As soon as Fei Hu finished speaking, a rustling sound came from the forest, and several wild wolves, neither black nor white, sprang out. Their eyes glinted with ferocity as they paced along the edge of the trees near the cave entrance, looking somewhat intimidating.
Yingzi quickly grabbed a machete and stood beside Fei Hu, whispering, "What should we do?"
Fei Hu shook his head, signaling everyone to remain silent and to step back. Ye Xiaofei looked guilty, finally understanding why Fei Hu was angry about her roasting the wild boar.
At times like this, it was crucial to stay calm. Fei Hu picked up the binoculars hanging on his chest and peered into the forest. His expression changed instantly as he crouched down and said softly, "This is bad; it seems there’s a large pack inside the woods."
"What? More? There are already about seven or eight here; how can there be so many wolves? What’s going on?" Ye Cheng exclaimed in terror and confusion.
Fei Hu whispered, "It looks like this pack of wolves has been driven here by someone. I saw a few injured ones licking their wounds through the binoculars, and there are also several wolf cubs nearby."
"These wolves are the most dangerous; they can be extremely vicious when fighting for survival. We need to be careful and definitely shouldn’t provoke them," Ye Cheng said in a low voice.
Fei Hu nodded, snatched the machete from Yingzi's hand, jumped out of the cave entrance. As soon as the wild wolves saw someone leap out, they immediately shrank back, their fur standing on end as they bared their teeth and growled softly, looking ready to pounce at any moment. The three people inside the cave were terrified; Yingzi hurriedly grabbed another machete and crouched at the entrance, prepared to charge out at any moment.
Fei Hu approached one of the wild boar carcasses and quickly chopped it into several small pieces with his machete. He then tossed them in front of the wolves. At first, the wolves retreated in fear, but when they realized it was boar meat, they wasted no time rushing forward to grab it. Two wolves that didn’t get any meat anxiously darted around at the edge of the forest, reluctant to leave. Fei Hu had no choice but to divide another piece of meat he had left into two halves and throw them out.
Seeing this, the two wolves hurriedly picked up the meat and howled twice at Fei Hu, their sounds echoing eerily through the woods.
Fei Hu looked through the binoculars again and said, "For now, it’s fine; they took the meat back to feed the injured wolves. I never expected that even wild wolves could show compassion."
"Ha ha! Child, in fact, every fierce animal has a kind side towards its own kind. This lone wolf is not scary; what’s frightening is the wolf pack. If they unite, even tigers would have to hide from them," Ye Cheng said with a shake of his head, feeling contemplative.
Fei Hu couldn't help but glance at Ye Cheng a couple more times. What kind of identity did this old man have? Why was he always being hunted, and what was the relationship between him and his granddaughter, who was the Executive President of Shengwei Group? What about Ye Wei and her disdain for Ye Xiaofei? They both shared the surname Ye. Fei Hu's mind was in a jumble; he hadn't had time to consider these questions in recent days, but Ye Cheng's extraordinary words suddenly connected everything in his mind.
"Hey! Buddy! Is there still time to daydream? What should we do next? I'm so worried; I never expected things to escalate like this. Are we really going to wait here to die? I can't accept that!" Yingzi said as she patted Fei Hu on the shoulder, signaling him to sit down.
Fei Hu smiled and said, "I don't want that either; I haven't even married yet." He then sat down beside Yingzi. On the other side, Ye Xiaofei turned her face away in anger at the closeness between Fei Hu and Yingzi. None of this escaped Ye Cheng's notice.
Yingzi suddenly became serious and quietly said to Fei Hu, "I'm really sorry this time. Things have developed beyond my control. If I had known it would turn out like this, I shouldn't have let you come. Why don't you leave first?"
"Are you kidding? We should discuss our next course of action! But I want to ask you a few questions, and you must answer me truthfully; otherwise, if I die, it will remain a mystery," Fei Hu said with a smile.
Yingzi punched Fei Hu lightly and whispered angrily, "What do you mean by dying? You can't say anything auspicious! Just ask what you want; I promise to tell you everything."
"May I ask what identity this old man has? Also, what is his relationship with Ye Xiaofei, Ye Wei, and Ye Wu? Why would someone go to such great lengths to put him in danger? There must be a reason," Fei Hu finally voiced all his doubts and felt much lighter afterward.
Yingzi drew patterns on the ground with a knife, pondering for a while before saying, "Actually, I didn't want you to know these things because the more you know, the worse it is for you. Since you're asking me today, it means you've made up your mind. The current situation is not good for us at all; you can't just blindly risk your life for us!"
Suddenly, Yingzi stopped speaking. It turned out that Ye Cheng had unknowingly stood behind Fei Hu. He chuckled and said, "You didn't know any of this? Let me tell you: my name is Ye Cheng, the notorious leader of the Dragon Tiger Gang in A City. Ye Wei and Ye Wu are my two sons; Xiaofei is my eldest son's child. Unfortunately, they are all gone now. The people hunting me might very well be hired by those two scoundrels."
"What? You are Ye Cheng, the big boss of the Dragon Tiger Gang?" Fei Hu exclaimed as he stood up, staring wide-eyed at Ye Cheng as if he couldn't believe it.
Ye Cheng looked at Fei Hu's astonished expression and laughed, "What's wrong? Do I not look like it? Am I not worthy of being the big boss of the Dragon Tiger Gang?"
"Not at all," Fei Hu stammered, unsure of what to say. Because of this old man, he had nearly been killed. Countless times, he had wanted to confront Ye Cheng about this matter, but first, he had no way to find him, and second, he feared that revealing himself would attract the attention of those hunting him. So this matter had remained bottled up in his heart. Unexpectedly, the person was now right beside him, and he hadn't even realized it. Fei Hu slowly recalled the day it happened and remembered that the old man he saved that day was none other than Ye Cheng.
Fei Hu was extremely pleased. Just as he was about to remove the eye mask to let Ye Cheng recognize who he was, Ye Xiaofei walked over and chuckled, "What’s wrong with you? Is this how you look at people? I can understand your expression when looking at a beautiful woman, but this is my grandfather. Is he really that good-looking?" Ye Xiaofei wore a disdainful expression.
Fei Hu retracted his hand that had reached back to his head. Once the eye mask was removed, the first person who wouldn't let him off would be Ye Xiaofei. If she brought up what happened in the elevator with Yingzi and Ye Cheng present, Fei Hu felt he couldn't afford to lose face. It would be better to wait for a moment when Ye Xiaofei wasn't around to talk with the old man; after all, he still had a pill belonging to the old man.
"It seems Grandpa's reputation is well-known in City A; even our heroic figure here is shocked," Yingzi said as she approached and nudged the dazed Fei Hu, helping him out of his predicament.
Fei Hu awkwardly touched his hair and asked Ye Cheng, "You said Ye Wei and Ye Wu are your sons. Why would they hire someone to harm you? Isn't that incredibly unfilial? Aren't you afraid of being laughed at by the world?"
"Hahaha, laugh at me? They already have murderous intent; why would they care about being laughed at? It's just because I won't give them the position of Big Brother that I've brought this calamity upon myself," Ye Cheng said, his expression darkening as he spoke, clearly heartbroken.
So it was all about fighting for the position of Big Brother of the Dragon Tiger Gang; this commotion seemed a bit too much! A family actually resorting to violence against each other—Fei Hu had read ancient texts about patricide for power but never thought that even a gang leader's position could lead to murder. It seemed this world was indeed perilous.
At that moment, there was a commotion on the mountain peak across from them; it felt like someone was running through the woods. Soon after, screams were heard along with gunfire, creating chaos. Then came the howling of wolves as if calling for their pack.
Upon hearing this, Fei Hu's expression changed drastically. He stepped forward to the cave entrance and picked up binoculars to observe the mountain peak closely. Yingzi approached with a machete in hand and anxiously asked, "What's wrong? What happened now?"
"These bastards are actually teaming up with a wolf pack; it looks like there's going to be a show," Fei Hu said while adjusting the binoculars as he spoke. Ye Cheng and Ye Xiaofei also quietly approached.
"They dare to shoot at the wolf pack? This will definitely bring danger right to us! Quickly, light two more fires by the cave entrance; wolves are afraid of fire!" Fei Hu suddenly shouted at Yingzi; it seemed things were getting serious.
