Ni Ling took off her police cap, shook her short hair, looking very beautiful and charming, and most importantly, she was extremely graceful. She smiled lightly and said, "So Xu Suo means you really want to take this person away."
"Yes, if I can't take this person away, I won't be able to work. Many people are coming to find me; how can I do my job?" Xu Ning felt more justified as he spoke.
"Haha! Well then! Director, I will hand over the major crimes unit to you now, and I'll deliver the person to you," Ni Ling said before putting on her police cap and leaving.
Old Chief slammed the table and shouted, "You stop right there! You all are simply out of control! Do you still see me as the director? Xu Ning, is this how you work? You just run into my office and say you can't do your job? Fine! I'll grant you that; take off your police uniform and leave immediately. I won't stop you!" Old Chief was so angry that his face changed color.
Xu Ning felt embarrassed, unsure whether to leave or stay. He quietly said, "I was just saying it casually; it's really not possible. I take back what I just said."
"This is ridiculous! What do you think the police station is? The person we brought in definitely has issues. If you can just take them away with a single word, then why are we putting in so much effort? The major crimes unit has privileges to handle cases anywhere without needing to report to you. You better listen carefully; if you keep saying useless things like this, first put down your position as the head of the department and reflect on yourself," Old Chief said angrily, turning his face away.
Xu Ning hurriedly grabbed his bag from the table and quietly asked Ni Ling, "Ni Team, is this a major case?"
"Xu Suo, it seems like you shouldn't be asking about this!" Ni Ling increasingly disliked him. What awareness did he have, being the head of the department? It was simply a waste of national resources.
Seeing that both the director and Ni Ling were not fond of him, Xu Ning could only turn around and leave in embarrassment. As he heard the door close, Old Chief turned back around and said in a softer tone, "Don't mind him; focus on wrapping up this case quickly. Let's see if we can get something out of it."
Ni Ling sighed and said, "This case is not as simple as we thought. Last night, this group took advantage of a gap and pulled an unrelated person into it. They wanted to create chaos and slip away, but a small fish slipped into our net. They might cause some commotion outside because they fear they can't escape unscathed."
"Oh! How do you know that the person you brought in last night is unrelated to this case?" Old Chief asked with some confusion.
Ni Ling sat down and thought for a moment before continuing, "After interrogation, it turns out this person was indeed with colleagues from the company. They happened to pass by when they saw Bai Jing being chased and stepped in to help. Unexpectedly, they got caught up with Lai Er's gang. What's very strange is that Lai Er had no signs of injury at all."
Upon hearing this, Old Chief straightened his posture and said, "Make sure to have the forensic expert assess it; if necessary, perform an autopsy. If it's truly not homicide, then release that person quickly; we can't delay this matter. The longer it takes, the harder it will be to let them go."
"Well! I know, just now, the one who was released, Helena, came back and changed her statement, saying that Bai Jing threatened her last night. She was scared, so she lied. This changes the nature of the case. As long as the inspection results come out and confirm that he did not act in excessive self-defense, this person can be released immediately. Actually, I know him; he just doesn't know me. So I can confidently say that he is definitely not involved in this drug case," Ni Ling said with great confidence.
"Alright! I trust your ability to handle this. I hope we can close the case soon and clear the names of those unrelated to it. We absolutely cannot wrong an innocent person," Old Chief said earnestly.
"Okay, I'll hurry up," Ni Ling said, putting on her police cap and turning to leave the chief's office.
In another room of a salon, Ye Wu was lounging on the sofa while Juanzi sat beside him, gently massaging his back. On the other side, a middle-aged woman referred to as 'Aunt' by these people was leisurely smoking a cigarette, white smoke rings rising one after another around her before disappearing.
"Boss Ye, you usually talk big; why is it so hard to pull someone out?" Aunt asked coldly as she extinguished her cigarette.
Ye Wu looked at this sexy yet graceful woman with lustful eyes and smiled, "Don't worry! News will come soon." He then closed his eyes again, enjoying himself.
Juanzi glanced at Aunt with displeasure and suddenly applied more pressure with her hands, causing Ye Wu to abruptly open his eyes and grin, "What’s wrong, dear aunt? Are you trying to kill me?"
"Aunt asked you to handle this matter; can't you just make a phone call? Waiting and waiting until the food gets cold," Juanzi said angrily as she dropped her hands in frustration.
Ye Wu shook his head and yawned, "Fine! I'll make the call. You all are my ancestors; I'm scared of you now. Handling a matter is always so urgent; what great outcome can come from it?" He said as he pulled out his phone from a small bag on the table.
Once the call connected, Ye Wu hardly said anything and kept agreeing. Finally, he exclaimed in shock, "What did you say? Can't get the person out? It's related to some major case?" Ye Wu Yi hung up the phone with a dejected expression.
Aunt sat up abruptly, looking displeased as she asked, "You couldn't even handle this trivial matter?"
Ye Wu awkwardly scratched his head and replied, "He said this matter involves some major case in the bureau; it’s useless for anyone to go." In front of others, Ye Wu might seem very impressive, but in front of Aunt, he was always respectful.
After hearing this, Aunt said sternly, "Juanzi, come with me." She turned and walked away. Juanzi hurriedly put on her shoes and followed after her. Ye Wu watched their departing figures and smirked slyly.
At dinner time, Fei Hu ate a couple of bites before going to bed. He had come to terms with things; whether it's a blessing or a curse is unavoidable. He firmly believed in this saying now. Many events had proven that some things were simply coincidental for him—like saving Ye Cheng and ending up being hunted down everywhere. Last night he saved a woman only to find out she was a cunning fox spirit while he remained an ordinary person. It seemed he was destined for such fate; thus, he decided not to think about it anymore and let things unfold as they would.
Suddenly, the iron door swung open with a clang, and Ni Ling walked in. She happily said to Fei Hu, "You're fine now; the test results are out, and they have nothing to do with you."
Upon hearing this, Fei Hu's expression remained unchanged. This matter had nothing to do with him; insisting that he was involved had wasted a whole day and night, causing him to lose countless brain cells.
Ni Ling smiled and said, "What's wrong? Are you unhappy? Are you still blaming us? But this is just a procedure; there's no way around it since someone has died. You should understand that."
"I can understand; how could I not? I support you police in solving cases," Fei Hu replied as he squeezed past Ni Ling, eager to leave this dreadful place. He didn't want to stay even a minute longer.
"Wait a moment, Fei Hu. Our director wants to see you," Ni Ling said, grabbing Fei Hu's arm just as he was about to exit, smiling brightly.
Seeing the beautiful woman smile so sweetly at him, Fei Hu felt he couldn't say much more. He nodded and asked, "But I’m fine now, right? Why does your director still want to see me? We're not related; it would be best if we didn't meet."
Ni Ling patted Fei Hu on the shoulder and said, "Why be so stingy? You're not the Fei Hu I know."
"What? You know me? In your dreams?" Fei Hu replied playfully.
Ni Ling chuckled and said, "You're quite humorous. Last time when you got slashed in the neck, I was the one who took you to the hospital, and you didn’t even thank me."
Fei Hu was taken aback and exclaimed, "Oh! So it was you! I'm a bit forgetful; I completely forgot about that. You're Yingzi's good friend, right? And it seems like you're also close with Sun Li." He hadn't expected that Officer Ni was the one who took him to the hospital. He was somewhat surprised and puzzled as to why Yingzi hadn't mentioned this.
Ni Ling smiled and said, "Both of them are my good friends. However, due to work's special nature, I have fewer opportunities to meet them. But our feelings for each other are still very strong. However, this time when you go out, you must not tell Yingzi about our meeting. If you do, I won't talk to you again. You'd better not ask Yingzi who Ni Ling is." Fei Hu nodded in confusion; he didn't understand at all.
