Chapter 248: The Desire for Slaughter
The chilling cries of the baby continued unabated, and Yang Bin had not returned. I idly played with my phone in my hand, as it seemed that since coming down here, I had rarely used my phone...
In the past, I was never without it; I either played with my phone or my computer every day. Now, it felt like I hadn't played in a long time. But it was only after losing my phone and internet access that I realized how close people could be to one another.
Except for Yu Yu, it seemed that most of the people I encountered did not use their phones at all. Even when they had some free time, they either chatted and joked with each other or slept. This way of life was surprisingly fulfilling.
Before long, Yang Bin floated back with a camera. I asked him about the situation again, but it was still much the same as before. So, I started watching the footage he had just recorded. Aside from Divine Hand, most of them gathered around to watch together.
In the darkness, a monster about the height of a person was dozing in front of a coffin, and the baby's cries were coming from its mouth.
Aside from the burial items, there was only one coffin in the Ear Chamber. The floor of the tomb was relatively dry; indeed, there was no sign of water. There were no significant discoveries in the video, so soon everyone packed up their things. At Divine Hand's command, they quietly made their way over.
I cautiously followed behind. There were only about a dozen people in Divine Hand's group—neither too many nor too few—most of whom were unfamiliar faces. They showed no desire to get to know me better; the entire team was silent and very disciplined!
I quietly tucked the camera into The Dead; this was a major research discovery and could be considered an invaluable treasure—something money couldn't buy. It was incredibly precious and needed to be protected from loss or damage.
Gu Diao continuously emitted its unique baby-like cries. Even though we were walking lightly, we could not underestimate Gu Diao's alertness. Just as we reached the intersection—the entrance to the ear ornament—Gu Diao suddenly opened its eyes wide. A vicious red light flashed in its gaze, and an overwhelming sense of murderous intent washed over us!
Without hesitation, Divine Hand and the others reacted swiftly. Just as the monster stood up and prepared to attack, they immediately opened fire with a barrage of gunshots!
In an instant, the monster's roar and the baby's cries, accompanied by the crackling gunfire, echoed through the already narrow tomb passage like thunder, nearly shattering my eardrums.
We had no idea of the true strength of this Gu Diao, nor how many there might be here. We shouldn't have acted so recklessly, but the monster's speed was too fast; we had no time to think of a strategy. Besides, before coming here, we had discussed it among ourselves but couldn't come up with any good plans. Regardless, a life-and-death battle was unavoidable!
Just moments ago, several people near the Gu Diao were suddenly grabbed and then swallowed whole by the monster. Their screams abruptly ceased, and fresh blood dripped from the monster's teeth onto the ground, instantly staining the tiles red. The stench of blood mixed with a foul odor assaulted my senses, making me want to vomit.
The Gu Diao was incredibly powerful, but the bullets were also formidable. After taking a hit, the Gu Diao staggered back repeatedly, numerous bloody holes appearing on its body, resembling its terrifying and bloody eyes!
With a loud bang, a sudden noise erupted from behind in the Ear Chamber. The two Ear Chambers faced each other, and since I was standing at the entrance of another one, I could still hear it clearly despite the chaos. The Divine Hand was commanding his subordinates on the other side to deal with that formidable Gu Diao, and my nerves began to tighten.
Behind me in this Ear Chamber was also a Black Coffin, but at this moment its lid had already been thrown to the ground; that noise must have been from the coffin lid falling. Yang Bin and his team once again used their ethereal bodies to scout ahead while I shone my flashlight intently at that coffin.
As it turned out, just as Yang Bin floated towards the coffin, a dried corpse suddenly sat up. Though it was called a dried corpse, it was actually a Zongzi! This Zongzi's muscles had long since shriveled and even changed color without any signs of decay but emitted a chilling stench. I quickly took out my Black Blade but then remembered that there seemed to be a Black Donkey Hoof I had unintentionally acquired from The Dead; I had hardly ever tried it before, so today seemed like a good opportunity to see if this legendary weapon was effective.
I had long heard that this Black Donkey Hoof was a weapon used by Earth Masters to counter Zombies and was an essential item for home travel, killing, arson, and exorcising demons!
There are many theories about its principle that have been passed down through generations, all imbued with strong mystical elements. The scientific explanation should be that there is some insulating material in the Black Donkey Hoof that clashes with the biological electricity within Zombies. Stuffing the Black Donkey Hoof into a Zombie's mouth acts like adding a barrier inside it. So just as it crawled out of the coffin and lunged at me, I threw the Black Donkey Hoof with all my might right into its gaping mouth.
The Zongzi reacted as if it had been injected with adrenaline; it howled several times in fury and violently pulled out and discarded the Black Donkey Hoof that had been lodged in its mouth for over ten years.
"Wow, it actually didn't work? Could it be expired?" Seeing that the Azure Eye Zongzi was rushing towards me at high speed, I brandished my Black Blade and dashed into the Ear Chamber where there were more people. There wasn’t enough space to maneuver effectively outside, so I had no choice but to enter this eerie tomb chamber.
The Zongzi was incredibly strong and taller than those I had seen before. Its attacks were driven purely by instinct. When my blade struck its body, my hands went numb from the impact. Thus, I had no choice but to muster all my strength to deal with this millennium-old Zongzi.
I never expected this Azure Eye Zongzi to be so damn tough! It must have been trained before!
Thinking about this, another deafening roar from Gu Diao echoed from behind. The Azure Eye Zongzi here became even more agitated upon hearing it, its fierce gaze seeming like it wanted to tear me apart right then and there! If it weren't for my mental training over the past few months, I would have probably been intimidated by its imposing presence. I must say, this Zongzi I encountered this time is incredibly formidable! Remembering the previous Zongzis and Blood Corpses I faced, they were nothing but child's play!
I originally wanted to quickly deal with this Zongzi, but unfortunately, it took quite a bit of time before I managed to sever its head. If it weren't for the impressive origin of this knife, it might have broken long ago!
After the battle, a long-lost surge of adrenaline coursed through my body once again. At that moment, I suddenly craved bloodshed intensely; I wanted to vent the inexplicable rage within me. I couldn't control this desire; the more I suppressed it, the stronger my craving for blood and slaughter became. This was a situation I had never experienced before.
Until Gu Diao's roar reached my ears once more, I grabbed my knife and charged forward...
