Chapter 224: Luo Yu
What is something that cannot be seen yet can be touched?
Just as I was deep in thought, suddenly, the thing I was holding slipped away from my grasp! At that moment, even more astonishingly, a cold hand grabbed mine from behind!
It was still invisible, but I was certain that the hand holding me now was the very thing I had just grasped! It was a hand, so could it really be a person?
"What's wrong?" Cold Snow seemed to notice something was off and cautiously asked me.
I was about to respond when I felt a cool breeze brush across my face, followed by a very faint voice whispering in my ear, "Tell her to leave..."
The voice was somewhat hoarse and distinctly feminine, sending chills down my spine. Upon reflection, I realized this voice was eerily familiar—no, it was too familiar. Compelled by an instinct, I turned to Cold Snow and said, "Xue Er, wait for me up ahead..."
Cold Snow seemed eager to ask why but ultimately remained silent. She nodded and turned to leave. I didn't turn on the lights; with Cold Snow gone, the surroundings fell back into darkness and silence, and the cold sensation gripping my hand intensified.
"Lime, is that you...?" I looked ahead, my heart racing. Had I found him so quickly? But...
The figure did not respond. Gradually, I saw it—a vague silhouette began to take shape before me in the darkness. His body seemed to emit a faint glow, though it was very dim and hazy.
Yet despite this, I could still make out his face: deep eyes like obsidian that resembled a bottomless pit, seemingly hiding untold sorrow. Beneath his prominent nose, his lips were pale; although his face bore no expression, I could feel his sadness.
It truly was Lime! The quiet one who always carried deep sorrow—Lime!
"We're here to help you!" I said joyfully to him.
He released my hand, looked into my eyes, and still expressionless, lightly opened his mouth and said, "I am not Lime."
Not Lime? I was taken aback and looked at him, then tentatively asked, "Are you... Luo Yu?"
He remained silent, quietly staring into my eyes. Just when I felt a hint of unease, he calmly asked, "Do you know everything?"
"Yes, but I still don't quite understand." Luo Yu looked at me, so I asked, "Haven't you already been reincarnated? Since there is Lime, why do you—Luo Yu—still exist?"
A person has only one soul; if someone has already undergone Reincarnation, then logically speaking, it shouldn't be possible for two people to exist at the same time. So... indeed, this person is not really Luo Yu?
Just as I was doubting, I heard "Luo Yu" say lightly, "This place is separate from the world you are in."
So, does that mean the you in that world and the you here are separate? I looked at him in confusion, unsure whether to believe him. Deep down, I really wanted to believe him; however, here, I had to remain cautious. What I saw... what I heard... who could tell me whether everything right now is real or fake?
At this moment, whether it was auditory, visual, or tactile sensations, everything felt so damn real that I truly couldn't distinguish anymore...
"Where are you going?" Seeing him turn to leave, I grabbed his sleeve tightly while cursing myself for being foolish and secretly wanting to believe that all of this was true.
Luo Yu stopped but did not speak.
I had long realized that it would be harder for him to speak than to ascend to heaven. So I asked, "What exactly have you discovered? Why did Lime come here?"
Luo Yu slowly turned back, and the corners of his mouth seemed to curve into a very faint smile: "Follow me."
"Wait!" As he was about to leave again, I grabbed his clothes, but in that instant, his clothing seemed like smoke; my hand passed right through it. Ignoring my surprise, I hurriedly said, "Let me call Xue Er."
Just as I turned to call Cold Snow, Luo Yu's calm voice came from behind me: "Only you can come with me."
How can this be happening!?
I was almost going crazy. One was a brother who had been through thick and thin with me, and the other... was my first girlfriend. I didn't want to give up either of them, but now...
"She really can't go, can she?" I asked him, looking at him with indecision.
Luo Yu just looked at me with his dark eyes, saying nothing. However, those two eyes clearly conveyed one message: no.
I was extremely anxious. After thinking for a moment, I ultimately conceded and said, "Then can I at least say goodbye to her?!"
Luo Yu merely glanced at me dismissively and then turned around and walked away!
Damn it! I was caught in a dilemma. Watching Luo Yu's back, I quickly took out a piece of paper from The Dead, hastily wrote a few words, left it behind, and chased after him.
I'm sorry, Xue Er, wait for me! I'll be back soon!
Although it felt like self-deception, this place should be much safer than where I was about to go, right? Leaving her here shouldn't cause too many problems. But deep down, there was still an unsettling feeling...
Luo Yu walked neither fast nor slow. His body also seemed half-real and half-illusionary, which was strange. "Luo Yu, tell me about your experiences here, okay?"
Luo Yu continued walking without acknowledging me.
I refused to give up and said again, "Look, we're brothers. I've come all this way to save you; sharing some information about this place wouldn't hurt, right?"
After a long while, I finally heard Luo Yu's voice. "What do you want to know?"
"How did you end up like this?" I asked the first question. In truth, that wasn't what I most wanted to ask, but I figured I'd take it step by step; everything takes time!
As I eagerly awaited his response, I was taken aback when he simply said, "I don't know." My frustration was palpable; could he not tease me like this?
"What did you see back then?" I asked, and quickly added, "Don't say you don't know!"
Luo Yu took a few steps before stopping, looking at me with clear eyes, and said three words, "Box of Ten Thousand Bones..."
"Box of Ten Thousand Bones? Is it literally bones?" I thought rapidly in my mind, searching for any information about the Box of Ten Thousand Bones. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't recall anything. Perhaps Xue Er would know, but unfortunately, without knowing what dangers lay ahead, I should probably go check it out myself first!
"Okay." Luo Yu glanced at me with a complex expression before turning around and continuing to walk.
That last look from Luo Yu felt very strange to me, but I couldn't pinpoint why. In any case, it left me with an uneasy feeling.
What was inside the Box of Ten Thousand Bones? What purpose did it serve? I asked him these questions several times afterward, but Luo Yu couldn't even be bothered to say "I don't know."
After walking for a long time and wandering around aimlessly, I soon found myself lost again. I had already lost track of the southeast and northwest directions, and now I was completely disoriented. Fortunately, there was a guide with me; however, this guide seemed somewhat unreliable...
Although Luo Yu and Lime were technically the same person, they were fundamentally different. For instance, I believed my relationship with Lime was quite good, but when I was with Luo Yu at first, I didn't feel anything unusual. Now, however, I could sense a bit of distance and strangeness. Despite their identical appearances and personalities, something felt off.
After all, I had never interacted with Luo Yu before; it was normal to have these reactions.
However...
I still kept in mind the phrase "Don't believe what you see or hear." Looking at the vague figure ahead of me, I frowned in deep thought.
"By the way," Luo Yu suddenly stopped. I looked at him in confusion as he gazed back at me calmly and said, "Have I ever told you something?"
"What did you say?" I asked in bewilderment.
"Don't trust me," Luo Yu said, seemingly suspiciously smiling for a moment before turning to walk away.
I stood there, shocked and pondering the meaning of his words. What did he mean by not trusting him? What was he trying to say? If someone were a bad person, they would usually say "trust me," right? But him? What did it really mean?
I was baffled, but my feet followed him without thinking. It was too late to back out now; I was completely lost in this maze. "What do you mean by not trusting you? What exactly do you want to say, Luo Yu?" I angrily questioned, keeping close behind him.
Luo Yu remained nonchalant, walking ahead without looking back, as if he didn't want to engage with me. The more he acted this way, the more curious and confused I became. Damn it, why did it feel like this Luo Yu was much harder to deal with than Lime?
At least Lime wouldn't say such nonsensical things; he generally didn't talk unless necessary. But this Luo Yu seemed to be messing with me from the very beginning.
Yet, I couldn't hit him or scold him; I genuinely couldn't think of a way to deal with him.
Suddenly, I recalled a scene from not long ago that I wasn't sure was a dream or a memory, so I asked, "By the way, you know Demon God Child, right?"
Seeing that he remained silent, I pressed on, "You've met him, haven't you?"
I didn't know why I was asking him this; perhaps I wanted to confirm whether that scene I heard not long ago was real or fake?
