Chapter 286: Mysterious Scientific Research
In the center of the city, the bright lights illuminated every inch of soil beneath the rushing wheels, as if the light emitted the brilliance of the entire sun, unwilling to let the vehicle deviate even slightly from its forward path. Looking out at the night through the large glass window, I saw many taxis parked on the desolate streets. The pedestrians continued with their lives as usual; the world felt so real, society felt so real. Would things really be better after change?
"Still thinking about that matter?" Xianxian asked me with raised eyebrows from the driver's seat.
"Is my expression that obvious?" I smiled lightly.
"Not just obvious!" Xianxian shook his head and then said with a hint of worry, "Do you think we should tell Dr. Zhang the truth?"
Actually, I had been pondering this matter when Xianxian called me. The issues concerning God Alliance and Demon Clan, two worlds that should theoretically be in cooperation, were significant for both the nation and the government’s future. Dr. Zhang and his team had the right to know the truth.
However, we knew that the higher-ups in the government were unlikely to be unaware of this information. Moreover, what we knew was not just ordinary intelligence; it was likely among the highest classified information in the country. Therefore, leaking even a little bit would be a serious matter, and it would be impossible not to worry about it.
After considering the severity of the situation, I said, "Let's not tell them for now. Knowing certain secrets isn't always a good thing!" There were indeed many instances where those who learned too much were erased from existence. Although I believed that those above wouldn’t resort to such actions, it was better to be cautious. Some secrets are destined to remain uncovered!
Before long, the car stopped in front of a hotel. As I stepped out and looked at the luxurious five-star hotel before me, I couldn't help but smile and shake my head. "Yule Pavilion, what a great name."
Indeed, this Yule Pavilion hotel was an asset under The League of Shadows, which meant it belonged to both me and Xianxian. We didn’t need to separate our finances.
"Of course! Just look at who came up with the name," Xianxian said proudly. Seeing his animated expression, I knew it must have been Snow Princess who thought of it since he certainly didn’t have the brains for such things.
"Alright, let’s go! Dr. Zhang and his team are already waiting for us inside." With that, Xianxian tossed the car keys to a staff member and urged me to hurry inside.
I nodded and immediately followed him in.
As a Five-Star Hotel, the facilities inside are naturally very luxurious, and the expenses are quite high, making it a place where only wealthy individuals tend to visit. This indirectly indicates the financial strength of the Yomeng group, as well as the business acumen of Wang Yi and Gao Liang.
Upon entering a high-end private room, I noticed that there were quite a few people inside. Although I initially thought that Dr. Zhang would be the only one present, I was surprised to see Major Ma, Fu Gao Ren, and even Master Monk had come as well.
As soon as Dr. Zhang saw us approaching, he greeted us warmly, "Xian, Brother Xian, come, come, come, sit down."
"It’s been a while! I heard you went to Flower Mountain Caves. Did you have fun?" Major Ma also stood up to welcome us, but his tone had an ambiguous undertone.
"Ha ha, it was alright," I replied with a smile.
"Where is Azure Brother?" Fu Gao Ren looked behind us with an inscrutable expression. Dressed in a traditional Tang suit with a long white beard, he asked with some disappointment. Master Monk still maintained his dignified demeanor.
I politely greeted them before explaining, "Lime isn’t comfortable in such settings, so... I hope you can understand!"
"Ha ha." Fu Gao Ren smiled gently. "Well, I was just asking; how could I possibly mind? Right, old man?"
"Indeed," Master Monk nodded in agreement.
At this point, Xianxian and I had taken our seats. A table full of delicious dishes was quickly served.
Dr. Zhang and Xianxian were chatting animatedly while Fu Gao Ren and Master Monk exchanged a few words while eating. At this moment, Major Ma poured me a glass of wine and said with a smile, "Don’t just eat; let’s have a toast!"
"Sure," I raised my glass to clink with his and then downed it in one go. It felt like fire in my stomach; to be honest, I hadn’t had alcohol in quite a while. Seeing my reaction, Major Ma chuckled and suddenly asked, "Didn’t you say last time that you hadn’t found a job yet? How about considering working at our police station?"
"Huh?" I looked at him in surprise. Major Ma is part of SWAT; does he want me to become a special police officer? Special police officers are tasked with certain special missions, and SWAT is an elite unit within the police force responsible for various high-risk operations.
"Forget it, I'm not cut out for being a police officer!" I politely declined. After finally having some free time, I didn't plan on working, especially not in a job like the police where you could be busy one moment and not the next.
Major Ma seemed to want to say something, but then Dr. Zhang's voice came through, "Xian, Feng, Uncle Zhang has some materials for you both to take a look at."
"What kind of mysterious materials are these?" Xianxian said this but still took the stack of white papers that were stapled together from Dr. Zhang. Since Xianxian and I were sitting together, I turned my head to look as soon as Xianxian received the materials.
The first page had two large characters in the center: "Miracle." Then I flipped to the second page, which only had three lines:
Incredible life mysteries have sparked great interest among scientists.
Do you remember how electric currents and "invisible waves" were once ridiculed? Our understanding of humanity is still in its infancy.
—Albert Einstein
"The theme of this material is a burgeoning scientific research in the United States. This research captivates the hearts of millions of Americans. As it enters various countries amidst heated discussions, it has become a focal point of human attention at the turn of the century.
The East has long joined this research endeavor. Research reports from scholars in mainland China have appeared in international academic journals. Scientists from various countries are exploring a topic of common concern for all humanity. Their research results have made waves around the world and stirred our era.
Once published, hundreds of thousands of copies in this field of research quickly sold out!" Dr. Zhang said with a serious expression, clearly placing great importance on this research.
"What...?" I was about to ask what kind of research it was when Dr. Zhang continued speaking to himself: "Science has infused art with charm, evoking excitement in life and tremors in the soul. There are some case studies within; scientists have begun their research based on these cases. It should be noted that some names and details regarding certain individuals have been modified for their protection. The research and content here should pique your interest..."
