Chapter 186: Two Ice Forms Become One!
After Pei Zi jumped down, I hesitantly asked, "Just now, Pei Zi jumped down alone, right?"
"It seems like there was definitely no second person!" Another Me replied.
"Who cares? We'll ask when he gets here," Xianxian said, stretching lazily before sitting down on the ground. Another Xianxian did the same, both of them sitting side by side, their actions and expressions almost identical. I could no longer tell which Xianxian had first joined me!
After a brief stretch of my limbs, I felt a bit hungry. I tried to enter The Dead again, but it ended in failure, so I sat down like Xianxian. Due to the thicker clothing, even sitting on the cold ice surface didn't feel particularly cold.
We waited for about two or three minutes without checking the Ice Coffin, all of us anticipating Pei Zi's arrival. I thought that since the four of us had come together, we should also check the Ice Coffin together; this didn't require much thought. Moreover, taking a moment to rest for a minute or two was a good choice after walking for so long; it would be impossible not to feel tired.
Like us, Pei Zi eventually landed safely on the icy ground. He looked just as he did when we parted, but his expression upon seeing us was one of shock, as if he had seen a ghost in broad daylight.
"You guys? How did you become doubles?" This was Pei Zi's first remark after approaching us.
From his words and tone, it was clear he hadn't encountered anyone like himself or perhaps had already duplicated; it was uncertain if the one in front of him was the original or a copy.
"Who knows? We just ran into each other while walking. We were wondering if we might have encountered something similar to the Pisces Jade Pendant Incident," Xianxian said while brushing off nonexistent dust from her clothes and standing up.
Pei Zi quickly processed this information and looked at us thoughtfully, saying, "It does seem somewhat similar. But you guys really don't feel anything unusual?" he asked with concern.
"Honestly, no!" Xianxian emphasized again. We all agreed that it was indeed bizarre to unexpectedly encounter someone who looked exactly like oneself—no, another version of oneself!
After thinking for a moment, I added, "Also, let me tell you some very unfortunate news!"
As soon as I finished speaking, Another Me chimed in, "It seems that The Dead is currently ineffective!"
"Exactly! We have no food now. If you have any over there, please share it with us. After traveling such a long distance, This Lord is starving!" Xianxian said while rubbing her stomach pitifully.
"Why didn't you say so earlier? I have some!" Pei Zi laughed as he quickly took out his backpack and started pulling out food.
"I have some too," Lime succinctly replied.
After we had eaten our fill, we officially made our way towards the Ice Coffin, filled with sincere determination and a sense of reverence, taking one careful step at a time. Well, although those steps weren't very noticeable.
The green light seemed to pour down from nowhere. Whenever I looked up towards the top, the intense brightness would cause me to squint or even close my eyes instinctively to protect them from being burned by the light. So, even now, I had no idea what was going on with that light above, and why it was green.
"Wait!" As we walked, Xianxian suddenly exclaimed dramatically. We all stopped and looked at him as he asked mysteriously, "Are we just going to walk over? Aren't you afraid there might be traps?"
"If there are, we'll just have to deal with it!" Another Xianxian rolled his eyes at Xianxian and said, "Don't be so jumpy; let's move!" After saying that, he boldly led the way forward.
I couldn't help but twitch my lips; this person really is...
However, due to Xianxian's sudden outburst, we were more alert during our walk than before. But... when we reached the end, we still didn't encounter any mechanisms.
"Have you noticed that ever since we came in here, they've been sending us messages?" Pei Zi suddenly spoke up.
I was staring at the Ice Coffin, and sure enough, it looked exactly like the one carved on the ice wall earlier. The Ice Coffin had four corners adorned with vividly realistic images of four azure dragons. Each dragon was of equal size but had different expressions.
One was indifferent, one was sinister, one was arrogant, and one was proud.
I knew that these four expressions represented the same dragon. However, looking at the Ice Coffin, it seemed like a solid piece? I crouched down to examine the icy lid and body; there were no seams or signs of later processing. It looked like a complete whole.
Moreover, although it was an Ice Coffin with its shimmering transparency, I couldn't see anything inside it—not even a blurry outline.
In short, this coffin was indeed made of ice. When I touched it with my hand, it felt cold and smooth—just like regular ice—but perhaps due to psychological effects or something else, it felt even colder than usual.
"Do you think there might be treasures inside that are even more impressive than The Dead?" Xianxian's eyes sparkled with excitement; he seemed eager to open the coffin lid and see what treasures lay within.
"Is it even more impressive than The Dead?" Pei Zi chuckled, "If such a thing really exists, what could it be?"
"How about it? Can you open it?" Looking at the green Ice Coffin reflected by the Green Light, I eagerly asked Lime.
Lime examined it for a while and touched it with his hand. After a moment, he said to us, "I think we need all four of us to work together." He then looked at the rest of us.
"You don't mean we all have to touch these Ice Dragons, do you?" I pointed to the four azure dragons at the corners of the Ice Coffin as I spoke.
"It can't be that simple, right?" Xianxian said suspiciously.
Lime nodded and then looked at another version of himself and us, his eyes shining with a green light. Calmly yet firmly, he said, "Now, think about whether you really are who you think you are."
We were all pondering the meaning behind Lime's words. After a moment of silence, Pei Zi uncertainly said, "You can't be doubting..."
"Doubting what?" Isn't it something like mirror duplication? Could there be something different? Looking at Lime and Pei Zi's expressions, I wasn't sure if it was indeed a mirror copy.
"Doubting that we haven't been duplicated!" Pei Zi spoke up, admiringly looking at Lime and said, "Maybe you really guessed right!"
"Hey, what are you guys talking about?" Xianxian looked suspiciously at the two who were playing riddles. His expression seemed to suggest he had guessed something but wasn't entirely sure.
I felt the same way. So I turned to Lime, hoping he would clarify quickly. Lime wasn't the type to keep people in suspense, so he slightly parted his Crimson Lips and explained, "It's not mirror duplication; it's Ice People!"
Ice People!?
At this point, I suddenly felt much clearer in my mind. I subconsciously looked at Another Me and saw him staring back at me with disbelief.
"I was thinking that writing out the prophecy was enough; why create four Ice People?" Xianxian stroked his chin and said.
"Could it be... that this was prepared for us from the very beginning!?" Wow, was that surprise? Or disbelief? One could only say that the methods of the Demon Clan were truly beyond expectation!
After a moment of silence, Xianxian asked, "So what should we do now?"
"I have never encountered this formation before, so I think we should ask Azure Brother to explain it to us," Pei Zi added.
Lime's experience is indeed the most extensive among the four of us. He has clearly encountered more mechanisms and formations than we have, so since he can quickly discern the situation, he must have already guessed the solution.
Lime's dark eyes sparkled with an unknown light as he spoke in a firm tone, "The two ice entities must merge into one!"
Merge into one? Does this mean that the Ice Person and Ice Dragon will become one?
Looking at the other version of myself, I suddenly felt a sense of reluctance and asked, "What happens after they merge? Will they revert back?"
Lime fell silent. In truth, I already knew the outcome without him saying it. There is always a cost to gain something; this is the price that must be paid to open the Ice Coffin—four 'lives'!
"I never expected that This Lord is actually the Ice Person!" Xianxian suddenly exclaimed in disbelief. She patted the shoulder of the version of herself that was speaking and comforted, "Don't be sad; it's making This Lord feel a bit upset too, having to watch myself disappear."
Since Lime had pointed out our current situation, we all seemed to awaken in an instant and naturally understood which one was the true self and which was the Ice Person.
Clearly, I am the real one. But just as Xianxian said, watching myself disappear before my eyes does feel a bit upsetting. Moreover, I had planned that once we got out, this dual identity would be very useful; I never expected… never expected to part ways so soon.
"Coincidentally, I seem to be the Ice Person as well. Shall we begin?" Pei Zi said with a smile, as if he were not sad at all, but I still caught a glimpse of a hint of sorrow in his expression.
How could one not feel sad? Being passively created by someone else has only one purpose: death…
