As the Black Bear leaned back, in a moment of panic, he grabbed Xianxian's foot.
I heard Xianxian let out a muffled grunt as he slid down. The dagger cut through the ice and slid down several meters before finally stopping without falling off.
"Big Brother, I'm sorry! I'm just too sleepy!" The Black Bear quickly apologized for dozing off. Xianxian grunted and said, "Hold steady and let go!"
"Ah, oh, sorry, sorry!" The Black Bear replied, then lay back on the ice.
We stopped and waited for Xianxian to climb back up again before I asked, "How are you?"
"I won't die," Xianxian gritted his teeth and said.
After another moment of silence, we slowly advanced step by step. Finally, I saw the light of victory; just a few more meters and we would reach the top. "We're almost there, hang in there!"
"I can't do it anymore; I'm really out of energy..." The Black Bear gasped heavily, gripping the dagger without moving. He looked so exhausted that it seemed he would fall at any moment. In fact, we weren't much better off; our hands were already worn and frostbitten, bruised and swollen, dripping with blood.
But it didn't matter because we were about to reach the top. "Just hold on for one more minute; I can see the end."
Another painful climb ensued. Looking at the edge of the ice reflecting light, my excitement grew stronger with each step. One step, two steps... Just as my fingers grasped that smooth edge, suddenly a bluish-purple face appeared above us, followed by a deafening scream: "There's a ghost!!!"
What ghost? Just as I furrowed my brow, my shoulder was pushed hard by a force. I watched helplessly as my hand left the ice surface and I leaned back.
**!**!
At this moment, there was only one voice in my mind: damn it, I finally managed to reach the top, and yet, and yet...
In the instant of falling, two loops of rope suddenly wrapped around my waist. Stunned, I immediately grabbed hold, leaving me hanging in mid-air. I didn't dare to move at all when someone above suddenly spoke, their voice slightly puzzled: "Master Qing?"
"It's me," came Lime's voice.
"You, you all..." The newcomer seemed very surprised, unable to finish their sentence.
"Quick, pull him up!" Another man's voice called out, sounding familiar—it was Pei Zi! They really weren't dead! Overjoyed, we were all pulled up one after another.
Above were indeed Pei Zi and the others. Pei Zi, feeling excited yet a bit awkward, said, "Well, luckily Master Qing is skilled; otherwise, we would have..."
"Hey, hey, Master Qing! How did you end up here?" Before Pei Zi could finish his sentence, a startled voice interrupted—it was Wuma You, looking as if he had seen a ghost.
I rubbed my wrist and smiled. "Naturally here to help. How are you all doing?"
I looked at Pei Zi and the others. Although their clothes were dirty and covered in mud and dust, their faces had turned a bluish-purple from the cold, it seemed like their clothes had dried quite a bit. Pei Zi glanced back at the person behind him who was warming himself and then smiled. Just as he was about to speak, Wuma You began rubbing his arms together while exhaling puffs of breath and said with a grin, "Luckily our boss is clever; we cremated a few corpses, so our clothes dried quite a bit."
So that's how it was! I nodded and didn't think there was anything wrong with what he did. If it were me, I might have done the same thing. Therefore, I had no right to judge others' actions. As for them having "cremated" a few corpses, I didn't know about that but wouldn't spoil the mood by asking.
"By the way, you guys seem to be in good spirits. Hmm, your clothes don't look like the originals." Wuma You said while shivering and walked over to Black Bear's side. Black Bear was already exhausted and pale; Wuma You shook him vigorously a few times and asked, "You must be living quite well with those guys!"
"Haha, indeed! Luckily I met those big brothers; otherwise, I would have died long ago!" Black Bear laughed foolishly.
"I really didn't expect to see you here!" Looking at how they were shivering from the cold, I sighed deeply and said, "The clothes and equipment we have were all found from that area of the Frozen Ship, and there's still quite a bit..."
"Still? Where, where?" Wuma You asked urgently. Cold Snow, Wuma You, Big Dragon, and Pei Zi all turned to look at me, their eyes shining as if they had spotted prey.
Xianxian also walked over, wiping the blood off her face with a wet cloth. As she approached, she gestured downwards and said, "It's right below."
"The stuff was too heavy, so we left behind the unnecessary items when we climbed up," I said apologetically.
Pei Zi quickly replied, "We checked that ice before; it's very smooth. The fact that you managed to climb up is already a miracle. If you had brought all that extra weight, you would have exhausted yourselves halfway up. So, if you don't mind, can we go down to get it?"
"Of course!" I smiled and said, "Those were originally prepared for you. If it weren't for special circumstances, we wouldn't have left them behind."
"Thank you so much!" Pei Zi quickly expressed his gratitude.
Wuma You was jumping with excitement, "After being frozen for so long and almost freezing to death, finally we can have warm clothes!"
At that moment, Big Dragon walked over, looking at us with confusion and concern. He asked, "But are you really okay?"
I glanced at Lime, then at Xianxian, and finally looked down at myself with a helpless smile. "We're fine; none of this is our blood. I'll explain later. Right now, you must be hungry too. We happened to find some Compressed Biscuits; let's make do with those." After saying that, I took off my backpack and started pulling out food.
Compressed Biscuits have a long shelf life and are essential for exploration, so it made sense to find them on those ships without raising suspicion.
"I'm sorry for causing you trouble," Pei Zi said with an apologetic expression. "At first, I just wanted to dry off my clothes and didn't think about looking for things on those ships. After all, everything was frozen solid; I couldn't have opened them by myself. Luckily, I called you guys this time."
"Thank Lime for that. If he hadn't come, we might have frozen to death by now!" I maintained a faint smile as I spoke.
Pei Zi nodded and solemnly thanked Lime. The others followed suit and expressed their gratitude.
"I was really rude before, I'm sorry!" Yuguo approached with his tail between his legs, still looking somewhat sullen after grabbing a biscuit.
"That was indeed quite rude," Wang Yi said from the side, looking much more recovered now.
Yuguo's expression darkened further, feeling ashamed and at a loss for words. Wang Yi laughed heartily, "But don't worry, we can't be bothered to hold it against you. Just enjoy your food; it's not poisoned, haha..."
Yuguo forced a smile and sat down to eat his Compressed Biscuit.
"Thanks a lot!" Cold Snow also grabbed two packs, thanked us, and joined the group sitting nearby to eat.
"Boss Feng, are these guys part of our The League of Shadows?" Sun Cheng suddenly floated over, circling around Pei Zi, stroking his chin and nodding repeatedly. "Hmm, not bad, not bad. They are polite and seem quite capable. But burning corpses is just too terrifying!" After saying that, he darted behind me with a look of fear.
I shook my head lightly to indicate they were not our people. I had only left seven "people" from the Spirit Department with us: Jiang Feng and six others. The rest had been sent out to search for clues. So for now, we just needed to rest here to regain our strength before continuing our actions.
"Black Bear, you have rope in your bag too, right? Take it out; it should be enough," I said after the food distribution was done. I remembered putting some in his gear during the initial distribution.
Sure enough, Black Bear quickly got up and said, "Yes, yes." He rummaged through his bag and pulled out a small bundle of rope. I glanced at it; it was double-stranded rope that should hold up when separated. I raised my eyebrows at Xianxian. Before I could say anything, Xianxian looked dejected and sighed, "You want me to go down there? Fine, fine. Who told me to be so strong? I'll reluctantly accept this."
Ahem, I hadn't even said anything yet; could you not be so narcissistic?
I shot him a glance and said irritably, "I didn't plan on letting you go down anyway. Since you agreed so readily, I won't let your good intentions go to waste!"
Xianxian was taken aback for a moment before shouting, "Why didn't you say that earlier?"
"You didn't give me the chance," I replied calmly.
"Since we've troubled you so much, how can we still let you go down? Naturally, I'll go down myself," Pei Zi immediately said.
Xianxian smirked, a half-smile on her face as she stared at Pei Zi. "Are you looking down on me?"
"Of course not! How could that be!" Pei Zi protested vehemently, shaking his head in assurance.
"This Lord can climb up once, so there can be a second and third time!" Xianxian said proudly, raising an eyebrow. "So since This Lord has already promised, there's no way to go back on it..."
"I'll be damned." Before Xianxian could finish her last word, a faint voice interrupted, somewhat cold but not intentionally so.
"Ahem, what did you say?" Xianxian choked on her words and turned abruptly to look at the speaker, who was Lime.
Lime remained unfazed and simply repeated, "I'll be damned."
"Do you know that sounds like you're mocking me?" Xianxian raised her eyebrows, her lips twitching slightly.
