"Ha ha~ Sister, you finally made it to Zhoujiatun!"
"Sister Ye!"
The two embraced each other without a care in the world, their laughter ringing through the air. Lin Haitao coughed lightly, and Yezhi pretended to be reserved as she glanced at him, pulling Zhang Ling inside.
Black Treasure tilted its head, observing the beautiful sister that "Mama Bear" brought in. "Hehe~ So this is Black Treasure!” Before Yezhi could respond, Zhang Ling gave Black Treasure a solid hug. Black Treasure opened its mouth wide, clearly delighted; it loved such a warm and enthusiastic sister!
Niu Niu saw her old friend Lin Haitao and excitedly rushed towards him, expressing her affection by messing up his hair. With both hands occupied, Lin Haitao could only endure the messy hair with a wry smile. One Egg, along with the group of kids, shrugged their shoulders and stifled their laughter, while Yezhi simply laughed out loud.
Meanwhile, Yu Jianhua, who was teaching Wolf Child how to write inside, came forward to take the luggage from Lin Haitao. "Little Lin, Reiko, you finally made it!"
"Elder Brother Yu, how have you been?" Lin Haitao asked with concern.
"I'm doing great! I can even go up the mountain to hunt tigers now!"
Luo Fengjuan shot a glare at Yu Jianhua, urging, "Stop standing there and come inside!"
One Egg and the group of kids surrounded Lin Haitao, chattering away, leaving no room for her to interject.
Wolf Child, excitedly pulling on Zhang Ling, had her pick up the chubby little one. "Zhang Ling, it's been a while since I last saw you; you've turned into a little piggy!"
Wolf Child pointed at the little one. "Pig! Fat pig!" Black Treasure clapped its chubby paws as if in agreement with Wolf Child. Zhang Ling laughed heartily, thinking that Black Treasure was just too adorable; no wonder her brother couldn't stop thinking about it.
At that moment, little Fan wrinkled his nose and loudly protested, "I'm not a little fat pig! No way!"
"Sister!" Yezhi handed over some cool boiled water.
To be honest, Zhang Ling was indeed thirsty at that moment; she gulped down the entire bottle of water. "Sister Ye, this water is really sweet!"
Yezhi beamed with pride. "Isn't it sweet? Our Zhoujiatun has great mountains and good water. If you stay here for ten days or half a month, I guarantee you won't want to leave!"
Zhang Ling said, "It's good that I can only stay for two days! Otherwise, I wouldn't be able to leave!"
"Only two days?" Yezhi felt a bit disappointed; how could one possibly see all the beautiful sights of Zhoujiatun in such a short time?
"Sister Ye, I still have students to teach! I can't stay longer!" Zhang Ling had become a rural teacher. When assignments were made, Yezhi had also been assigned to be a teacher in Wuren Village, but she was not interested in that path. The consequence of her refusal was being placed on the Education Committee's blacklist, making it difficult for her to become a teacher in the future.
...
The news of Lin Haitao and Zhang Ling's arrival quickly spread throughout Zhoujiatun, and the villagers warmly gathered at her home.
Zhang Ling was astonished; she finally witnessed the hospitality of the Zhou Family Village residents.
"Wow, so this is Comrade Zhang's sister! She's really pretty. By the way, how is your family?"
"My family is doing well!"
Aunt Ren Er touched Zhang Ling's hand and said, "City girls are just different from us. Look at this delicate skin..." Zhang Ling's face turned red from the compliments.
Lin Haitao was pulled into conversations by a group of villagers of all ages, while Aunt Zhou watched him with a smile, growing more and more satisfied. After enough watching, she went to the yard, sharpening her knife for the chickens. In addition to the must-have dish of Little Chicken Stew with Mushrooms for entertaining guests, Aunt Zhou prepared a whole table of dishes showcasing her culinary skills.
Yezhi, who hadn't tasted meat in half a month, was tempted by the aroma and exclaimed, "Aunt, when will dinner be ready?"
Aunt Zhou replied, "Soon," and then started shooing her away. "Don't linger in the kitchen; go keep the guests company!"
Yezhi thought to herself: there are so many people in the house; they don't need her company.
It wasn't until nightfall that the villagers finally left her home. At Aunt Zhou's command, Wolf Child and Xiao Fan happily ran to serve the dishes. Zhang Ling couldn't sit still either and went to help.
"Xiao Lin, come have a chicken leg!"
"Reiko, come try our mountain Hazel Mushrooms!"
Aunt Zhou greeted warmly while expressing her dissatisfaction with Yezhi's behavior, subtly hinting that she should serve Xiaobinzi some food.
Yezhi pretended not to see and happily savored her meal, which infuriated Aunt Zhou, who then gave her a hard tug.
After finishing the meal, Aunt Zhou was still restless. "Daughter, a Hundred Steps Walk after dinner can add years to your life. You said so yourself. Tonight, the moon is full; go out with Xiaolin for a walk and enjoy the moonlight."
Upon hearing Aunt Zhou's words, Yezhi rolled her eyes. "It's not even the fifteenth yet! Where's the moon?" However, feeling stuffed, she decided it was time for a stroll and called out to Zhang Ling, "Let's go take a look at the scenery of Zhoujiatun!"
Zhang Ling shook her head knowingly. "I don't want to be a third wheel!" Aunt Zhou looked at Zhang Ling appreciatively, while Yu Jianhua and his wife smiled as they held back Xiaofan and Wolf Child, who were eager to join.
Since it was hard to refuse such hospitality, Yezhi waved at Xiaobinzi. "Let's go!"
As soon as they stepped out of the courtyard, Xiaobinzi firmly grasped her hand. After a brief struggle, she relented.
The two walked hand in hand along the dark mountain path. Perhaps silence spoke louder than words at that moment; neither of them said anything. Yezhi initially intended to take a quick loop before heading home but unknowingly led Xiaobinzi up the wild hillside behind her house.
The wind on the mountain was strong, tousling her loose hair. Xiaobinzi stepped in front of her to block the wind, warming her heart. She playfully scolded him, "You fool!"
Lin Haitao turned around and looked at Yezhi seriously, as if he could never get enough of looking at her.
Yezhi teased, "Still not satisfied? It really is a mistake to be this beautiful!"
Laughter echoed in the wind as Yezhi tugged at Xiaobinzi's collar and pressed him for an answer. "Tell me, did you miss me?"
Lin Haitao's dark eyes shifted slightly as he gently asked, "What about you?"
Yezhi thought to herself: Tsk~ Is he even a man? Why is he being so indirect?
Unaware of Yezhi's thoughts, Lin Haitao gazed at her with longing, waiting for an answer! Yezhi, somewhat oblivious, felt that Xiaobinzi’s intense gaze was a challenge to see who could keep their eyes open wider and longer; she widened her eyes defiantly.
Yet… strangely enough, even in the darkness, she could catch a glimpse of herself reflected in Xiaobinzi's eyes. The distance between them gradually closed.
Maya was the one to blame for the trouble (where is the moon!), as she suddenly approached Xiaobinzi with a wildness and bit his lips fiercely.
The first kiss came quickly and left just as fast.
Lin Haitao reflexively pushed Yezhi, causing her to almost fall to the ground.
Angry and embarrassed, Yezhi shouted, "Didn’t I say that you can't push when kissing your girlfriend? Damn it, Xiaobinzi, you pushed me again!"
Lin Haitao's ears turned red, and he was at a loss for words. Yezhi continued to wail, "My first kiss, my 'first kiss' is ruined just like that! You owe me..." All sounds vanished between their lips.
Realizing the consequences, Yezhi covered her mouth and went inside.
"Back already?" Aunt Zhou looked at her eagerly.
Sister Luo put down her needlework and teased, "Where did you go for a romantic stroll?"
Yezhi lowered her head and mumbled, "Nowhere, just wandered around!" After saying that, she climbed onto the bed and buried her head under the covers. Aunt Zhou and Sister Luo thought she was shy and exchanged smiles, leaving her undisturbed.
...
Yezhi felt regretful as she stared at the screen while lightly touching her lips.
Xiao Fang looked at her curiously and asked, "Master, why are your lips swollen like two sausages?" She couldn't be bothered to explain these inappropriate matters to Xiao Fang; she only thought resentfully: men really shouldn't be teased.
