Darkness, pain, a thought suddenly surged through Fei Hu's mind. He slowly opened his eyes to a world of white: a white ceiling, white lights, and white walls. Could this be the legendary Yama King's Hall? Where were Ox-Head and Horse-Face? He didn't see any little ghosts either. Could it be that the Yama King had gone home for the day?
Fei Hu was puzzled by the strange thoughts in his head. Perhaps he had listened to too many ghost stories from his grandfather when he was young. The moment he thought of his grandfather, tears streamed down his face. He hadn't had the chance to honor his grandfather yet, and now he had left first. He had witnessed the tragic scene of an elderly person sending off a younger one; would his grandfather be saddened because of him?
"Hey! He's awake!" A woman's voice came through, startling Fei Hu. Had he entered the wrong place? Why was there a woman's voice? He wanted to look up and see if this woman was as terrifying as those in movies, but his neck hurt so much that moving was difficult. His grandfather had said that once a person died, they would feel no pain. So why did it still hurt? Moreover, wasn't there supposed to be no electric lights in the underworld? Fei Hu felt confused; he clearly remembered a blade striking his neck and felt the pain. Did that mean he hadn't died?
"Sister Sun, come here for a moment; he seems to be waking up," another woman's voice called out. How many women were there here? Fei Hu's neck hurt so much that he couldn't move at all. He wanted to see but couldn't; was he alive or dead? To figure this out, Fei Hu exerted all his strength.
First came a familiar scent of perfume, followed by a beautiful face appearing before him. Wasn't this Sun Li? Had he really met his end? Fei Hu moved his lips slightly, and Sun Li leaned in closer to listen. With a weak voice, he asked, "Did you die too?" Upon hearing this, Sun Li's eyes widened in surprise. Fei Hu had no idea what he had said wrong.
"Sister Sun, what did he say to make you so surprised?" It seemed like another woman's voice chimed in.
Sun Li replied, "He asked me if you also died! Did he hit his head or something? Is his brain a bit damaged?"
As soon as Sun Li finished speaking, the other woman burst into laughter, saying, "Is this guy just trying to flirt with you because you're pretty? He seems to have some background; the director personally arranged for his attending physician and put him in this VIP Ward. It's not just about having money; look at you, even the Head Nurse is on night duty for him!"
Sun Li chuckled but remained silent. In reality, it wasn't quite as the nurse described. When she came on shift that night, she ran into a friend who mentioned that there was a patient needing special attention. When she arrived and saw who it was, she was stunned—this person was Fei Hu! What a small world! How could she always run into him whenever he was hospitalized? But today seemed different; Fei Hu was injured quite severely. Her friend wouldn't say much when she asked about it, and just then the director came to check on patients. When her friend mentioned it, Sun Li was specially assigned to this VIP Ward.
In between their conversation, perhaps due to medication effects, Fei Hu fell asleep again. He kept dreaming—various dreams that exhausted him.
Anyone who has received an IV knows that once it's hooked up, one tends to urinate frequently. Fei Hu woke up this time due to discomfort from gas buildup; he felt more awake than before. When he opened his eyes again, everything looked pretty much the same as last time except that he could turn his neck slightly now. As he turned it, he saw an IV bag and an arm with a needle inserted into it. Fei Hu was so excited that he almost cried—he wasn't dead! Dead people wouldn't have these things.
Fei Hu quickly moved his legs; everything seemed fine! His arms could move too; it was just his neck that felt stiff. He realized he'd been scaring himself all along. As Fei Hu moved around on the bed, a sleepy nurse noticed him and approached quietly, asking softly, "Do you need to use the restroom?"
Fei Hu blinked at her just as a weary-looking Sun Li walked over with a smile and asked, "Do you still recognize me?"
“Sun Li, am I not dead yet?” Fei Hu asked softly.
Sun Li rolled her eyes at him and said, “You think you’re that important? Even Yama King wouldn’t bother with someone like you.” Upon hearing this, Fei Hu laughed, a brilliant smile lighting up his face.
“Sister Sun, so you two know each other! Oh! I remember now, I saw you both in your office last time,” the little nurse said, a bit surprised by her own discovery.
Sun Li tugged at the little nurse's sleeve and whispered, “Xiao Li, don’t talk about this carelessly. His current identity is classified. I won’t say anything, and you should know the rules here.”
“Got it, Sister Sun. I won’t say a word. But right now, he needs to relieve himself; it would be more convenient for you to handle it,” Xiao Li said as she handed the urinal to Sun Li with a smile before leaving.
Sun Li shook her head helplessly. She walked over and professionally assisted Fei Hu with his needs. If he were a stranger, it wouldn’t be a big deal from Sun Li’s perspective as a nurse. However, since they were familiar with each other, the situation felt different. The moment Sun Li unbuttoned Fei Hu’s pants, a faint blush appeared on her delicate face.
For some reason, Fei Hu found it particularly difficult to urinate; despite having someone to assist him, he just couldn’t do it. It was quite ridiculous.
Just as both of them felt extremely awkward, the door to the ward suddenly swung open. A person wearing a knitted hat and a mask walked in, looking very mysterious. Sun Li couldn’t help but ask, “What are you doing here? This is the VIP Ward, and ordinary people can’t just come in.”
The newcomer removed their mask and politely said, “I came to see the patient; I’ll leave soon.”
“No way! It’s the middle of the night; what patient are you here to see? Visiting hours are over. If you don’t leave, I’ll call security,” Sun Li said with a change in expression, her hand involuntarily shaking. At that moment, Fei Hu finally managed to relieve himself comfortably.
Taking advantage of this opportunity, the newcomer pulled off their hat and shook their hair out. To everyone’s surprise, it turned out to be a stunning beauty. Sun Li couldn’t help but brighten up at the sight. Then she heard Fei Hu softly say, “Yingzi, why are you here so late?”
Seeing this, Sun Li took the urinal out and smiled, saying, “Since you two know each other, could you please take this away?” Without hesitation, Yingzi took the urinal and left.
Initially intending to make a joke, Sun Li didn’t expect her to take it seriously, which made her feel a bit embarrassed. She quickly added, “I was just joking with you.”
Emerging from the restroom, Yingzi wiped her hands with a tissue and said, “It’s fine; who hasn’t done this before?” As she spoke, she walked over and sat beside Fei Hu, looking him over from head to toe.
Then she smiled and said, "You really have a strong fate. When that knife came down, I closed my eyes and thought, if you die, I'll accompany you in death. I didn't expect that the guy used the back of the knife."
Hearing this, Fei Hu suddenly realized and laughed, saying, "When I opened my eyes just now, I thought I was dead. I almost made a fool of myself."
"Tch, did you think you were dead too?" Sun Li said, unable to resist pinching Fei Hu's leg, causing him to wince.
Yingzi laughed so hard that she bent over. Suddenly, she paused and asked, "Wait, do you two know each other?"
Fei Hu pointed at Sun Li and said, "Head Nurse Sun Li, my good friend. This is the graceful beauty Yingzi." Fei Hu introduced the two to each other.
The two women were polite and shook hands as a form of introduction. Sun Li suddenly asked Yingzi, "You came to visit him because you don't want anyone to know, right? That's why you came at this time and covered your face."
Yingzi nodded and said, "You're right. It will be like this in the future too. I won't come during the day; I'll come at night instead. You can take care of things here since we're all friends. No need for polite words."
At that moment, Nurse Xiao Li walked in. Upon seeing Yingzi, her expression changed. She sternly said, "What are you doing here in the middle of the night? Hurry up and get out! Be careful or I'll call security," as she reached for the wall.
Yingzi hurriedly stood up, waved goodbye to Fei Hu and Sun Li, then put on her hat and mask before opening the door and leaving. Xiao Li continued to grumble as she did so.
Sun Li looked at Fei Hu and gently said, "Sleep now! You need to rest."
"Oh! This is the gentlest I've ever seen Sister Sun with a patient," Xiao Li remarked as she couldn't help but laugh.
