Chapter 227: Mysterious Black Gate
A hissing sound came from outside the coffin, and an ominous feeling crept into my heart. To confirm what I was thinking, I took out my flashlight.
A flashlight is different from a headlamp; the headlamp's light is more dispersed, while the flashlight emits a long beam. So in this situation, I needed to use the flashlight.
I aimed it at the hole I had just dug, which was about the size of a fist, allowing me to see outside. But when I looked, I was stunned! Just as I suspected, the hissing sound was indeed made by a snake flicking its tongue!
I heard that snakes only flick their tongues when they are hungry and preparing to hunt! Whether that's true or not, right now it felt like I had no way out!
Without time to think further, I quickly took a piece of wood from The Dead and blocked the hole I had just made. Lying there helplessly, I replaced my Gas Mask with a new one; the previous one was splattered with a black, red, and foul-smelling liquid, rendering it unusable.
My thoughts raced. If it were the old me, I would have waited in despair for someone to rescue me. But things were different now; people must move forward. I couldn't always wait for others to save me. My purpose here was not to hold anyone back but to save lives!
How could I waste any more time here!
After securing the Gas Mask tightly, I took a deep breath and forcefully slammed against the coffin. The moment I did, the noise outside intensified. It felt like the coffin flipped again, and at that instant, I quickly extended my hands to brace against the wooden board. So now, the situation was that both I and the Zongzi behind me had tipped over, while the small hole I had just dug was right beneath me.
Okay! This is just right!
Although moving inside this coffin was quite inconvenient, at least I could still move. Now all I needed to do was dig a larger hole below and flip the coffin over; then I could run straight out!
With that thought in mind, I immediately began cutting into the coffin. Wood is still wood; using my favorite knife made cutting much easier.
Time passed second by second. Although there were "things" outside trying to disrupt me, heaven does not forsake those who work hard. After much effort on my part, I finally cut open a hole that was neither too big nor too small but just enough for me to crawl out!
Now, all I needed was an opportunity. The next time the coffin flipped open, I would crawl out through the hole!
The opportunity soon arrived, and the effect was surprisingly good! Just as I was about to make some noise, I heard a "thud," and then the wooden board that had just been cut fell down, followed by me tumbling headfirst downwards!
The coffin was actually being lifted by "them"! Hahaha, it seems they were getting desperate since they couldn't catch me and came up with this method. However, it backfired!
At the moment the coffin was lifted, I felt something unusual. After quickly burrowing out, I didn't look back and ran straight outside.
However, as I ran, it felt like I wasn't stepping on solid ground but rather on uneven pebbles scattered across the floor, almost slipping with every step. With each footfall, it felt like countless sticks were hitting my legs; of course, I knew those weren't sticks but snakes!
Fortunately, it was winter! Wearing multiple layers of clothing had its advantages; at least the snakes couldn't bite my flesh now!
Luo Yu was long gone. As soon as I ran out of the tomb chamber, I headed back, even though I knew the direction I chose might be wrong. It wasn't until I felt that nothing was following me from behind that I finally stopped.
I took out water, medicine, and a change of clothes from The Dead. After briefly treating my wounds, I anxiously set off to look for others. As for Xianxian and Pei Zi lying in that coffin, no matter what, I would never admit they were real!
With a moderately heavy backpack and a headlamp as my only source of light in the darkness, it felt so lonely and surreal.
I didn't know how long I had been walking when I noticed that the width of the passage seemed to be widening. This realization brought me joy; could it be that I was finally going to escape that damned maze?
Just then, I saw that there was no way forward...
A massive wall stood imposingly in front of me. Fortunately, there was a door on this wall! Otherwise, I would have been utterly frustrated.
This door—wait—was actually black!? I reached out to touch it; it felt very cold. As I pondered this, I suddenly thought of those rows of Black Crystal Coffins inside the Ghost Clan Tomb. It made sense for coffins to ward off evil spirits, but this...
No! This isn't Black Crystal!
After touching it, I sensed something was off; this realization came instinctively—this is diamond, commonly known as "diamond stone"!
Traditionally, people refer to processed stones as diamonds and unprocessed ones as diamond stones. In China, the term diamond stone first appeared in Buddhist scriptures. Diamonds are the hardest natural material in existence; their best color is colorless, although they can also come in rare colors such as blue, purple, and golden yellow. These colored diamonds are rare and considered treasures among diamonds.
The production of diamonds is extremely rare, with finished diamonds typically being one billionth of the mined quantity, which makes them very expensive.
The "door" in front of me is even more remarkable; it is a solid piece of Black Diamond!
Black Diamond, also known as Black Diamond, has a black porous structure and a hardness comparable to other diamonds. It is a type of natural polycrystalline diamond found in alluvial deposits in the Central African Republic and Brazil. Its natural color is black or dark gray, and it has more porosity than other diamonds, making it one of the most popular decorative items among the upper class. Among the various colored diamonds, Black Diamond is particularly precious due to its scarcity.
Astrophysicist Hagilty from Florida State University stated that the formation process of ordinary diamonds is essentially the same from Australia to Siberia, and from China to India. However, the composition of these diamonds differs from that of black diamonds.
Previous research findings have been supported by the latest data, indicating that black diamonds are actually products of supernova explosions. When they first fell to Earth, their diameter was about one kilometer or even longer, resembling a small planet!
Therefore, when I realized this was an entire piece of Black Diamond, I was extremely shocked. Just this piece alone—no, even just a small fragment could make me a millionaire in minutes!
But what good would it do to become rich?
Shaking my head, I decided it was better to find a way out and quickly reunite with the others!
This four to five-meter-high Black Diamond is very smooth. Although it initially looks like a door, upon closer inspection, it seems embedded in the wall. There are no keyholes or any other features like carvings or patterns...
However, considering the hardness of this Black Diamond, engraving any patterns would indeed require exceptional skill. Even modern people would need considerable effort for that.
Ah, without realizing it, I seemed to be trapped in my previous mindset from nearly twenty years ago! What’s wrong with modern people? What’s wrong with high technology? The powerful ancient secrets cannot be compared to modern technology! This is an undeniable fact!
Whether you believe it or not, this world has weakened more than just a fold compared to before! There is a qualitative difference!
What a pity there isn’t a keyhole! As I touched this valuable Black Diamond, I pondered whether to turn back or continue searching for mechanisms or something else. Just then, I heard a "click," and my index finger suddenly sank down!
I didn’t move because the spot where my finger sank seemed to have an incredibly strong attraction. The more I tried to pull my finger out, the more tightly it was held.
For some reason, I suddenly calmed down and stared intently at this Black Diamond before me because patterns gradually began to emerge on the smooth surface of this "Black Gate"!
It was as if an invisible pen was carving a piece of mud in front of me, effortlessly creating patterns. First, a circle appeared, and gradually, one after another, more circles emerged, all overlapping each other. I focused all my attention on this geometric symbol that was forming before me.
This process could also be described as breaking down the circle into many congruent pointed oval light rings. It seemed to repeat this process seven times, simultaneously rotating outward, creating a pattern that resembled “Cell”!
And so it continued, repeating infinitely, the patterns created were too vast for me to fully comprehend, given that this phenomenon was quite high and nearly two meters wide!
Just as I looked up in awe, a sudden sharp pain shot through my finger. I instinctively pulled my hand back, only to find that half of my index finger was missing! It was bloody, and the pain nearly made me faint!
Damn it, what kind of “door” is this that it even bites off fingers!!!
Cautiously stepping back two paces, I took out a piece of cloth to tightly wrap around my finger, enduring the excruciating pain while feeling a mix of anger and confusion as I stared at this bizarre phenomenon before me.
What did the series of circles appearing above the “door” signify?
With half of my finger gone, I was even less willing to leave this place easily, especially since this strange pattern seemed to hide a tremendous secret! If only Lime, Xianxian, and Xue Er were here! They might understand it!
Thinking this, I quickly pulled out my phone and snapped a few pictures of the “door,” planning to ask them about it later.
Just after taking the photos and before putting my phone away, I suddenly heard several “clattering” sounds. Immediately afterward, the “big door” in front of me slowly began to open!
I watched in disbelief as everything unfolded before me; it was completely beyond my imagination! So it shouldn’t be something I imagined! It might very well be real! This thought emerged in my mind…
