Chapter 249: Mysterious Characters
The Gu Diao continuously emitted its unique, baby-like cries, resembling sorrow and rage. At this moment, I could no longer contain myself and rushed through the crowd, wanting to vent the pent-up anger that had been building in my mind for so long.
This anger seemed to originate from a distant past, making my emotions difficult to control.
The Gu Diao appeared to be an adult one. Just as I charged forward at full speed, the Gu Diao suddenly flipped over, shaking its head and baring its teeth at me. As it moved, the sharp horns on top of its head came slicing toward my body. The sharpness of those horns made it clear that if they struck me, it would be a gruesome scene!
This was the first time I had shown such ferocity in front of Divine Hand. Naturally, I did not see their surprised expressions, but even without looking, I knew that Evil Bird must have had a look of realization, thinking, "So that's how it is; I was right all along. This kid has been hiding too deeply!" Meanwhile, Divine Hand was probably watching me with a smirk.
As a fierce beast, the instinct of the Gu Diao kicked in when faced with human provocation. The primal instincts inherited from its bloodline surged through its body. With a roar, its sharp claws and pointed horns lunged at me simultaneously. With a powerful leap, its body arched like a bow and soared above my head. I barely dodged in time, stepping onto the wall and using that momentum to land precariously on the back of the Gu Diao.
Without wasting a second, I plunged the Black Blade into its back. In that moment of desperate struggle from the Gu Diao, a deep gash was carved into its back by the Black Blade, and blood began to seep out from the wound.
The Gu Diao was drenched in blood. Since I was half-kneeling on its back, I was very close to it and got splattered with its blood. Suddenly, a strong smell of Blood Stench hit me; its blood was extremely foul-smelling. I couldn't help but wonder what it had been eating all these years; the stench nearly made me fall off its back.
In pain, the Gu Diao charged toward the wall. This seemingly suicidal action caused me considerable harm as well; with gravity pulling me down, I barely managed to stop myself from crashing into the wall. Fortunately, this wasn’t underwater, and the Gu Diao didn’t have any natural advantage.
Drawing my dagger from my waist, I seized an opportunity and drove it into its skull. The Gu Diao shook violently, trying to throw me off. I held tightly onto the Black Blade embedded in its body because once the dagger pierced its head, it didn’t take long for the Gu Diao to stop struggling. I then fell into a pool of foul-smelling blood. With the death of the Gu Diao, the surrounding stench calmed my racing thoughts considerably.
After pulling out both the Black Blade and the dagger, I noticed that a group of people at the entrance were looking at me with strange expressions. Divine Hand still wore a smirk while Evil Bird twitched at the corners of his mouth. A hint of surprise flashed in Kong Guayan's eyes. However, White Two, with an expression full of admiration, said to me, “Feng Xiao Ge, impressive skills!”
"Ha ha, after being with those two guys for so long, if I don't make any progress, I'll just be an idiot." Wiping the blood off my face, I was sure they knew who I was referring to. These people looked unusual, so how could the matters of the Tomb Raiding world escape their notice!
"True," White Two chuckled and praised me, "But I have to say, your progress is indeed rapid!"
Accepting the surprised gazes of everyone, I calmly walked towards another tomb chamber, saying as I went, "Oh right, the Zongzi in that coffin over there has been chopped up by me. I'm not sure about the one over there; I'll go clean up this blood first." With that, I entered the left Ear Chamber on my own.
The people from Divine Hand did not come in but headed towards where Gu Diao had just died. There had been such a commotion, yet there was nothing in that coffin; unless it wasn't Zongzi inside, otherwise it would have jumped out long ago.
I quickly washed off the blood and stench from my body with water and changed into clean clothes. While munching on some compressed beef and drinking mineral water, I walked towards the right Ear Chamber.
The people from Divine Hand were gathered around that coffin. After hearing the noise, they all turned to look at me. I wasn't sure if it was just my imagination, but it seemed like a suspicious smile flashed across Divine Hand's lips?
The others had twitching mouths; Evil Bird looked as if he had swallowed a fly. "Like a woman, bringing a change of clothes into the tomb!"
I shrugged, took a bite of the compressed beef, raised an eyebrow and smiled, "If you don't like it, come bite me!" That's just how willful I am!
Evil Bird's expression darkened even more; his mouth twitched as he finally ignored me completely.
Walking past the already lifeless Gu Diao, I quickly approached the coffin. Looking down, I couldn't help but freeze—there was no Zongzi inside! However! There was a line of bloody and strange font carved inside!
"What does it say up there?" As I spoke, I pulled out my phone and snapped a picture because I couldn't understand this kind of writing. Just in case, I decided to take a picture first and later ask Xue Er to translate it.
"You're thinking too lowly of others," Evil Bird shot me a glance and then asked Divine Hand, "Divine Hand, what does it say up there?"
Divine Hand knew that there were people who could decipher such texts on my side, and since I would find out sooner or later, he did not hide it. He calmly said, "It is said that the Divine Sign is deep within; as long as we keep going down, we will find it."
"Divine Sign? Is it really here?" Evil Bird asked, his eyes bright with surprise and joy.
Divine Hand's expression was serious, and he did not respond. Instead, Kong Guayan remarked, "It might be a trap."
Whether the Divine Sign was truly here or if someone was trying to lure us deeper with false promises didn't matter much. Since we had come this far, we had no intention of leaving without discovering any clues.
"Let's go." Today wasn't entirely fruitless; at least the encounter with Gu Diao was quite exhilarating. It was a rare opportunity for real combat experience. Although it wasn't as thrilling as fighting alongside Lime and the others, it was still a valuable lesson learned through blood.
"Hey, do you think there was originally a Zongzi in that coffin in the left Ear Chamber?" White Two leaned against Kong Guayan and asked.
Kong Guayan nodded and simply replied, "Yes!"
I also believed that there had originally been something in that coffin; I just didn't know where it had gone. After all, we were not the first visitors here, so such a situation was expected. I just hoped that those who came before us hadn't made things even more chaotic!
Moreover, Gu Diao's appearance indicated that there must be a significant water pool within this Underworld, likely not far from here. We needed to be cautious of various traps and mechanisms!
