Fei Hu became angry as he spoke, saying, "What is this? I put in a good word, and you don't appreciate it, treating me like I'm ungrateful." Suddenly, he glared and shouted at Sister Lian, "Believe it or not, it's none of my business." With that, he grabbed his phone and walked away.
"Wait a minute, why are you getting so angry? I never said I didn't believe you," Sister Lian suddenly called out.
This woman was something else; she didn't believe him when he spoke kindly, but once he got angry, she believed him. Fei Hu turned around with a cold smile and asked, "What? Do you want to shake hands before I leave?"
Sister Lian suddenly shouted into the room, "Xiao Qi, tell them that we won't be moving tonight; we'll talk about it tomorrow! I'll see this kind-hearted person off; it's too dark outside."
"Got it, Sister Lian," Xiao Qi replied cheerfully, sticking her head out to make a face at Fei Hu.
Fei Hu shrugged and asked Sister Lian, "Are you really going to see me off?"
"Yes! It's dark outside, and you haven't walked this corridor before; it's very unsafe. I'll walk you down as a thank you for your kindness," Sister Lian said as she walked ahead.
As they passed a door where the light was gone, it became really dark. Fei Hu listened to Sister Lian's footsteps and gently followed her. As they walked, Sister Lian quietly asked, "What do you do? You have some skills! Where did you learn them?"
Fei Hu sighed deeply and said, "Better not to say; talking about it only brings tears."
The two reached the window at the stairwell where light streamed in from outside and stopped. Sister Lian smiled and said, "You look like a carefree person. To be honest, your gaze towards women is quite intense, but your heart isn't bad; you know how to show compassion. I can't figure you out. You have good skills and look decent too. When I ask what you do, you say it's all tears. Can you tell me if you're worse off than us?"
Fei Hu didn't expect that after almost fighting earlier, they were now chatting. It seemed they still had common ground. He paused for a moment and said, "What's the use of having skills? I'm just wasting my days guarding the entrance."
"Oh! You're a security guard! That job isn't bad; at least it's not dirty or tiring. It might get a bit boring every day since you have to listen to your boss's orders. That's what makes you unhappy, right?" Sister Lian smiled as she spoke; it felt like she had walked through Fei Hu's mind.
In the night, Fei Hu couldn't help but glance at Sister Lian a couple more times. Although he couldn't see clearly, he still thought her smile was beautiful. Fei Hu remained silent as if tacitly agreeing. After thinking for a moment, he asked Sister Lian in return, "What's going on with you all? You all look like flowers; why do this kind of work? Especially you; it's hard to understand."
"Hmph! Do you think I want this? Ever since I was sensible, I've been following an old man around to steal. For over twenty years, this is how I've lived. If I don't do this, what else can I do? I'd just be a useless person. To survive, unless it's like them, selling smiles to men or even selling sleep, aside from that, we can't do anything," Sister Lian said, gazing out of the window with a glimmer of light, looking far and wide.
Fei Hu asked softly, "Doesn't your family care about you?"
"They do care. I've never known who my parents are since I was little. When the old man died, he told me I was an orphan. As for how my parents died, he didn't know either," Sister Lian said very calmly, as if she had grown accustomed to it.
Fei Hu suddenly felt a bit sad. Why are there so many orphans in this world? He began to resent the unfairness of life. Seeing that Fei Hu had fallen silent, Sister Lian smiled and said, "Sorry for sharing these useless things with you. You should go now! If you stay out too long, your girlfriend will call the police."
Fei Hu thought about it and realized that if he returned late and Fat Girl couldn't wait and called the police, it would be a problem. He hurriedly said, "Alright, but you need to be strong. It's best to change your way of life. Actually, I'm like you; I've never seen my parents either."
"Oh really? It seems we share the same plight. Can we be friends? If there's a chance, we can have a good chat. If it's inconvenient, then forget it," Sister Lian said, extending her hand generously.
In fact, Fei Hu thought the same way. As he shook Sister Lian's hand, he joked, "Aren't you afraid that this big pervert will eat up this beautiful lady?"
"I'm not afraid; you're a good person among perverts. Lust is just a man's nature," Sister Lian laughed happily. In the end, they exchanged phone numbers and waved goodbye in the night.
Fei Hu jogged back. When he reached the entrance of the rental house alley, he saw Fat Girl and the landlady standing there from afar. Fei Hu inwardly cursed; this Fat Girl really couldn't handle things well. If the landlady found out about this, it would be a disaster.
When Fat Girl saw Fei Hu return, she hurried over to him. She first looked him up and down and then asked, "Are you alright? If you couldn't catch him, it's fine; I can manage without it."
Just as Fei Hu was about to explain that he had retrieved his phone, the landlady rushed over in two steps and shouted angrily, "You dead Long Hair! Who do you think you are? Taking my daughter to buy some useless phone! Now look what happened; over a thousand bucks just went down the drain! You better compensate me at least half; otherwise, get out! I'm not renting to you anymore!"
"Mom, what are you talking about? This has nothing to do with Fei Hu! I had it in my hand when someone snatched it away! Stop embarrassing yourself here; this is none of your business! My money is mine to spend however I want!" Fat Girl snapped back at her mother without any politeness.
Seeing her daughter talk back like this was unacceptable for the landlady. Losing a phone and still being so arrogant? She couldn't let that slide. So she bent down and took off her shoes to hit Fat Girl on the head while scolding her: "You ungrateful wretch! Not even grown up yet and already denying your mother! Always talking about Fei Hu—I'm embarrassed for you! Tomorrow, you're going back home!"
Fat Girl was dodging while retorting, "I'm not going back. I'll find a job myself. From now on, I have nothing to do with you." This made Landlady so furious that she ran even faster. Despite Fat Girl being plump, she was quite agile. After such a long chase, Landlady couldn't catch her as she dodged and hid, turning the alley into a game of cat and mouse.
After watching for a while, Fei Hu saw that Fat Girl was exhausting Landlady, and finally shouted, "Stop messing around! The phone has been retrieved. Don't be embarrassed, really."
Upon hearing this, Landlady hurriedly dropped her shoes and rushed over without even putting them on properly. She anxiously asked, "Is it true? You can't be joking about this."
Seeing her greedy expression, Fei Hu couldn't help but roll his eyes and said, "It's true. Why would I lie to you? You must have eaten too much." He then pulled out the new phone and waved it in the air.
When Landlady saw it, she reached out to grab it, but Fei Hu pulled back just in time. She missed and panted heavily, saying, "Give it to me! You dead Long Hair, are you playing with me? Be careful or I'll break your legs." As she spoke, she pretended to take off her shoes again.
Noticing this, Fei Hu quickly stepped over to Fat Girl, extended his hand, and said, "Here you go, returning what belongs to you. I take my leave." With that, he turned and walked towards the alley exit. Behind him came the sounds of Landlady and Fat Girl bickering over the phone. Fei Hu shook his head helplessly; he had learned about Landlady's greed.
Checking the time, he realized that after all the commotion, several hours had passed and it was almost ten o'clock. He wondered if Ye Xiaofei was still waiting for him and suddenly remembered that his phone had been off.
Once he turned it on, he called her. The call connected, and Ye Xiaofei sounded unusually polite as she said with a smile, "Are you done? Hurry up and come over!" Upon hearing this, Fei Hu felt relieved but also sensed something was off; this wasn't typical of Ye Xiaofei. If she had waited so long without scolding him half to death, she wouldn't be called Ye Xiaofei.
Not daring to delay any longer, Fei Hu hailed a Rental car. The place wasn't far from where he lived; he arrived at the starting fare. The establishment was called Yipinju, grand and elegant—just by looking at its exterior, one could tell it wasn't a place for ordinary folks.
As soon as he went upstairs, a young and beautiful lady approached him with a smile. "You must be Mr. Fei! Please follow me," she said. It was quite remarkable; the staff here seemed to read fortunes as well. Without him saying anything, she already knew his surname and where he wanted to go.
Just as Fei Hu was pondering this mystery, the beautiful lady said, "We've arrived, sir. Please come in," as she effortlessly opened the door for him.
