"Take your time!" Seeing that my words had no effect, and they continued to fight fiercely, I could only helplessly roll my eyes.
Looking over at the few college students who were scared stiff, I was at a loss for words. Then I glanced at that group of people, who usually appeared gentle and quiet; now they were acting like brutes, fighting with a ferocity that was astonishing!
"Aren't you going to break it up?" I asked Lime, who was leaning against the wall.
Lime casually glanced at them and replied, "No."
Well, I couldn't count on this guy. Clearly the strongest person here, I believed that if he intervened, these people would stop immediately.
"Xian, stop fighting! If you destroy the place, we won't have anywhere to take shelter!" Snow Princess said helplessly from the side.
"If it gets destroyed, we still have tents. It'll be fine, don't worry." Xianxian said while continuing to fight, winking at Snow Princess in between.
This guy was hopeless; I looked up to the sky in despair.
Just then, there was a loud crash as a shadow flew past. We heard several gasps as one person crashed into a statue! He immediately fell unconscious, blood oozing from his head.
This is bad! I held my forehead; sure enough, after seeing blood, the two groups fought even more fiercely. It was clear that I had to intervene; it seemed like someone might get killed!
As I took a step forward, suddenly there was a familiar sound—a small crack—that made everyone inexplicably stop. This was the conditioned reflex developed by Tomb Raider over time! Both groups turned in unison towards the source of the sound. Although Tong Qi and the others didn't know what had happened, they followed everyone's gaze.
The person who had been hit had already gotten up from the ground, blood all over his face. At that moment, he was supporting himself against the statue and froze in place upon hearing the sound; it was too familiar, wasn't it?
Lime happened to be standing behind the statue, looking astonished as he stared ahead.
We exchanged glances and walked towards the statue. A few steps later, we reached the back of the statue, and I was also speechless in surprise.
"Is it a person? No! It can't be the Flesh Buddha!" Wang Yi exclaimed in shock.
The mechanism at the back of the statue was inadvertently triggered, revealing a hollow interior where a monk was sitting cross-legged. The monk had his back to us, so we couldn't see his face, and there was no smell of decay; he seemed to be in deep meditation. A faint scent of sandalwood wafted from him.
"Can we move him out?" Wang Yi asked with shining eyes.
Xianxian nodded slightly, and Wang Yi cheerfully called Zhao Yang to help move the person inside the statue.
Once he was brought out, everyone was astonished. The monk wore a yellow robe and appeared very old, likely over a hundred years old. Strangely, his body was intact, and his eyes were wide open! Sitting quietly on a mat, he looked like a living High Monk in meditation, indistinguishable from a living person. No matter how you looked at him, it felt as if he were alive; his complexion was rosy, and his eyes were calm and unfathomable, as if he could see into the depths of one's soul!
It was shocking! Extremely shocking!
Astonishment! All we could do was marvel! The power of Buddhism truly is incredible!
"I've heard that there are many flesh-bodied Bodhisattvas in China, which is quite remarkable, but they all seem to have their eyes closed. This is the first time I've seen a Flesh Buddha with his eyes wide open!" Rophie exclaimed in amazement.
"I've only heard about them too; I never expected to find one here... It's really worth the trip. It's a pity my phone is dead; otherwise, I would have taken a picture for keepsake!" Xiao Xiao said regretfully.
I remained silent, feeling that this monk seemed somewhat familiar!
"What do you think? If we take this Flesh Buddha out, will it cause a sensation worldwide?" Xianxian said with a mischievous smile.
"No way." I refused without thinking, and seeing everyone looking at me, I could only awkwardly smile and say, "Isn't that a bit inappropriate? We don't even know if he wants to!"
"They've been dead for who knows how many years. Are you going to ask for his opinion?" Xianxian shot me an annoyed glance and said with a smile, "Don't worry, leave it to Dr. Zhang and his crew. Those old folks will definitely take good care of him; it's much better than staying in this rundown place!"
I thought about it and realized she was right. There were quite a few people here who knew about this; if word got out and attracted some unsavory characters, the consequences would be even worse. Leaving it to Dr. Zhang and the others might be a good solution, plus it would contribute to the country—killing two birds with one stone! So I nodded in agreement, thinking that I needed to find an opportunity to bring him into The Dead.
With the appearance of the Flesh Buddha, both sides fell silent and stopped fighting.
Looking at the Flesh Buddha in front of me, I couldn't shake off the feeling that he looked increasingly familiar!
Thinking about it, I went to ask Lime if he felt the same familiarity. But just as I glanced at Lime, I froze for a moment, suddenly realizing where that sense of familiarity came from! The old monk's eyes were exactly like Lime's! Especially that calm, unperturbed gaze that seemed to see through the world—it was like they were carved from the same mold!
"Lime, do you think he could be your relative?" I leaned closer to Lime and teased with a smile.
Lime gave me a faint glance and then closed his eyes again.
Something's off! This is too strange!
He really does look like him!
I couldn't help but mention it to Xianxian. After looking for a while, Xianxian suddenly exclaimed in surprise, saying that the monk might really be Lime's ancestor!
"Hey." I nudged Xianxian's arm and whispered, "Aren't we supposed to take him away? I have a great idea!"
"What idea?" Xianxian said dismissively, her expression clearly saying that she already knew what I was going to do.
I chuckled softly and leaned in to whisper, "Although we can collect it, I'm just afraid that some people might turn back halfway. If they find that the Flesh Buddha is missing, they'll definitely suspect something, so..."
"So?" Xianxian shot me a sideways glance.
I only whispered two words in Xianxian's ear, and her eyes lit up. Suddenly, she grinned mischievously, "Fengfeng, you've become wicked! But this method is quite good!"
After taking a nap, I realized that the sky had darkened again. The North Wind howled, and the cold weather was biting. I hesitated about our next move; this seemed a bit excessive!
Wang Yi went out under the pretext of relieving himself. When he returned, he exchanged a glance with Xianxian. She raised an eyebrow at me, signaling that we could proceed.
Yes, my method was actually quite simple but also a bit underhanded! I planned to let Little Black Ghost make a ruckus to scare everyone into fleeing down the mountain overnight. Then, amidst the chaos, I would sneak the Flesh Buddha into The Dead. Even if someone discovered it later, who would suspect us? They would likely think it was haunted!
I gritted my teeth and resolutely released Little Black. I had told it beforehand to wait for my instructions after coming out and not to make a sound otherwise.
The night served as a protective layer! For the pitch-black Little Black, it was even better at concealing its presence.
I glanced at everyone; they were scattered against the wall—some dozing off, others staring blankly ahead, and some tightly wrapped in their clothes.
The night was hazy and silent! Desolate mountains and treacherous cliffs surrounded the abandoned Mountain Temple!
With such favorable conditions, wouldn't it be quite normal for ghostly occurrences to happen?
