"Admiral, what's wrong?"
"I don't have that much money," Chuyang whispered into Lexington's ear.
"I do," Lexington said, placing her hand on Chuyang's lips to stop him from speaking further. "Admiral, am I not your Fleet Girl? Am I not your Wedding Ship?"
"You are," Chuyang thought for a moment, a genuine smile appearing on his face. "Then let's buy all those clothes we just looked at."
Perhaps it was the influence of his masculine pride! Even though he had lived in this world for three years and learned a lot about interacting with Fleet Girls at Rongcheng Naval Academy, he had never adjusted his mindset. Just now, Chuyang realized something important. To put it simply, without Fleet Girls, he would never have become an Admiral. It was precisely because of the existence of Fleet Girls that they, as Admirals, could live lives far superior to ordinary people and gain significant social status. One could say that everything an Admiral has is granted by the Fleet Girls; without them, they are nothing. Based on these points, Admirals are inherently dependent on Fleet Girls; there is no right or wrong in this. His ridiculous pride was merely a form of self-deception.
Thus, the relationship between Admirals and Fleet Girls is inherently intertwined. Moreover, since Lexington is his Wedding Ship, if he continued to insist on maintaining distance, it would be overly pretentious and would only make Lexington feel like he considered himself an outsider rather than an Admiral who could rely on and share life and death with her.
From the perspective of outsiders, this is indeed how they view Admirals and Fleet Girls. So when it came time to check out, seeing Lexington pull out stacks of cash from her handbag to pay, the cashier showed no surprise; it seemed perfectly natural. However, if it were an ordinary couple doing the same, it would likely invite gossip about the man being a freeloader.
Chuyang had long been trapped in a misunderstanding, always feeling that spending his Fleet Girls' money suggested he was living off them. In reality, no one in this world views Admirals that way; even Rongcheng Naval Academy's first lesson for them was essentially how to better enjoy the support of their own Fleet Girls.
Chuyang had always held reservations about this perspective, but fortunately, realizing it now isn't too late.
In the following itinerary, Lexington bought several more outfits for Chuyang and also picked up some intimate clothing for little Kiddo. The three of them then carried their bags into a Jewelry Store.
"Welcome! How can I assist you today?" As soon as they stepped inside the store, a Saleswoman approached them.
"We would like to see a wedding ring," Chuyang said.
"Please follow me," the Sales Assistant replied, leading Chuyang and Lexington to a counter at the back. Pointing to a prominently displayed ring, she introduced, "Sir, Madam, this is the largest diamond ring in our store, weighing 3 carats. Its color reaches the highest standard of D grade (colorless), and its clarity is also at the top level of FL flawless... The platinum band itself was designed by one of Europe's top designers..."
"How much does it cost?" Chuyang asked.
"It's not expensive. If you purchase it now, we have a promotion offering a 20% discount, so it comes to just under two million," the Saleswoman said.
Those who work as salespeople in such stores usually have a keen eye; they can gauge a person's wealth based on their attire and tailor their sales pitch accordingly. Otherwise, trying to sell a ten-thousand-dollar ring to someone with only twenty thousand in assets would only embarrass the customer.
The reason she immediately introduced such an expensive ring to Chuyang and Lexington was due to Chuyang's status. In the eyes of most ordinary people in this world, an Admiral is synonymous with wealth. Of course, if it were only based on that, the Saleswoman wouldn't dare to introduce such an expensive item. But considering that Lexington was wearing an outfit of considerable value! At first glance, it looked like an ordinary suit. However, it was actually one of the most luxurious women's outfits in the world, handcrafted and a top-tier luxury item. Just that outfit alone cost two hundred thousand, not including the handbag Lexington was carrying or the shoes on her feet. To put it simply, everything on Lexington—from her clothes and shoes to her handbag and necklace—was of high value; you wouldn't be able to assemble that entire look for less than five hundred thousand.
And just as the salesperson had assessed, everything Lexington wore was indeed quite valuable. But that didn't mean she was vain; on the contrary, she was very good at managing her household and understood how to live well; otherwise, she wouldn't have earned the title of "Madam."
However, since Lexington felt abandoned by the Admiral in the past, she had somewhat given up on herself. Yet as a Fleet Girl, no matter what happened, she would never do anything to dishonor the Admiral. So she focused on practical aspects of life. For example, there was a Black-Haired Lady who worked as a taster at a world-renowned culinary institution. Over the past two years, Lexington had been living a particularly petty bourgeois lifestyle, investing most of her earnings into this.
In the end, however, the salesperson's pitch failed. Chuyang and Lexington chose two platinum couple rings worth less than five thousand in total. For Lexington, it didn't matter whether the ring was prestigious or how much it cost; as long as it was given by the Admiral, she would happily wear even a plastic ring worth just a few dollars.
"Not bad! You made over twenty thousand in sales from this transaction; that means about three thousand in commission. You should treat us tonight," another short-haired Sales Assistant approached the long-haired salesperson who had attended to Chuyang after they left.
"What do you mean 'not bad'? Are you mocking me? Isn't it said that Admirals are very wealthy? Why would he buy such rings and buy six at once?" The long-haired salesperson seemed frustrated.
"Come on! Getting a bargain while acting coy—Admirals are indeed wealthy, but most of them are quite stingy."
"How to say it?"
"A friend of mine has an older brother who is an Admiral. She said that her brother seems to invest all his money and resources in building Fleet Girls. Not only does he spend extravagantly, but even in daily life, they sometimes need financial support from their family... It seems that most Admirals are like this, so when you encounter such customers in the future, don't expect to get everything at once..."
