Chapter 240: Invisible Barrier
A faint yet clear sound of collision came from ahead, causing everyone in the team to stop in their tracks, their eyes alertly focused forward.
I furrowed my brows as well. Logically speaking, we had ventured so far that we should have encountered some traps or mechanisms along the way, but we hadn’t. So, what was happening ahead was anyone's guess.
At that moment, Yang Bin approached and said thoughtfully, "Feng Xiao Ge, there’s an Invisible Barrier ahead; we can’t get through..."
Invisible Barrier?
I walked forward in confusion. To prepare for any unexpected events, Yang Bin and the others had spread out to scout the area. But this Invisible Barrier?
"This is it." Yang Bin extended his hand forward, pressing against the invisible "barrier." Xianxian had already eagerly reached out to touch it, her eyes wide with surprise as she exclaimed, "Fengfeng, it really feels like there’s something here!"
I also reached out. The air ahead seemed normal, but the moment my hand made contact, I felt a difference. It was slightly cool to the touch, as if I were pressing against a highly pressurized surface—soft yet incredibly resilient.
"What’s going on? What happened?" Heiyun and Wuma You squeezed up from behind, exchanging puzzled glances at us.
We had never encountered a situation like this before. Lime's eyes flashed with surprise; clearly, he was just as clueless about why this was happening. Xianxian felt around but seemed to find no clues. She then returned with a dejected expression and said, "The path is blocked."
"The path is blocked? How is that possible? There’s nothing ahead!" Wuma You and Heiyun approached skeptically and reached out to touch it just like we had. Their astonishment and disbelief after touching it were evident, while we remained relatively calm; after all, we had already encountered artifacts like The Dead, so our nerves had toughened.
"Could it be a formation?" Xianxian looked at me and asked curiously.
I shook my head. While formations could also prevent entry, their principle involved confusing people or obscuring direction, or causing them to walk in circles back to where they started. Thus, this situation was different from the Invisible Barrier we were facing now.
The situation we are facing now is undoubtedly much more advanced than a formation. It reminds me of those fantasy cultivation novels I used to read in school. Such "barriers" seem to be something only those who have achieved immortality or divinity can create. But do immortals and gods really exist in this world? At least, I have never encountered any.
"This is too creepy! How about we take another path?" Wuma You said anxiously. The black bear beside him nodded repeatedly. I couldn't help but find it amusing; if they were so scared, why did they come in together? They hadn't even reached the destination yet and were already backing out. I really couldn't tell if they were genuinely afraid or just pretending.
"Don't forget our purpose for coming here." I naturally wouldn't accept Wuma You's suggestion. The lack of movement would be far more terrifying; encountering a situation like this now only means that we have found the right place.
"Hehe, this time, I really didn't come in vain! Haha, it's so amazing! I knew following you guys would be thrilling!" A discordant voice echoed loudly in the stone cave, but strangely, there was no echo at all. There had been no echoes along the way, so I didn't pay much attention to it.
"Be careful not to lose your life from all this excitement!" Xianxian shot a glance at Yu Yu, her mouth twitching slightly.
It was Lime who spoke next, "This barrier is related to where we are going. Since it exists here, there must be a reason for it."
"Yes, yes, yes! This is it! Lime, hurry up and find a way to break it!" Xianxian showed no signs of politeness as she directed Lime.
The others looked on with disbelief; they didn't need to see their expressions to know what they were thinking. Lime's reputation had long been established, and although Black Blade had intentionally undermined him, he was still an exceptionally powerful individual. Thus, everyone looked at Xianxian with admiration; there were very few who dared to command Lime like that.
Lime didn't bother arguing with Xianxian and went off to study the formation on his own. I also began to search my mind for similar information, hoping to uncover something relevant. If "Zi" truly merged with me, then his memories—essentially the deepest hidden memories in my mind—should reveal some insights. With this thought in mind, my curiosity about my origins grew even stronger.
In a vague sense, I felt like I was touching upon something significant, but for some reason, when I tried to think deeply about it, nothing came to mind. However, one thing was clear: I was indeed that person lying in the small coffin all those years ago.
How could I be so certain?
It was an instinct. Remembering whether that dream was real or not made me realize that many things wouldn't remain buried forever. Now, I just needed an opportunity! The truth was only a step away from me; I needed the right moment to help me break through that layer of wrapping paper.
Meanwhile, Wang Yi and Xianxian began conversing.
"Master Xian, are we just going to wait here?" Wang Yi asked impatiently.
Xianxian replied nonchalantly with a smile, "What's the rush? No matter how anxious we are, it won't just break like that. Let's wait a bit longer."
Wang Yi's expression was conflicted as he asked, "Can't we just use brute force to break it?"
"This method seems worth a try," Fu Song surprisingly agreed with Wang Yi.
"What do you think?" Xianxian nudged me with her arm and asked.
"I'm just afraid something unexpected might happen." Using brute force? If this method is misused, it could be deadly...
As soon as I finished speaking, Wang Yi shouted from the side, "How about we use explosives to blow it up?"
Regarding whether to use explosives, we couldn't make that decision; it ultimately depended on the "senior expert," Lime. So, we all looked at him and noticed a barely perceptible frown on his brow. In the end, he nodded and moved away from the boundary.
I pulled Cold Snow back as well; this part was left to Wang Yi. If anyone here had the strongest demolition skills, it would definitely be Wang Yi. If he said he was second best, no one would dare claim the top spot. There are priorities in learning, and expertise in specific fields is essential for making the most of resources.
Since there were various calculations to consider and we couldn't afford large-scale destruction, we couldn't help much and had to rely solely on Wang Yi's efforts while we observed from the sidelines.
The emotions and expressions of those observing varied. Aside from two people who were excited by the commotion and showed no concern, others either looked indifferent or displayed signs of worry. Although I didn't want to damage this ancient stone cave either, there was little we could do. Lime also didn't have complete confidence, so we could only let Wang Yi give it a try.
"Feng, I need to talk to you about something," Cold Snow said as she tugged at my hand, her expression worried and distracted.
"What is it?" I greeted Xianxian and the others while pulling Cold Snow away to a spot not too far from the crowd but still private enough so that our conversation wouldn't be overheard. It seemed Cold Snow didn't want anyone to hear what we were discussing.
Once it was just the two of us, Cold Snow slowly lifted her head. The flashlight was aimed at the ground, so there was no reflection in her eyes. I could clearly see her concern and hesitation, prompting me to hold her hand and ask, "Xue Er, what happened?"
"Didn't I tell you before that I saw the future?" Cold Snow looked into my eyes and said seriously.
I nodded without asking where she saw it or what she saw because I knew that since she had called me aside, she wanted to tell me directly.
Sure enough, after a moment, Cold Snow began to recount everything that had happened inside Paradise Spirit Tower.
After I left with Luo Yu, Cold Snow indeed went back for a while. Upon seeing the note I left behind, she set out to find me. During her search, she came across some human bones and found several notes among the remains. From those notes, she learned many things she had never heard of before.
As for what she saw about the future, she did not tell me. Just as she was about to speak, a loud explosion echoed from ahead, causing the stones beneath our feet to tremble.
Although I already knew much of what Cold Snow mentioned, I was still surprised after hearing it all. When I connected it with everything I knew, I actually found some clues. I immediately decided that I needed to discuss this with Lime and Xianxian.
The notes Cold Snow referred to were written on a special Silk Manuscript, and their identity was quite controversial. The font used was from the Demon Clan language, but they were not members of the Demon Clan; rather, they were opposed to it.
From what Cold Snow saw, we can confirm one thing: the Whispers of the Dead were not created by the Demon Clan! Or rather, those who used that language at that time were not solely from the Demon Clan!
But why did that language ultimately come to represent the Demon Clan?
Who were the people existing alongside the Demon Clan during that period? Why is there no record of them in history? Why is there no clue indicating their existence?
The Demon Clan are not "Awakened Ones"; they are Cultivators.
Awakened Ones still exist on this planet; they are even more hidden. If they do not reveal themselves, it seems no one would be able to find them. This is not only because of their strong abilities but also because they seem to possess some other special skills...
Could those Awakened Ones be part of the God Alliance?
The truth is gradually coming to light...
