re asking why I don’t collect these ghosts?
It’s not that I’m picky; it’s just that I don’t collect every ghost I see. Those wandering souls in Ghost Town linger here to fulfill their wishes before leaving. What I want are not these clueless villagers but rather clever ghosts who are bold! Obedient! It would be best if they had a special skill too! Better to have fewer but higher quality ones; only then can we escape many disasters in the future and get help at critical moments.
I’m not a Sage, and I have my own emotions and desires, so I can’t collect every ghost from Ghost Town.
The Six Paths of Reincarnation have their own rules. Why should I interfere more…
As for Zhou Juechen, he is still lying in a corner of The Dead. It's not that I don't want to give him a proper burial; it's just that I can't find a place more suitable than The Dead. And that Ghost Woman, well, let her wail in there for now. As long as I don't want to listen, I can easily block out any noise.
Tonight, I'm going to search for the so-called Ghost Valley. Not only to unravel the mystery of the villagers' deaths but also to catch a glimpse of that Mountain Ghost. I want to see what kind of Mountain Ghost is so arrogant and domineering. If it can be captured, then capture it; if not, then kill it. Since I'm here, I must make this trip worthwhile.
As for Lime's whereabouts, I think I can guess.
"Where exactly is Ghost Valley?" Wang Yi asked.
"Who knows? It's somewhere in these mountains; we just have to look slowly," said Glasses Man.
"Searching like a headless chicken isn't going to work. Fengfeng, ask for directions," Xianxian commanded me without hesitation.
I rolled my eyes secretly and replied irritably, "Ask who? There's not a soul around."
"Ask... ask who?" Hearing a gulp, Wang Yi asked in confusion.
Snow Princess chuckled lightly, "I haven't told you yet, but that Little Phoenix is quite impressive now."
"Impressive? What’s so impressive about being able to see ghosts? That's nothing special; I'm also top-notch!" Xianxian said dismissively, though her tone couldn't hide her excitement and joy.
"Xian, didn't you just tell me that Little Phoenix can not only see ghosts but also control them?" Snow Princess couldn't help but tease.
