As soon as he sat down, the bright lights turned on, making Fei Hu feel uncomfortable all over. At that moment, he understood why Helena had been crying and refusing to come in.
"Sit tight! Name," a woman's voice commanded. Fei Hu felt she resembled the Ni Team member he had encountered earlier, but the light was so intense that he could barely open his eyes.
Fei Hu slowly replied, "Fei Hu."
"I'm asking for your real name, not a pseudonym or nickname. You need to understand that your attitude is very important," the female officer said sternly.
Fei Hu paused for a moment and pointed to the pocket of his pants. Xiao Li approached and took out his identification card from the pocket, seemingly handing it to the female officer. The two exchanged a few words, but Fei Hu couldn't hear clearly.
"What's the name of the chubby girl you were with? What is your relationship with her?" the female officer began to inquire again.
Fei Hu felt a bit annoyed. Why weren't they asking her name directly? Why were they asking him? Although he thought this way, he understood that this wasn't a place for him to act out. The fact that the female officer was asking him indicated that Helena wasn't saying anything. Fei Hu felt there was no need for this; he decided to be honest and straightforward. "Good! Very well answered. Now please describe the entire process of tonight in detail without any omissions or fabrications; stick to the facts," the female officer said, her tone softening as she noticed Fei Hu's cooperative attitude.
So, Fei Hu recounted how he and Helena went to the bar for drinks, then took a walk outside where they encountered a woman in distress, and how Lai Er brought people to fight him. He detailed the entire process.
The female officer asked again, "What is the name of the woman you saved? What is your relationship with her?"
Upon hearing this, Fei Hu became a bit angry. Wasn't this police officer just talking nonsense? He had already stated that he didn't know this woman; why was she still asking? Suppressing his anger, Fei Hu replied firmly, "I don't know her; what relationship could there be? I've made it very clear."
The female officer gently said, "Don't get agitated. There's a reason we're asking you these questions. Do you know? That woman claims she knows you and that you fought with Lai Er out of jealousy over her."
"That's utter nonsense! How can there be such a ridiculous woman in this world? If she knows me, ask her what my full name is! Does she know where I live or where I work?" Fei Hu's emotions escalated as he expressed his frustration at being wrongfully accused.
Seeing that his emotions had calmed down slightly, the female officer continued, "We will definitely get to the bottom of this. The current issue is that Helena refuses to speak up and the location where you fought still doesn't have surveillance cameras installed. This makes it difficult for us to gather evidence. So until we clarify this matter, you are our primary suspect because Lai Er has died."
Fei Hu was truly anxious upon hearing this. He shouted loudly, "His death has nothing to do with me. You can check his body, even perform an autopsy. If I really only used my arm to block him and that caused his death, then I, Fei Hu, will accept it. You can refer to the injuries on his four lackeys; those were inflicted by me, I admit it. Now look at Lai Er; what injuries does he have?"
The female police officer seemed to ponder for a moment before saying, "You don't need to worry about that. We will absolutely not wrong an innocent person while letting a guilty one go free. However, you will have to endure some inconvenience over the next few days. Everything will be based on the facts, and as soon as we have a good result, we will release you immediately."
Upon hearing this, Fei Hu was stunned; he didn't know how he returned to that small room.
It might have been very late at night, but Fei Hu had no intention of sleeping. He stared blankly at the faint light coming through the iron door, his heart racing. Why had he suddenly become a suspect? Was being a good person truly met with such retribution? If this matter could not be clarified, would he really have to spend his entire life behind high walls?
The more Fei Hu thought about it, the more his head hurt. He felt like he was losing control and was nearly driven mad. Perhaps this was life—the real experience of life—struggling through pain and despair. Gradually, Fei Hu fell asleep.
In the morning, as the sun peeked over the horizon, Ye Xiaofei had already gotten up. Last night, she had discussed matters regarding the Dragon Tiger Gang with her grandfather and had gone to bed a bit late, so she felt particularly sluggish.
She approached the window, casually pulled back the curtains, and opened the window. A rush of fresh air greeted her, instantly invigorating her spirits and making her feel incredibly joyful. Just then, her phone suddenly rang. Ye Xiaofei frowned; who could be calling so early?
Feeling quite displeased, Ye Xiaofei answered the call and controlled her irritation as she said, "Hello! What’s going on?"
"Miss Ye, Fei Hu was taken away by the police last night and hasn't been released yet. Can you think of a way to help him in your capacity as a company representative?" Helena's voice came through the phone, filled with tears.
After a while, Ye Xiaofei finally regained her composure and asked, "Which Miss He from Human Resources are you? Please don’t panic; take your time and explain what happened clearly."
On the other end of the line, Helena was crying and talking at the same time, rambling on for quite some time. Although Ye Xiaofei couldn't grasp everything clearly, one thing she was certain of was that Fei Hu had been taken away by the police and that the situation seemed serious. This news left Ye Xiaofei feeling helpless. She hurriedly put on her clothes without even washing her face and rushed to Yingzi's room.
Yingzi had just returned from jogging and was about to change when Ye Xiaofei burst into her room unexpectedly, startling Yingzi. She quickly asked, "What happened? What's going on?"
"Fei Hu was taken away by the police last night; it seems like there’s a serious issue," Ye Xiaofei replied breathlessly and urgently.
Upon hearing this, Yingzi dropped the clothes she was holding in shock. She couldn't believe it; how could Fei Hu be taken away by the police? This news felt sudden to Yingzi. After a moment of stunned silence, she quickly asked Ye Xiaofei, "Who told you this? What exactly happened? We need to think of a way quickly."
The unusual behavior of the two people had already alerted Ye Cheng, who had just finished practicing Tai Chi and was heading upstairs. He walked in and quickly asked, "Who got arrested by the police? Don't panic, let's clarify the situation first."
"It's Fei Hu. The HR manager from the company just called, and she was crying heavily. It seems Fei Hu is quite well-liked," Ye Xiaofei said calmly.
Upon hearing this, Ye Cheng was a bit surprised and said, "It's Fei Hu? How could they get arrested by the police? Hurry, let's go to the company and find out which HR manager it is. Get the details first. If you need help, call me immediately; I'll rush over with Sister Wu."
Ye Xiaofei nodded and anxiously said, "Yingzi, let's go! Don't just stand there."
"You mentioned that Supervisor He was crying heavily, which means she knows what happened. Let's contact her quickly; she might be at home right now. It's too early for her to be at the office," Yingzi slowly calmed down as her mind started racing.
At the entrance of the Helena community, a red BMW Z4 was parked, with Yingzi and Ye Xiaofei inside. Both were wearing big sunglasses, and their scarves nearly covered half of their faces. Helena ran down from upstairs and immediately spotted the BMW at the entrance. She waved at it and then rushed into the community.
Ye Xiaofei asked in confusion, "What's she doing?"
Yingzi replied softly, "This seems a bit strange; she might be being watched. Let's follow her for now." With that, she pressed on the gas pedal, and the BMW drove into the community.
At the back of the community, there was a small garden with artificial rocks and flowing water. Helena stood behind one of the fake rocks and waved to them. Yingzi parked the car and walked over with Ye Xiaofei. She glanced around; apart from a few elderly people practicing Tai Chi, there was no one else around.
As soon as Helena saw Yingzi and Ye Xiaofei, she quietly recounted everything that had happened last night while crying. Her eyes kept darting around nervously, indicating that she might have been frightened by something else.
After listening to Helena's account, Yingzi pondered for a moment before asking, "Have you been threatened by someone?" Upon hearing this, Helena's expression changed dramatically.
