Outside the convenience store, the rain showed no signs of letting up. Large raindrops pattered against the glass window, blurring the view outside.
"This rain probably won't stop anytime soon," Duan Jiayu said as he glanced out the window before turning to Sang Zhi. "Once it eases up a bit, I'll take you home."
"Okay," Sang Zhi nodded, her gaze falling on the soda bottle in her hand, but her thoughts drifted elsewhere.
C University, the university where Duan Jiayu once studied, had always been her dream. Now, she was finally about to step onto this land and follow in his footsteps.
Thinking of this made Sang Zhi's heart race uncontrollably again. She secretly looked up at Duan Jiayu.
He was leaning against the shelf, focused on his phone, his long fingers swiftly gliding across the screen. The dim yellow light cast on his profile accentuated his sharp features, making him appear even more handsome and charming.
Suddenly, an impulse surged within Sang Zhi.
"Brother..." she couldn't help but call out to him.
"Hmm?" Duan Jiayu raised his head and looked at her with a puzzled expression.
"I..." Sang Zhi bit her lip, hesitating for a few seconds before finally gathering her courage to say, "I... I like you."
As soon as the words left her mouth, her face flushed with embarrassment, and she hurriedly lowered her head, unable to meet Duan Jiayu's gaze.
Time seemed to freeze at that moment.
Duan Jiayu was stunned. The phone in his hand slipped and fell to the floor with a dull thud. He looked at the girl he had always cared for, and his heart couldn't help but race. He finally realized that his feelings for Sang Zhi were no longer just a simple brotherly concern for his sister.
He took Sang Zhi's hand, his gaze firm as he conveyed to her that he liked her too and was willing to wait for her to grow up.
The sudden confession caught Sang Zhi off guard, and surprise and unease intertwined in her heart. Facing Duan Jiayu's sincerity, Sang Zhi slowly lifted her head, the corners of her eyes still glistening with unshed tears. She opened her mouth as if wanting to say something.
"I..." Sang Zhi opened her mouth but found her throat dry, unable to say anything. She lowered her head, nervously twisting her fingers, her heart in turmoil.
Duan Jiayu noticed her unease. He gently pulled her into his embrace, tenderly stroking her hair while softly comforting her, "Silly girl, you don't need to say anything; I understand."
Sang Zhi buried her head in his chest, feeling the warmth radiating from him, and her previously anxious heart gradually calmed down. The rain continued to patter softly outside, and the dim light of the convenience store cast a warm glow around them, as if enveloping them in a hazy yet beautiful filter.
"Zhi Zhi, I love you," Duan Jiayu gazed at Sang Zhi with deep affection, his tone both firm and gentle. "I will always be by your side, support you, and be your strongest backing."
Upon hearing this, Sang Zhi felt a lump in her throat, and tears welled up in her eyes again. She sniffled and tried to control her emotions, gently nodding.
Duan Jiayu tenderly wiped away the tears at the corners of her eyes before taking out his phone and dialing a number.
"Hello, Mom, it's me." There was a hint of barely noticeable joy in Duan Jiayu's voice. "I... I have a girlfriend now, yes, the one you've met... Yes, I really like her... Okay, I'll bring her home to see you and Dad."
His face was beaming with a happy smile, as if he possessed the whole world at that moment. On the other end of the phone was their shared family, witnessing the beginning of this beautiful love.
