Victor's veins bulged at his temples, and he wished he could kill her with a glance, making her pay for her betrayal.
But when it came time to act, he found he couldn't bring himself to do it.
In the end, Xia Yangyang felt a sharp pain in her shoulder as fangs pierced through.
Victor lowered his head, his melancholic eyes glinting with bloodlust. "You are unworthy of being my partner. You should be condemned to a lifetime of scorn by the ocean, becoming my slave."
Xia Yangyang didn't understand; she only felt that the ability to breathe freely underwater had suddenly vanished, and the sea rushed in eagerly.
As soon as Victor released her, she immediately swam toward the surface. To Victor, it looked no different from a desperate attempt to escape.
Breaking through the water's surface, Xia Yangyang gasped for air.
Just as her head emerged, the system shouted urgently, "Run! Swim to the left! The offshore current will help you escape them faster."
Xia Yangyang held her breath and swam left.
The plan was flawless, and the commands were executed without error. Before long, all firepower was drawn toward her.
The offshore current was swift; despite Xia Yangyang's poor swimming skills, she was confident she wouldn't fall into enemy hands at this speed.
She was nearing deeper waters, but Victor remained trapped there.
The system's timely reminder reassured her: "Next, they will launch a Torpedo. Keep following my instructions; I will alter the Torpedo's trajectory to sever Victor's cable."
In the deep water zone, the system was following the plan to head towards Victor, while Xia Yangyang swam in the opposite direction.
The plan was supposed to be flawless, but a problem arose in one area.
Xia Yangyang had forgotten that she was just an ordinary human. After Victor stripped her of the skills he had granted her, her body became weak.
Having just undergone an egg retrieval and swimming for so long to reach the deep water zone, she was already exhausted. Her arms felt as heavy as lead, and she could no longer paddle even once.
Darkness began to creep into her vision, and the system panicked: "Xia Yangyang, what are you doing? Swim! You are still within Torpedo's range; if you stop now, you'll be blown to pieces."
Xia Yangyang's consciousness blurred as her body floated in the sea, unable to touch the sky with her hands or find solid ground with her feet.
She lay back, watching as the light from above grew dimmer.
She feared she might truly struggle in this unbearable sea and prayed for another chance from the heavens.
She had thought that binding with the system was her opportunity, but this task was far from easy.
Xia Yangyang managed a faint smile as she saw her mother, who had kept vigil by her bedside for ten years. She reached out to her mother, thinking about how heartbroken she would be if she died.
Suddenly, it seemed her mother sensed her call and turned to look at her.
Xia Yangyang was startled but was then gripped by an even stronger force holding her hand tightly.
Victor's eyes were bloodshot with rage; behind him was a sky full of light that nearly shattered his proud elegance.
In the mysterious palace of the deep sea, a male Siren sat on the throne, looking at the Tentacle in his eyes, a faint smile gracing his features.
The Siren was the legendary first Ocean Monarch, and every descendant had inherited his beautiful hair without exception.
The male Tentacle nodded slightly, and the monarch's gaze fell upon the human behind him, who was barely clinging to life.
"If you are also a child of the Siren, then you should understand human nature. They are cunning and treacherous, recklessly bringing devastating disasters to marine life."
The Tentacle trembled slightly. "She has never done anything to harm the ocean; she is even too timid to catch crabs. Not all humans are bad."
Half of his face was burned, and he was slightly crouched on the ground. "She was my companion, standing by me during the days when I was threatened by humans. I plead for the Heart of the Ocean to save her."
There was no trace of sympathy in the monarch's eyes. "Then you should think carefully, shouldn't you? Since you once loved her so much, what did she do to you that made you so angry as to mark her as a slave?"
Victor felt despondent; once marked as a slave, it could never be changed.
The monarch was not surprised by his reaction. "I will have the greatest Sea Warrior heal her affliction, but the Heart of the Ocean is the source of energy for the sea, and I will never allow humans to touch it."
"Without the heart and its regenerative powers, how could she possibly survive?"
"Then you should not be here begging in vain, child. Cherish your last moments and say goodbye to her properly."
