As soon as night fell, Ye Cheng and Ye Xiaofei, both wearing hats and large masks, entered the basement together. They opened the back door of the storage room and crawled out through the vent in the backyard. This was a secret passage that Ye Cheng had specially constructed for emergencies.
Yingzi was not in a hurry. After exchanging a few words with Sister Wu, she wrapped a long scarf around her neck, covering most of her face. Then she went around to the back of the yard and climbed over the spiked wall. It seemed that the main entrance of the villa was no longer safe for them.
The three of them met on the road behind the villa and hailed a taxi, heading straight for 526 Hospital.
In the emergency room, Fei Hu was receiving an IV drip while Sun Li sat beside him, looking quite displeased. However, she patiently fed him some millet porridge from a bowl.
"I'm sorry for causing you trouble," Fei Hu said after swallowing a mouthful of porridge, suddenly grabbing Sun Li's hand and speaking softly.
Looking at Fei Hu's apologetic face, Sun Li sighed and said, "What can I say about you? You're not young anymore; you should know how to take care of yourself. You got hurt so badly and haven't recovered yet, but you still went out drinking and ended up like this. I don't care who you're with; that's not important to me. But I don't want you collapsing at my doorstep."
Sun Li's words were very stern, making Fei Hu feel extremely awkward. Upon reflection, he realized he had indeed been inconsiderate—living off someone else's hospitality while making them worry about him seemed rather unreasonable.
After finishing a bowl of porridge, Fei Hu felt much better in his stomach. He quietly watched the IV drip as it fell drop by drop. He felt a deep sense of guilt towards Sun Li but couldn't express it. Time passed slowly, and it seemed that Sun Li was still upset; she looked out the window and ignored Fei Hu on the hospital bed.
Suddenly, the door to the ward was pushed open, and Yingzi, Ye Xiaofei, and Ye Cheng walked in. Upon seeing Sun Li, Yingzi smiled and said, "Thank you for your hard work, Sister Sun! I didn't expect to find you here; I thought all emergencies were handled in the lobby."
Sun Li smiled back at everyone and invited them to sit down before casually saying, "The attending doctor here is my classmate; he gets special treatment."
"That's how society works—it's easier with connections. How is Fei Hu?" Yingzi asked eagerly.
Sun Li sighed deeply and replied, "The problem isn't too serious, but if he's sent late, his life could still be at risk." Hearing this, Yingzi gasped in shock and hurried over to Fei Hu's bedside.
Ye Cheng and Ye Xiaofei followed her over. Seeing Fei Hu with his eyes tightly shut made them look back at Sun Li in confusion. Noticing this, Sun Li approached Fei Hu's bed and gently said with a smile, "Don't be shy; open your eyes."
Ye Xiaofei stepped forward and poked Fei Hu's shoulder with her finger, saying, "What kind of person are you? Even my grandfather came to see you, and you're still pretending to sleep here."
Upon hearing this, Fei Hu quickly opened his eyes and said apologetically, "How did I disturb all of you? Grandfather, please sit!" As he spoke, he prepared to sit up.
Sun Li reached out and pressed him down, angrily saying, "Just lie there honestly! Everyone here is familiar with you; no one will mind that you're a patient. Oh! You just care too much about your pride and suffer for it."
"Just lie down! It's fine; we are not strangers to you," Ye Cheng said with a kind expression.
Fei Hu suddenly said, "Sun Li, isn't it time for you to go to work?"
"It doesn't matter; in this state, how can I go to work? Forget it! I'll call in sick later," Sun Li replied, helplessly spreading her hands.
Yingzi heard this and laughed, "Sister Sun, you're being too polite. Go to work! I'll take care of him tonight; don't worry, he won't lose a single hair." Saying this, she pushed Sun Li toward the door.
Seeing Yingzi's sincere attitude, Sun Li smiled and left.
As soon as Sun Li left, Fei Hu seemed like a different person and insisted on sitting up. Yingzi had no choice but to place a pillow behind him so he could sit up. Fei Hu smiled and said, "Mr. Ye, it's already so dark outside, and yet you came over. I feel a bit embarrassed."
Ye Cheng waved his hand and laughed, "You're being too polite. This time, because of our family matters, you got hurt. Normally, Xiaofei and I should have come to see you in the hospital. However, considering your current situation and for your safety, we could only let Yingzi come instead. We didn't expect you to end up in the hospital again; if we hadn't come now, it would have been quite unreasonable."
"Actually, it's nothing serious. I just drank too much, and the doctor reminded me that I might have consumed fake alcohol, which is why I'm feeling this way," Fei Hu said while scratching his head with an awkward expression.
Ye Xiaofei sneered, "You're quite something! Just out of the hospital and already out drinking again, even getting poisoned. Didn't the Head Nurse keep a close watch on you? How did you manage to sneak out? It seems the person who invited you for drinks is either a stunning beauty or someone of significant status."
Ye Xiaofei's words were sharp; not only did she analyze the situation accurately, but she also showed no mercy towards Fei Hu. Caught off guard, Fei Hu hurriedly said, "This drip is almost done."
Yingzi chuckled lightly and said, "Don't rush; it can still flow for a while. This is medicine; it's expensive!" After saying that, she made a funny face at Fei Hu.
After chatting for a while, they noticed it was almost time. Yingzi urged Ye Cheng by saying, "Grandpa, you and Xiaofei should leave now. I'll drive you back and then hurry back here."
"No need; just stay put. In this outfit, no one will recognize you. The hospital isn't far from our home; it'll only take about thirty or forty minutes by taxi. Once we get home, we'll give you a call," Ye Cheng said as he stood up and patted Fei Hu on the shoulder.
Fei Hu quickly greeted the elderly man. Ye Cheng smiled and walked toward the door. Ye Xiaofei took a couple of steps before suddenly turning around with a smile at Fei Hu and said, "You should move out! Being looked after isn't very free." After saying that, she winked at Fei Hu.
"Wow! This is the first time I've seen Ye Xiaofei do this," Fei Hu thought, momentarily stunned. In fact, when Ye Xiaofei stepped out, her face was flushed in the night air, as she had just mimicked someone else's actions, her first attempt at flirting with a man.
Alcohol poisoning wasn't a major incident; after losing a few bottles, Fei Hu was discharged from the hospital the next day. Since Sun Li came to pick him up, Yingzi reluctantly returned to the villa alone.
Back home, Fei Hu was full of energy, as if alcohol poisoning had nothing to do with him. To please Sun Li, he picked up a mop and cleaned the entire room. If Sun Li hadn't stopped him, he would have looked for a cloth to wipe the tables as well.
Seeing Fei Hu trying so hard to make her happy, a smile slowly appeared on Sun Li's face. She patted the sofa and said with a laugh, "Sit down! Don't do that; I'm not used to it. As long as you recover quickly, whether I'm happy or not is a trivial matter."
"Hey! That's not a trivial matter. If you're not happy, I can't enjoy my meals," Fei Hu replied as he sat down next to Sun Li.
Sun Li sighed deeply and leaned her head on Fei Hu's shoulder. She softly said, "Fei Hu, you're a good man. I genuinely like you from the bottom of my heart, but I will never marry any man in this lifetime. So you need to prepare yourself for that. I can see that there are many excellent girls who like you; you should seize the opportunity. In this lifetime, I'll just be your confidante."
After hearing Sun Li's words, Fei Hu remained silent for a long time. He couldn't tell if he felt happy or sad because he had never been in love and didn't know what true love felt like.
Sun Li quietly nestled against Fei Hu, gazing at the flickering neon lights outside the window. She said softly, "Next month, I'm going to England to study. I might be gone for more than a year. This room will be yours; if you bring other women back here, I won't mind as long as I don't find out because I might get jealous."
Fei Hu shook his head and said, "No need for that. If you're not here, why would I come back? Am I just here to stay in your fancy room? That's unnecessary."
Upon hearing this, Sun Li suddenly wrapped her arms around Fei Hu's neck and kissed him repeatedly on the face like raindrops.
The cooled passion was slowly reignited. Fei Hu turned around and lifted Sun Li into his arms, walking slowly toward the bedroom while dropping her clothes along the way.
