Chapter 192: I Started Learning from a Young Age
In the current situation, there was no way to discuss with everyone. Watching the white bones beneath the water grow more numerous and closer, I gritted my teeth and pulled an Underwater Mine from The Dead. Although we would be endangered by the shockwave of the explosion, it was better than just waiting to die here!
So, with determination, I threw the Underwater Mine down.
A few seconds later, a tremendous explosion erupted, and at the same time, a massive force surged up from below. The world spun around me; I could no longer distinguish Southeast from Northwest and could only let this terrifying and powerful force push me upward. My body pressed against the water hurt badly, as if it were about to split apart.
I knew others must be feeling the same way, perhaps even worse than I was.
I hadn't informed anyone about this action, so I hoped there wouldn't be any casualties!
Due to the shockwave from the explosion, I was propelled upward. Although I didn't break through the Surface, I seemed to see light pouring down from above! Ah, long-lost sunlight! How I've missed you!
Without time to think further, I scanned my surroundings for everyone. The first person I spotted was Lime, who was dragging a half-conscious person behind him. That person seemed to be Black Bear? After searching a bit more, I saw Pei Zi swimming while also dragging an incapacitated Yuguo.
As for Xianxian, where did he go!? He wouldn't have been caught in the explosion...
Just as I was worried, I noticed several figures appearing below in the water. Without thinking twice, I swam over and found that it was indeed Xianxian and his group. Why did I say "his group"? Because Xianxian was surprisingly holding two people—one was Wuma You and the other was Cold Snow.
I quickly went over to help. No need to thank me! I smiled at Xianxian and pulled Cold Snow from his hands. Cold Snow had been injured earlier and was now in worse shape due to the explosion; without help, he really wouldn't be able to swim up.
Xianxian gave me a "resentful" glance, which made me laugh because he looked so funny in that moment. Wuma You clung to him like an octopus; it was clear that Xianxian wanted to kick him off but knew that Wuma You would never let go easily. Xianxian couldn't just kick him away either, so he could only swim upward with great reluctance while carrying Wuma You along.
Cold Snow was small in stature, weighing less than 90 pounds, so carrying her upstream was not very strenuous.
Cold Snow did not lose Consciousness. After I took her, she instinctively wrapped her arms around my neck and rested her chin on my shoulder. This way, my hands and feet could move freely, making it easier to navigate upstream.
Later, Xianxian asked me how I felt at that moment.
I could only say it felt like having a sister—cold and weightless, struggling to breathe; who would think so much at that time!?
I don't know if it was our good luck or if Fu Song and the others were just trying hard, but shortly after we surfaced, a boat came toward us. I knew they must have detected the waves from the Big Bang in the sea, which is why they arrived so quickly.
After being rescued, we felt exhausted. The reason was simple: the journey had been too arduous and had drained too much of our energy. My body couldn't take it anymore, so after getting on board, I didn't even eat; I just curled up in a warm blanket and fell asleep.
When I woke up, it was already dark. After a simple dinner, everyone gathered together to discuss and share their experiences underwater.
"You arrived just in time!" I said to Fu Song with a smile. This boat belonged to our organization, The League of Shadows. As for Yang Qi and his group, they had left directly because they couldn't wait for us, saying they needed to prepare for another dive.
"This is what I should do, right?" Fu Song smiled, clearly in a good mood. However, he still expressed concern, saying, "You guys were missing for several weeks; everyone was really worried!"
I understood what everyone was worried about. Not to mention Lime being untraceable at that time, even Xianxian and I were considered the core of the organization. With the three of us gone, the significance of The League of Shadows would diminish greatly. So I patted his shoulder and said with a smile, "Don't worry; we're tough enough to survive anything!"
Fu Song nodded and looked at Lime, who was sitting quietly in thought. He asked curiously, "But how did Brother Qing end up with you? We searched for him for so long during this time! Who would have thought…"
"Heh heh, after all, we're brothers; there's no way we'd leave each other in danger."
"Brother, I'm really sorry this time. We didn't find any useful clues," Pei Zi said to Yuguo, whose wound had already been re-bandaged.
"No, no," Yuguo waved his hand. "This time it was indeed our recklessness. We rushed over without properly investigating the information. However, I never expected things would turn out this way!" Yuguo sighed and added, "But don't worry, we will still provide the reward!"
"Hehe. Then we'll shamelessly accept it. After all, the mission wasn't truly completed, so half will suffice!" Pei Zi said without any greed for money.
The two of them exchanged pleasantries, and Yuguo didn't say much more, laughing as he left, quite "thoughtfully" leaving us some time.
After that, we inquired about the recent developments of The League of Shadows. Fu Song mentioned that Gao Liang and the others had been doing very well in business. Now we had a stable income, and our intelligence personnel had been dispersed to many places.
Fu Song also said he had informed others about our return, including other crew members searching in these waters. Given such a significant event, it was impossible for only Fu Song's ship to be looking for us. However, since they couldn't create too much of a stir, there weren't many ships—only six in total. Besides just "wandering" on the sea every day, they were equipped with submarines, carefully and cautiously probing the movements beneath the surface.
"You did very well!" Other than this sentence, I really couldn't think of any words to express my joy. Once again, I felt that forming this organization was incredibly useful!
...
In the following time, we discussed related matters with Pei Zi and the others. Pei Zi still insisted that this matter should not be delayed any longer and that it would be best to set off in the next few days.
Time flies like an arrow; although many things had been waiting for thousands of years, they truly couldn't afford to wait any longer—they were already afraid of waiting.
Xianxian and I agreed; after all, there wasn't much going on after coming out. Moreover, with Wang Yi, Gao Liang, Zhao Yang, and Fu Song around, many matters didn't require our direct involvement. So we could act at any time; however, we couldn't set off immediately. We really needed to rest a bit and regain our strength before proceeding; this was also a form of respect for others! Otherwise, dragging a weary body along would make others uncomfortable at first glance.
Not long after our discussion, Snow Princess hurried over upon hearing the news. Xianxian was naturally very happy and hugged Snow Princess while chattering away, making Snow Princess both surprised and delighted—truly a mix of emotions.
Having had a bit to drink and needing some clarity in my head, plus having slept quite a bit in the morning but now unable to fall asleep again, I could only go up on deck to catch some fresh air. Looking at the distant horizon connecting with the Surface, the moon's Radiance spilled over the sea's surface, shimmering gently—a scene of tranquility and peace.
Suddenly, I felt all the energy in my body relax. When I was in Ice World, although I wasn't very tense, I was always on edge. It would be impossible to say that I was completely unconcerned, so this moment was truly the most relaxing.
At that moment, I heard footsteps behind me. Turning around from Consciousness, I saw a short-haired woman slowly approaching in the moonlight. Her face appeared somewhat pale under the moonlight, but it was fair and radiant. I was surprised to see her; indeed, it was Cold Snow! This was my first time observing her up close. Although we had interacted a few times before, her silent and aloof demeanor had prevented me from speaking much with her, let alone having any deeper interactions.
However, thinking back now, Cold Snow is actually quite impressive!
Not to mention how she managed to escape unscathed from Heizhugou, just the fact that she has survived among men without being eliminated speaks volumes about her strength, even though her appearance doesn’t reveal it at all! Moreover, this woman understands the Demon Clan language, which makes her even more remarkable!
“Thank you,” Cold Snow said as she walked up beside me, resting her hands on the railing and facing the sea.
“No need to mention it; it was nothing!” I replied somewhat awkwardly. Although I ultimately helped her up, it was initially because Xianxian had taken two at once that I “evened” things out by bringing one over. Now hearing her thank me made me feel a bit embarrassed to accept it.
After a period of silence, we stood there quietly together, gazing at the sea and the moonlight. The winter sea breeze was still quite chilly; it felt like being slapped in the face. Cold Snow's hair was blown to one side by the wind, revealing her fair and rounded profile as well as her neck. Her hair was messy yet beautiful.
“Um, it's really cold outside; do you want to…” take a break on the ground?
Cold Snow shook her head and looked back at the sea again, lost in thought.
In fact, Cold Snow is quite pretty; however, her personality is very similar to Lime's, which often leads people to overlook her. After standing in the cold wind for a while and seeing that Cold Snow had no intention of leaving, I casually brought up a topic: “I didn’t expect someone so young could translate the Demon Clan language without relying on any materials!”
Cold Snow rubbed her hands together and replied lightly, “It’s nothing special. My parents dedicated their lives to studying Whispers of the Dead, so I started learning from a young age…”
