After resting for a while, Ye Cheng finally recovered and smiled, "You're really strong; you caught up with us so quickly. How did it go? You didn't come back empty-handed, did you?"
"Of course not! There were so many wild chickens. This person has excellent archery skills; he shot five arrows and hit five wild chickens. His skills could represent the national team in the Olympics," Ye Xiaofei said happily, recounting the entire process of Fei Hu shooting the wild chickens, leaving Ye Cheng looking pleasantly surprised.
Fei Hu showed no signs of pride. He stood up, raised his binoculars, and exclaimed, "Come quickly! There's a wolf pack; they've actually attacked the entrance of the cave where we stayed!"
Upon hearing this, everyone felt both nervous and excited and gathered around. Ye Cheng took the binoculars from Fei Hu's hands, trembling as he took a quick glance before nervously handing them to Yingzi. The old man walked while saying, "It's incredible! If we had been even a moment later or if it weren't for these wild chickens, we might have already been eaten by the wolves."
Yingzi handed the binoculars to Ye Xiaofei, who refused to take them and shook her head, saying, "I don't want to see. Just tell me what you saw."
"The wolves are starting to kill each other over the wild chickens," Yingzi replied briefly without elaborating on the scene, but Ye Xiaofei didn't ask any further questions; it was as if she could see it herself.
The sun had not yet set when Fei Hu and his group exited the mountain pass. It seemed that the fat man had kept his word; apart from the trash they had left behind, there was not a single person in sight.
Just as Fei Hu was contemplating what to do next, a voice suddenly came from across the fields: "Hey! Are you guys heading back? Your car is in my yard."
Fei Hu raised his binoculars and realized that it was the middle-aged man who had helped them tow their car a few days ago. Fei Hu had been worried about how to find him, but unexpectedly, he had come looking for them instead. Fei Hu truly admired his sharp eyesight; he could see clearly from such a distance.
Ye Cheng laughed and said, "Our bad luck has passed. Just as I was thinking about him, he showed up." Everyone felt very happy upon hearing this; after all these days of feeling like they wouldn't make it back, standing here alive felt really good.
In a little while, the middle-aged man reached the riverbank and shouted, "Hurry up and take your car away! I have to send someone every day to keep an eye on it; it's really annoying!"
Fei Hu found this puzzling; leaving the car in the yard should be fine. What was there to watch? It seemed a bit excessive.
There was no bridge over the river; they could only wade through it. Fei Hu took off his shoes and stepped into the water first. Just as he bent down, Ye Xiaofei climbed up beside him and smiled, "Thanks for your help. When we get back to City A, I'll treat you well."
Fei Hu couldn't help but ask, "How do you plan to treat me?"
Ye Xiaofei laughed on his back and said, "It's up to you! As long as you can bring it up, I can do it."
Fei Hu thought to himself, you just keep boasting! If I say I want to sleep with you, can you do that too? With this thought, Fei Hu couldn't help but chuckle to himself.
After putting down Ye Xiaofei, Fei Hu carried Ye Cheng back. When he turned around, he saw Yingzi standing by the riverbank smiling at him, showing no intention of getting into the water. Fei Hu thought, these beauties just know how to take advantage of me; let them take advantage, I'm happy as long as it's beautiful women.
As soon as Fei Hu returned to the shore, Yingzi jumped up and really treated him like a wooden horse. She laughed and said, "I want to enjoy being carried too. You know what? It's really comfortable lying on your back."
"Then don't get down; I'll carry you all the way to the village so everyone can see," Fei Hu said, laughing first.
Yingzi tapped him on the head and said, "Look at you getting all pleased with yourself; do you want to be like Zhu Bajie carrying his wife?" While they were talking, Fei Hu set Yingzi down on the riverbank and sat on a rock to put on his shoes.
"Uncle, you won't be watching us here every day, will you? What a coincidence running into you," Yingzi asked the middle-aged man with a smile.
The middle-aged man looked displeased and said, "If I had known earlier, no amount of money would have made me agree to tow your car; this is just asking for trouble."
Seeing that the middle-aged man was unhappy, Ye Cheng smiled and asked, "What's wrong, brother? Tell us what's going on that's making you so angry."
"Oh! The day you guys got into a fight with those yellow-haired ones and left, I called a few people to help tow your car out of the river. I didn't expect those people wouldn't let us tow it and even acted tough. That made me furious. I had already taken your money; if I didn't get the car back, that would be too unreasonable. So I went back to the village and called over two hundred strong laborers from the village. Once they saw them, they finally behaved. They just left not long ago," the middle-aged man said while shaking his head helplessly.
That day was critical; no one had anticipated this aspect. It was truly unexpected how reliable these country folks could be. It seems that Yingzi's money was indeed worth it; if they had really gotten their car taken away by them, things would have been even more troublesome.
"Hahaha, good job, brother! You handled this well. Later when we go back, we'll give you some money for cigarettes as thanks for helping us tow the car," Ye Cheng said happily while patting the middle-aged man's shoulder.
Once this was said, the middle-aged man gradually stopped being angry. He asked in surprise, "Where have you all been these past few days? The wolves in the back mountain have been howling fiercely; our villagers are afraid to cross the river."
Yingzi smiled and said, "We're professional wolf catchers; when wolves see us, they run away. So there's nothing to worry about."
The middle-aged man looked at the group and shook his head, not believing it at all. There were four people in total, two of whom were women, and among the two men, one had already gone gray while the other was a strong man. What kind of wolves could they catch? They might not even be able to catch wolf cubs.
As he spoke, they arrived at the middle-aged man's home. In the yard, two cars were parked side by side, polished to look brand new. The middle-aged man smiled and said, "We have someone in our village who knows about cars. He told me that these cars are high-end items, worth over a million for the two. I was shocked at the time. What if someone steals them? I can't afford to compensate for that, so I went out to work during the day and left my wife at home specifically to watch over your cars."
The middle-aged man's sincerity was touching. Ye Cheng handed Yingzi a few hundred yuan to give to the middle-aged man. After some small talk, they drove out of the village.
Fei Hu and Ye Xiaofei shared a car. Originally, Fei Hu wanted to drive, but Ye Xiaofei said, "You've been exhausted these days. Let me drive; you can rest in the car! I'll drive slowly to make sure you can sleep."
Upon hearing this, Fei Hu felt warmth in his heart. He leaned back against the seat; the fatigue and anxiety of recent days suddenly washed over him. As the car bumped along the mountain road, Fei Hu actually fell asleep. Ye Xiaofei drove while stealing glances at Fei Hu. The strength emanating from him was overwhelming; she could hardly control her feelings. His chest and back were equally broad, providing an unspoken sense of safety whenever one leaned against him.
The sun had dipped behind the mountains, casting a reddish glow across half the sky as the two cars slowly made their way along the mountain road. Those who had just returned from the brink of death felt differently. Suddenly, there was a sharp screech from the BMW ahead, and Yingzi managed to stop her car just in time to avoid crashing into it.
Opening the car door, Yingzi and Ye Cheng hurriedly got out and rushed to the front car. Ye Cheng anxiously asked, "What happened, Xiaofei? What’s going on?"
Ye Xiaofei's face was streaked with tears while Fei Hu sat beside her seemingly unfazed, yawning as if nothing was wrong. He didn't understand what had happened.
Suddenly, Ye Xiaofei flung open the car door and rushed out, pointing at Yingzi's face as she shouted, "Why are you all looking at me? Why?" Her voice echoed mournfully along the evening mountain road.
Fei Hu stepped down and asked in confusion, "Everything was fine; what happened?"
Yingzi's expression changed drastically upon realizing that Ye Xiaofei was angry about this situation.
