The place we were flying to was Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan Province. The Azure Dragon organization has many branches, but their headquarters is currently located at Meili Snow Mountain, which is also known as the Snow Mountain Prince.
Situated in the world-renowned "Three Rivers Converging" area of the Jinsha River, Lancang River, and Nujiang, it connects to Tibet's Adonggni Mountain to the north and Biluoxue Mountain to the south. Its main peak, Kawagebo, stands at an elevation of 8,740 meters, located at 98.6°E longitude and 29.4°N latitude, sitting on the main ridge of the Nu Mountain range.
The main peak of Meili Snow Mountain, Kawagebo, is the highest peak in Yunnan and serves as the protector deity of the Nyingma School branch of Tibetan Buddhism known as Jiguba.
Its peak resembles a majestic and towering pyramid, with clouds occasionally shrouding it in a layer of mystery. Revered as the "God of Snow Mountains," Kawagebo is one of the eight sacred mountains in Tibet and is celebrated worldwide as "the most beautiful mountain in the world"!
Legend has it that Kawagebo was originally a fierce deity with nine heads and eighteen arms but was later converted by the Lotus-Born Master. He took layman's vows and converted to Buddhism, becoming one of the divine generals under King Gesar of the Thousand Buddhas' lineage, ruling over the borderlands and blessing the snowy regions.
Statues of Kawagebo are often enshrined on altars; he rides a white horse and wields a long sword, exuding an imposing presence as a guardian deity!
Having said all this, our main destination this time is right at the foot of Kawagebo. Generally speaking, legends are often wrapped around facts, so places with Mythical Legends may not necessarily be false; often, many truths are hidden within these so-called "mythical stories." Otherwise, why would the mysterious and powerful Azure Dragon Organization set up their headquarters here? There must be some reason! Perhaps there lies some astonishing secret within this snow mountain called Kawagebo!
After finally getting off the plane and going through various busy activities, we arrived at our destination. However, to reach the Azure Dragon headquarters, we still needed to walk a bit further. Since I had already slept well on the way here, I didn't feel like resting now; taking a walk and enjoying the cultural scenery here would be great.
"Since we've come here, I think it's necessary for you to thoroughly understand some situations here," Pei Zi said to us four.
"Why?" Xianxian asked curiously with raised eyebrows.
"Because..." Pei Zi smiled mysteriously, "I think you will need it later. So it's not a bad idea to understand it first."
Seeing Pei Zi's expression made me suddenly realize that my initial guess was true! This place indeed hides a significant secret. However, based on our current clues or strength, we clearly weren't prepared enough to venture into this snow mountain yet. Pei Zi nodded and began explaining about this snow mountain to us, including the Mythical Legends surrounding Kawagebo.
"Speaking of Kawagebo, we must mention Mentzum Peak with its graceful lines among all peaks; this name means 'Goddess of the Sea.' Legend has it that this peak is Kawagebo's wife and is located on its southern side." I listened attentively as Pei Zi continued: "It is said that the mighty and dashing Kawagebo accompanied King Gesar of the Thousand Buddhas on his expedition against Eroha Kingdom (in present-day India). The king of Eroha Kingdom pretended to delay by offering his stunningly beautiful daughter Mianzimu to Kawagebo. Unexpectedly, they fell in love at first sight; their unparalleled might and extraordinary beauty became inseparable companions through wind and rain."
"Kawagebo quickly conquered the Eroha Kingdom with the help of Mianzimu. Later, the couple was sent by Gesar King to the River Valley to govern the borderlands. Although she is Kawagebo's wife, her thoughts are with her hometown, so she faces towards it. Because Mianzimu's snow peak is always shrouded in clouds and mist, people refer to it as Mianzimu's veil of modesty."
"Mentzum Peak has an elevation of 6054.6 meters and covers an area of 30 square kilometers, with snow that never melts throughout the year."
"Mianzimu means 'Goddess of the Ocean' in Tibetan, and there is a local belief that Mianzimu is the daughter of Lijiang Yulong Snow Mountain."
"Mentzum Peak appears differently from various angles. From the east, its summit resembles a sharply pointed pyramid. From the southeast, it looks like a noblewoman sitting gracefully, with a beautiful and dignified peak. Perhaps because the goddess favors flowers, nature adorns the foot of the goddess peak with more blossoms; beneath the snowy peak lies vast patches of alpine rhododendron bushes that bloom in such abundance that they carpet the ground like brocade, making the snow peak even more enchanting."
"Speaking of these two snow peaks, I must also mention Jiwaren'an Peak, which means 'Crown of Five Buddhas!' Pei Zi said enthusiastically. However, I did not take it as a story but instead listened while connecting everything to the Demon Clan in my mind."
"Jiwaren'an Peak consists of five flat-topped and pointed peaks arranged side by side, located north of Mentzum Peak, with an elevation of 5770.5 meters. The legendary Bujing Songjie Wuxue Peak, said to be the son of Kawagebo and Mentzum, lies between Jiwaren'an Peak and Kawagebo Peak. The guardian deity in the northeast direction of Kawagebo is Mabinzalawangduifeng, also known as the Invincible Demon-Slaying War God (General Peak). Rough Guo Laka means 'the mountain above the round lake,' located above the ice basin of Sichuan Glacier." After a moment's thought, Pei Zi added, "These are basically the important points; if you have any other questions or want to look up information yourself, there shouldn't be much discrepancy."
"From what you've said, can I suspect that Kawagebo, Mianzimu, and their son Bujing Songjie Wuxue are not just mountains or simple Mythical Legends?" I raised my eyebrows, curious and puzzled. "Could it be related to that clan?"
Pei Zi only smiled without answering.
Could it be true!? I suddenly became aware that things were indeed not as simple as they seemed!
"So here, over all these years, has no one else come besides you?" Since the Azure Dragon Organization could discover something different here, it seemed unlikely that other forces had not noticed.
"I'll share a true story first," Pei Zi replied indirectly. "As early as 1902, a British climbing team made the first attempt to challenge Kawagebo Peak. From 1987 to 1996, climbing teams from Japan, America, and Central America successively attempted to summit Kawagebo but all failed. From November 1990 to January 1991, 17 members of a Central American climbing team tried to reach the top but tragically perished, becoming the second deadliest incident in world mountaineering history. The remains of these 17 brave souls were discovered by local Tibetan herbalists in July 1998. It is speculated that they fell victim to an avalanche that occurred on the night of January 3rd to January 4th in 1991; they now rest eternally on the mountain!"
