"Find a good hiding spot, Fu Song, stay back and take care of them!"
After the three were rescued, Lime dashed out, and I quickly left after saying a few words.
Sure enough, it wasn't long before another wave of suction followed, stronger and more powerful than the last time. Even though I was tightly holding onto a branch, my body was still being pulled away.
Three modified Thunderclaps, one for each of us: Lime, Xianxian, and me. As for the extra figure that appeared, I couldn't help but furrow my brow. Why did this person come here too?
"Officer Ma, why aren't you protecting the civilians? What are you doing here?" Xianxian shouted while holding onto the branch.
"I'm here to help you!"
Although his voice was somewhat muffled due to the suction, I still heard him. While he meant well, it made me feel uncomfortable. With him around, not only could I not use some of my methods, but I also had to be careful with my words.
"Fengfeng, do you know how much this Old Tortoise can suck?" Xianxian suddenly yelled at me.
Huh? I glanced at him and immediately understood what he meant from the look in his eyes. So I shouted back, "I already knew! What do you suggest?" The implication was that although I had The Dead at my disposal, it couldn't handle this Old Tortoise! When I faced the Mountain Ghost last time, I had secretly tried to collect it, but no matter how I thought about it or used my will, that creature just wouldn't respond!
It seemed that The Dead could only collect souls without bodies, like ghosts or similar entities. Furthermore, it could only collect lifeless things! This meant that when we eventually entered ancient tombs, those Zongzi or Blood Corpses would still be beyond my reach; I'd have to either kill them or avoid them.
Xianxian clicked his tongue in disappointment. "Just like last time; let's try using the new stuff!" He meant using Thunderclap.
I nodded. Since this Mountain Ghost wanted to suck something so badly, let it have another go at Thunderclap and taste the bomb's flavor!
However, are you sure you won't get caught for using a bomb in front of the police?
As soon as the suction weakened, Lime jumped down from the tree, grabbing the ancient sword and running away.
"Chase!" Major Ma also jumped down from the tree, shouting as he ran.
Without him saying anything, we naturally kept running forward without pause because I sensed that the Mountain Ghost's power was increasing again, although its breath was unstable, likely taking a shortcut.
Sure enough, when I saw that massive creature, even though I was mentally prepared, I was still taken aback.
Under the giant Mountain Ghost's feet lay numerous corpses sprawled in all directions! Without exception, these people had been drained of their blood and essence, turning into shriveled blackened corpses! The Mountain Ghost was holding one person up to its mouth and sucking... Its two lantern-sized blood-red eyes were glaring at us fiercely! It was filled with danger.
Didn’t they say only a few people had been taken? I looked at Major Ma in confusion; there were over twenty people lying here! Major Ma also had a look of surprise on his face, clearly unaware of this situation.
I was puzzled. Could it be that these weren’t villagers? Suddenly, a thought struck me—could these be members of the Three Yellow Cult? Otherwise, how could they all have died together? It seemed like they hadn’t even struggled…
Regardless of whether they were villagers or remnants of the Three Yellow Cult, they were dead. What was the point of dwelling on that? Our main target was singular—Mountain Ghost!
The last person was violently thrown by the Mountain Ghost towards Lime, followed by a deafening roar that pierced the air. I tightly covered my ears, but despite that, warm liquid still flowed through my fingers.
My head felt like it was about to explode; they say a roar can shake the heavens, and this Mountain Ghost’s roar certainly made my head ache! Out of the corner of my eye, I saw several others covering their ears as well, red liquid trickling between their fingers! My ears must be bleeding too! I wondered if there would be any lasting effects or if I would end up with tinnitus.
Lost in thought, suddenly something unbelievable happened! My eyes widened in shock as my heart raced. What did I just see? I could hardly believe my eyes; the blood on those people's hands was slowly disappearing! No, it was as if droplets of blood were flying into the Mountain Ghost's mouth!
Now I understood why all the villagers' blood was gone; it turned out this old monster extracted blood this way!
No way, I absolutely couldn’t let it succeed!
It was clear that I wasn't the only one who noticed this. A black object, known as Thunderclap, fell from Xianxian's hand and flew towards Mountain Ghost's mouth.
Suddenly, after a roar, Thunderclap dropped from less than a meter in front of Mountain Ghost. Damn it, this old monster actually learned to be cautious! Knowing that Thunderclap was difficult to deal with, it chose not to absorb it? How infuriating!
Not only that, but just as I was feeling unwilling, Mountain Ghost waved its hand, sending Thunderclap flying towards us...
Cursing under my breath, we quickly scattered to the sides to avoid it.
This modified Thunderclap was undoubtedly powerful. With a loud explosion, a strong and terrifying wave of heat surged towards my back. I felt a sharp pain and lost my footing, crashing heavily to the ground!
The tough-skinned monster was hard to deal with; not only was it thick-skinned and massive, but it also had intelligence, making it even more formidable!
And this Mountain Ghost was clearly one of the best among them!
Its wounds could heal automatically, and it could absorb energy from people's essence and blood. Its skin was so thick that even bullets couldn't penetrate it—truly a tricky opponent!
With a sword in hand, I ignored the pain in my back and the buzzing in my head as Lime, Xianxian, and Major Ma got up one after another.
Mountain Ghost let out an angry roar, its eyes flashing red as if it were contemplating something. Suddenly, it turned its head and looked at me.
I was startled; its gaze sent chills down my spine. It felt as if it could see deep into my soul! Did it discover something? No, unless I were dead, how could it possibly see my soul!?
It wasn't that I was overthinking; my soul was rather unique, which led me to make such associations.
"Fengfeng, does that Mountain Ghost have its eyes on you?" Xianxian suddenly teased.
My scalp tingled, and I cursed, "Keep talking nonsense, and I'll beat you up!"
The more I thought about it, the more horrifying it became. The Mountain Ghost stood there, coldly staring at me without launching an attack. Suddenly, Lime leaped and swung his sword, and blood sprayed out like a fountain. The Mountain Ghost let out a terrible scream, filled with both anger and despair, a chilling sound!
Almost at the moment the blood gushed out, the Mountain Ghost disregarded its injuries and lifted its thick leg to sweep at Lime. However, Lime was no pushover; he had already retreated after landing his hit. So even though the Mountain Ghost reacted quickly, it was still slowed down by its injuries and ended up kicking nothing but air, which only made it more frantic!
At that moment, a scream suddenly came from not far away.
I was startled and turned to look, feeling a surge of anger as those few people ran over again. I coldly glared at Fu Song, who looked regretful and filled with helplessness and self-blame.
Seeing him like this calmed my anger somewhat.
Looking at that group of troublemakers, my head hurt even more than when the Mountain Ghost was roaring.
I said, do you even know what danger means? I told you not to come here, yet you recklessly rushed over, seeking death without dragging everyone else down with you!
A gust of wind rushed past my ear. Just as I turned back, I felt a heavy blow to my abdomen. By the time I regained my senses, I had already fallen heavily to the side, while the Mountain Ghost had run over to Li Hui and the others. It seemed that the Mountain Ghost was not foolish; it knew to target the softest targets first!
"Wow..." I spat out blood and casually wiped my mouth with my sleeve before getting up from the ground. Ignoring the soreness all over my body, I hurried towards them because those few people were already being lifted up...
I sighed deeply; this really was a headache...
