"Master, this is your 40th apology email!" Xiao Fang reported to Yezhi, who was lying on the grass in frustration, rolling around. What to do...?
"Xiao Fang, how about we buy a gift and include an apology letter? Wouldn't that be more sincere?" Yezhi suggested, trying to gain Xiao Fang's approval.
Since taking charge of the finances, Xiao Fang had become increasingly frugal. Whatever Yezhi wanted to buy, Xiao Fang would not refuse but would tirelessly browse the Cosmic Mall Website to find the most affordable options for Yezhi to choose from. For instance, the Shockwave Power Gloves were purchased for 50,000 Bodeton after Xiao Fang compared prices. However, the saying "you get what you pay for" applied here as well; after using the Shockwave Power Gloves, Yezhi's hands trembled for a week.
Recently, Xiao Fang had developed a new obsession with online shopping, spending day and night on the Cosmic Mall Website. The most astonishing thing was that this virtual robot could actually feel fatigue and gradually began to show signs of exhaustion with dark circles under its eyes while facing Yezhi. One day, it even fainted on the grass, causing chaos in the system as countless stars uncontrollably fell onto the grass, turning the entire tabletop into a sea of flames.
"Master, Xiao Fang has been monitoring the Cosmic Mall trends daily. Anything Miss Dulisa likes is bound to be expensive!" Xiao Fang shook its head and was about to continue when Yezhi interrupted, "Then sell the other six Bear Bones!" Xiao Fang exclaimed in shock, "No way! Those six will sell for ten times their price in a year." The pained expression on Xiao Fang's face made Yezhi burst into laughter. Hugging its square head, Xiao Fang thought for a moment and said, "Master, how about we go up the mountain to find Fo-Ti?" This was indeed a good idea. Seeing her approval made Xiao Fang extremely proud as it secretly opened the legendary robot manual "The Essential System Robot for Masters": Chapter One is about safeguarding wealth for the master; Chapter Two is about saving money for the master; Chapter Three is about relieving worries and solving problems for the master...! Yay! It had accomplished all of those! Go for it~ You can do it, Xiao Fang! You are an indispensable Xiao Fang for your master!
...
Yezhi was a person of action. The next morning after finishing classes for the Kids, she ventured into the mountains alone in the afternoon.
In the scorching summer sun, beams of light filtered through the dense forest like a dream. The humid air was cool and pleasant, with blooming flowers of various colors enchanting her. Yezhi dug up several plants to take back and try planting. As she continued forward, clusters of green leaves and vibrant orange and white flowers caught her eye. Yezhi felt that the forest was truly magical; spring was a paradise for wild vegetables while summer was an ocean of blossoms. She called out to Xiao Fang and posed in various cute stances so that Xiao Fang could take pictures of her.
"Master, this is Hemerocallis, also known as Daylily; its buds are edible," Xiao Fang informed her. Having known her for quite some time now, it was no surprise that upon hearing "edible," Yezhi's eyes lit up.
Yezhi picked one flower and examined it closely; this Daylily couldn't possibly be what she usually ate—the dried yellow flower! The more she looked at it, the more it resembled one. Without hesitation, Yezhi plundered a patch of Daylily buds and dug out part or all of the roots from a cluster of Robust Daylilies to place in her backpack.
After wreaking havoc among the Daylilies, Yezhi sat down on the grass to rest, drenched in sweat. She took off her non-breathable rubber shoes to reveal her chubby white feet. Thirsty, Yezhi instructed Xiao Fang to search for water sources. Xiao Fang emitted a beam of exploratory light and said, "Master, there is a small stream 90 meters east." From the image transmitted back, Yezhi saw a gently flowing stream and someone drinking water by its edge... She blinked in disbelief; it should be a person... an unclothed child who looked dirty beyond recognition. He had wild eyes full of spirit. Forgetting her shoes entirely, Yezhi ran toward him in excitement.
She had only run a few steps when she was startled by a pack of over ten wolves that sprang out from the green background. She hesitated; wolves were so intelligent, alert, and good at running. According to One Egg and what she had seen herself, she was certain that Child was in cahoots with the wolf pack; he was the legendary werewolf.
In the two or three minutes of hesitation, Child and the wolves vanished from sight. "Master, should we chase them?" Yezhi shook her head and walked back to the grass to pick up her rubber shoes. "Master, based on bone age analysis, Child is 6 years old and female," Xiao Fang reported while retracting the exploration light. Hearing Xiao Fang's words made Yezhi feel even more complicated. When One Egg first mentioned it, she had thought it might be a werewolf. Now that she had actually seen it, would this little werewolf, who had lived with wolves for so long, forcibly take her away or let her voluntarily descend the mountain to live a so-called normal life?
"Master, there's a Pet Communicator for sale at Cosmic Mall Pet Store; it might help you." Yezhi jumped up excitedly and pulled Xiao Fang around. "Xiao Fang, can you help me buy it?"
"Master, the Pet Communicator that can decipher one language is priced at five million Bodeton; we don't have enough money!" Xiao Fang frowned, trying hard to imagine a disappointed expression. The robot manual said to share in the master's joys and sorrows; when the master was sad, you should be even sadder, and when the master was happy, you should be even happier.
Yezhi felt there was no need to rush this matter. She patted her backside covered in grass fluff and called out to the seemingly disappointed Xiao Fang, "What are you standing there for? Keep exploring; we haven't found Fo-Ti yet!" Then she strode toward the small stream; she was dying of thirst.
A few birds larger than pigeons with ash-gray feathers and black stripes on their tails wandered through the woods. Yezhi activated the identification function as various data appeared. Upon seeing the words Hazel Chick, she chuckled slyly and gently untied the Beast Binding Rope from her wrists. She interrupted Xiao Fang's exploration with her mind and had Xiao Fang calculate the best timing to throw the rope. Quietly approaching within five steps, she was spotted by a Hazel Chick that flapped its wings and attempted to fly away. Xiao Fang shouted, "Master, throw!"
Yezhi immediately threw out the Beast Binding Rope, causing two Hazel Chicks to fall from mid-air. When she picked up the two Hazel Chicks, they were still struggling desperately—silly birds! This one would die faster; turning her head to wait for the Hazel Chick to breathe its last before placing it at the bottom of her backpack.
Xiao Fang hopped ahead exploring for Fo-Ti while Yezhi followed behind humming a tune as they traversed through lush bushes. However, on her left hung light blue round fruits from green trees, and on a small tree in front of her right hung deep red spherical fruits—how familiar they looked! After examining them closely, Yezhi joyfully exclaimed that the blue ones were blueberries and the deep red ones were Hawthorn. Xiao Fang bounced back from ahead and asked, "Master, what's wrong?"
Don't blame Yezhi for being excited; blueberries are high-end fruits that she would splurge on as a foodie but had never eaten enough of. With such a pure natural bounty before her for free, how could she not be happy? While greedily picking blueberries and stuffing them into her mouth, she savored their unique fragrance—sweet and sour—refreshing and delicious.
After gathering enough blueberries and some Hawthorn until her backpack could hold no more, she laboriously carried it forward. "Have you found Fo-Ti?" Yezhi called out to Xiao Fang.
Xiao Fang shook her head then nodded: "There are some; either they aren't mature enough or just bloomed. Master, it might be out of season."
Yezhi gave up: "Then let's not look anymore. Next time we go to the county pharmacy to see if they have any for sale. Xiao Fang, lead the way back." Xiao Fang activated the cosmic navigation system and guided Yezhi back to Zhoujiatun.
"Daughter, why haven't you come back yet!" Aunt Zhou anxiously paced around in the yard. Black Treasure thought Aunt Zhou was playing with it and happily chased after Aunt Zhou's footsteps. Suddenly stopping made Black Treasure reluctant; it hugged Aunt Zhou's calf and twisted its chubby body in a spoiled manner.
Yezhi, carrying a heavy basket on her back, finally arrived at her doorstep. Aunt Zhou heard the noise and rushed out, almost knocking Yezhi over as she entered. "Aunt, why are you in such a hurry?"
Seeing Yezhi panting, Aunt Zhou quickly took the basket from her. Yezhi stretched her limbs, and Black Treasure affectionately pounced on her. She patted Black Treasure's fluffy round head and called out to Xiao Fang, who was eagerly taking pictures of Black Treasure.
"Girl, you picked so many Persimmons and Mountain Red flowers! What are these... these... two flying dragons for?" Aunt Zhou said while sorting through the items in the basket.
Flying dragons! It turned out that Hazel Chick was one of the four great mountain delicacies—she was so lucky! Not minding the messy blood and flesh of the flying dragons, she started boiling water to pluck their feathers. Aunt Zhou couldn't bear to watch Yezhi's clumsy movements and took over the task of plucking feathers.
After washing her hands, Yezhi boiled a pot of water. Black Treasure circled around a pile of Persimmons and Mountain Red on the ground, wanting to eat but too scared to move for fear of being spanked by Yezhi. Ten days ago, Black Treasure had stubbornly climbed up the Peach Tree, ruining all the peaches and breaking several branches. When Yezhi returned home from class to find chaos and saw Black Treasure sitting on the ground gnawing on a peach, she was furious and spanked it five times. Since then, Black Treasure had learned its lesson; it no longer touched things that weren't given to it.
Seeing Black Treasure behaving so well, Yezhi grabbed a bowl of Persimmons and Mountain Red and placed it in front of Black Treasure. Happy, Black Treasure hummed twice, opened its mouth wide, and buried itself in the bowl to eat.
Aunt Zhou cut the flying dragon into small pieces and put them into boiling water. Soon, a delicious aroma filled the air. After adding a pinch of salt for flavor, she waited for the clear broth to boil before serving it in a bowl.
The clear soup released an irresistible fragrance with steam rising continuously. Yezhi blew away the heat and took a sip; it was incredibly fresh! She had never tasted anything so delicious before—it felt almost otherworldly. Aunt Zhou added a piece of flying dragon meat to Yezhi's bowl. "Girl, eat more! This is something only emperors used to eat."
Yezhi also picked up a piece and placed it in Aunt Zhou's bowl. "Aunt, you should eat more too!" Aunt Zhou nodded with a smile, feeling sweet as honey inside; her girl was talented in both literature and martial arts—a true gem!
As Yezhi savored the tender white meat of the flying dragon, she felt increasingly proud of her good fortune. She wondered if she could raise some herself in a forest. She decided to discuss it with Village Uncle tomorrow.
