The three-day deadline was approaching quickly, but Fei Hu still hadn't decided whether to agree to Bald Zhang and A-Lian. That night, just as Sun Li left, Fei Hu was about to turn off his phone when it rang.
"Come out for a bit! I'm waiting outside," A-Lian said as soon as the call connected, hanging up before Fei Hu could respond. How unreasonable! With that attitude, they still wanted him to be their leader? Fei Hu sulked as he plopped down on the sofa. However, after a while, he calmed down, got dressed, and left the community.
The night was enchanting, and Fei Hu didn't want to rush. Suddenly, he heard the sound of brakes behind him. Turning around, he saw a rental car stopping behind him. Xiao Qi jumped out and pulled him into the car without giving him a chance to speak. A-Lian, sitting in the front seat, turned around and smiled, "You've been too bored at home; we're taking you out for some fun."
Fei Hu thought to himself, what kind of fun could they have? If it were Bald Zhang, that would be different. He couldn't help but recall Big Sister and Second Sister, those two crazy women.
The rental car sped towards the suburbs. As they passed fields illuminated by the night sky, Fei Hu couldn't help but ask, "Where are you taking me? You’re not planning to catch loaches or something?"
The driver chuckled upon hearing this. "At this time of year, it's a bit cold; you can't catch loaches now. It seems like you're from the north?"
Fei Hu laughed lightly in response. Next to him, Xiao Qi playfully rested her head on his shoulder and said with a grin, "Don't worry; we won't sell you off. Besides, if I wanted to sell you, Sister Lian wouldn't allow it!"
"You better keep your mouth shut tonight; watch what you say or I'll take care of you," A-Lian warned as she turned around and shot a glare at Xiao Qi before glancing at the smiling Fei Hu with eyes full of affection.
The rental car stopped in front of a farmhouse adorned with large red lanterns. Xiao Qi jumped out and opened the door for Fei Hu. As he stepped out, he felt something was off; this Farmhouse Fun looked quite impressive—a three-story building—but it seemed deserted. Following A-Lian and Xiao Qi into the yard, he noticed someone standing guard at the entrance, which made him even more curious.
From the first floor to the third floor, there were guards at every corner. This puzzled Fei Hu greatly—what were A-Lian and her friends up to? He couldn't help but wonder.
Pushing open a door, Fei Hu looked up and was stunned. The large room had seven or eight dining tables surrounded by sixty men and women. What was going on? It didn’t seem like a friend gathering. His mind raced trying to figure it out when suddenly Bald Zhang stood up and shouted loudly, "The boss is here; everyone welcome!"
As soon as Bald Zhang's voice fell, thunderous applause erupted. Even A-Lian and Xiao Qi stopped to applaud Fei Hu, leaving him bewildered. He thought there was someone behind him, but when he turned around, there was no one! Was this applause meant for him? Fei Hu felt completely lost.
Bald Zhang ran over and pulled Fei Hu to sit at the center table. Fei Hu widened his eyes and quietly asked, "What's going on? Why all the mystery? Who's the boss here?" He fired off several questions in a row, but Bald Zhang just smiled without answering.
At that moment, A-Lian waved her hand, and everyone quieted down. She said, "Everyone, today is our first joint meeting. First of all, you are all here voluntarily. Since you have agreed to join, you must abide by the rules we have drafted. Each of you will receive a copy; if there are no objections, please sign on the top." With a wave of her hand, Xiao Qi began distributing a stack of papers to everyone.
Bald Zhang took a sheet without looking and quickly wrote his name on it. Fei Hu snatched it away and was shocked to see it contained many rules that everyone had to follow. One rule stated, "Everyone must listen to the boss's leadership, but the boss bears no responsibility for anything you do." Who was this boss? Fei Hu's heart began to race.
In less than two minutes, all the rules were collected back. Xiao Qi reported to A-Lian, "All passed."
"Great! Since there are no objections, let me add a few words. The boss is this person right here; you all need to recognize him clearly. Everyone must obey what he says. Also, his identity must remain confidential among us today; no one can leak it outside. If anyone violates this rule, not only will I be unkind, but Brother Guang will not let it slide either. Let me emphasize again: we are not coming together to cause trouble but to prevent other gangs from bullying us. If anyone misunderstands and takes the initiative to stir up trouble, we will not take responsibility," A-Lian concluded, and everyone erupted into applause.
At this point, Fei Hu finally understood that Bald Zhang and A-Lian had put him in a difficult position in front of everyone. This tactic was indeed effective; it seemed Bald Zhang and A-Lian had thoroughly studied Fei Hu's personality and knew he would never voice his displeasure in such a setting.
Next, Bald Zhang spoke about how to handle situations when they arose. Fei Hu listened attentively; everything he said made sense and did not come off as arrogant despite their numbers. Although he was called the boss, he bore no real responsibility—just a title that could keep everyone in line. This might be the main reason Guang and A-Lian wanted him to take on this role.
Though Fei Hu felt angry inside, he couldn't express it in front of so many people; he could only force a smile. Under Bald Zhang's introduction, he met various local figures like the street thugs from East Street and small-time gangsters from West Market—mostly chaotic individuals. Perhaps due to A-Lian’s influence, most of these people were women: some worked as bouncers at casinos while others collected protection fees at wholesale markets. This truly opened Fei Hu's eyes.
These women ranged in age from young adults to those in their thirties or forties; they came from all walks of life. Fei Hu deeply admired their courage to venture out into such dangerous work—walking on the edge of a knife every day.
With Bald Zhang announcing that food was being served, the atmosphere instantly lifted.
Before long, everyone was drinking and playing games. These so-called underworld figures revealed their true colors; no matter how wild they got with their antics, they never forgot their newly appointed boss who had just taken office tonight. A few women approached with raised glasses and bottles of liquor. Fei Hu panicked and pulled A-Lian aside, saying, "You know I'm taking medication; I absolutely cannot drink!"
A-Lian had just stood up when a woman in her thirties, dressed flamboyantly and with a charming appearance, spoke first. "Sister Lian, you've done a great thing for everyone. From now on, we can hold our heads high. Who cares about those donkey and dog gangs? To hell with them!"
"A-Feng, the boss is here; let's keep it civil to avoid embarrassing ourselves," A-Lian couldn't help but interject.
The woman called A-Feng chuckled and said, "Sister Lian, our boss is too handsome; we just don't know how capable he is. Tonight, all of us old and young are looking at him with envy. We mustn't let him get wet! If he does, it wouldn't be embarrassing for you at all."
Upon hearing this, Fei Hu felt his face flush. These women spoke so openly; what could I possibly do for them? It would be the other way around, Fei Hu silently cursed.
"Haha, Feng Jie, you really overestimate your abilities! If it comes to drinking, you might have an advantage, but in terms of skills? You're still far behind," Xiao Qi suddenly appeared from somewhere.
Feng Jie softly retorted, "Get lost," then snatched a bottle of liquor from a nearby woman and walked toward Fei Hu.
Seeing this, Fei Hu quickly stood up and smiled, saying, "I won't drink this; just keep it on my tab. I'll treat everyone to a good drink later."
"Come on, boss! If I'm not around later, how will you treat us? Let's enjoy today while we can! If you don't drink, it means you look down on us sisters," Feng Jie said, and the other women echoed her loudly.
Fei Hu wanted to refuse again, but Feng Jie had already handed him the cup. He hurriedly reached out to take it, only for her to suddenly apply force, sending the cup flying up one or two meters high. Just as Fei Hu was surprised, Feng Jie executed a move called Golden Silk Wrapping the Wrist and snapped her hand toward his wrist. Fei Hu remained still with slightly bent legs; as he exerted force in his arms, Feng Jie twisted his wrist twice without budging an inch.
As the cup was about to fall in front of him, Fei Hu extended his left hand to catch it. Suddenly, Feng Jie let go and swept her right leg out to attack his lower body. Anyone watching could tell that if Fei Hu wanted to defend against Feng Jie's attack, he would have no chance of catching the cup.
