In order to ensure Fei Hu's safety, Ni Ling did not let him out of prison immediately. Instead, she made him endure two more days inside, claiming he was unmanageable and that there had been new developments in his case, before transferring him to Maximum Security Prison. Of course, he was released halfway through the transfer. Ni Ling had meticulously arranged everything, but once Fei Hu was out, he absolutely could not mention this somewhat legendary experience to anyone; it was a sealed secret.
As soon as Fei Hu returned to his rental apartment, he took a shower and tidied himself up. Looking in the mirror, he saw a thin, dark-skinned man and couldn't believe that in just over twenty days, he had changed so much.
He rummaged through the closet for a long time but couldn't find a single winter garment; most of the clothes were summer or autumn wear. He hadn't expected that winter would quietly end while he was inside. Fortunately, Ni Ling had arranged for a driver to drop him off at the community entrance; otherwise, if he had walked back in his old clothes from the street, he might have frozen into a zombie.
Wrapped in a blanket on the bed, Fei Hu held an envelope that Ni Ling had given him as a hardship allowance. To be honest, no amount of money would make him want to go back to such a place again. He took it out and counted; it was decent enough. He planned to buy some winter clothes tomorrow. After being away from work for so many days, he wondered what the situation would be like.
Fei Hu then remembered that his phone had been confiscated when he entered prison. It was only today on the way back that Ni Ling had given it back to him, but it was already dead. Just as he plugged in the charger, someone knocked on the door. Fei Hu was taken aback; who could it be? It felt strange for someone to come looking for him right after he returned. Curiously, he opened the door.
Cough! The scene before him made Fei Hu feel ecstatic. Standing at the door were none other than Yingzi and Ye Xiaofei, both looking at him with the same expression as if he had just returned from space.
"What’s up? Aren't you going to let us in for a bit?" Ye Xiaofei laughed with her bell-like voice.
Fei Hu snapped back to reality and quickly said, "Come in! It's windy outside."
Ye Xiaofei pushed Yingzi forward, and they both giggled as they walked in. Fei Hu then noticed that Yingzi was carrying a large bag that didn’t seem too heavy. After they sat down, Yingzi looked around the apartment and pointed at Fei Hu saying, "You’re not much of a friend; you moved into a new place without telling me. Looks like Sister Xiaofei has more clout."
Ye Xiaofei chuckled and said, "It’s not about having clout; it's just that I have thicker skin. They didn’t even invite me; I just forced my way in first."
Fei Hu found their behavior strange; they didn’t ask about his time in prison but instead reminisced about past events. It seemed they were intentionally avoiding the topic. Since that was the case, it was fine not to discuss it—after all, those were all tearful memories.
After chatting about trivial matters for a while, Fei Hu couldn't hold back any longer and urgently asked Ye Xiaofei, "While I’ve been away these days, has the company removed me from their roster?"
"Who dares? Without my signature, your dismissal is invalid," Ye Xiaofei said, laughing first. Fei Hu had never seen Ye Xiaofei so happy before; his mood was also lifted, and he gradually felt better.
"There are a few winter clothes in the bag that I bought while passing by the mall with Sister Xiofei. You should change into them! We'll go out for dinner soon," Yingzi said with a smile to Fei Hu.
Fei Hu touched his bald head and awkwardly replied, "No need! It's too cold outside. I just want to take a nap. Let's eat more when we go out; you can consider it as me eating."
"Hey! You haven't been around for a few days, and now you're trying to be funny. Stop talking nonsense; there’s everything in the bag. Hurry up and change! If we’re late, Grandpa will get angry," Ye Xiaofei said as she ran over, grabbed the large bag from the floor, and shoved it into Fei Hu's arms while nodding towards the bedroom.
When Fei Hu heard that Ye Cheng would be at dinner, he felt embarrassed to be stubborn. If they were late and the old man was unhappy, it would ruin the meal. Besides, during his time in prison, he had received help from the old man behind the scenes. If it weren't for the keepsake he carried, Fei Hu wouldn't have gotten out so quickly. Thinking of this, he immediately picked up the bag and headed to the bedroom.
Having a woman around is great. When Fei Hu opened the bag, he felt overjoyed. Inside were underwear, socks, a knitted sweater, and knitted pants. What excited him the most was a black trench coat—his favorite from years ago. He had never had enough money to buy it, so every time he went to the mall, he could only look at it from afar. He never expected that this wish would be fulfilled by these two women right after he got out of prison; it was quite touching.
As he came out of the bedroom, Ye Xiaofei and Yingzi stopped talking. Their eyes shone like searchlights as they scanned Fei Hu from head to toe. Ye Xiaofei couldn't help but exclaim first, "You little rascal! You look quite handsome after dressing up. Wow! The clothes you bought today have great taste; not only do they fit well, but they also look stylish. If you put on that hat and tie a tie, you'd really look like Xu Wenqiang from Shanghai."
Ye Xiaofei was particularly talkative today and always wore a bright smile. Fei Hu found himself captivated; he didn't expect that after being away for more than twenty days, Ye Xiaofei seemed like a different person—her smile was sweet, her demeanor friendly, and she no longer held herself above him as before. Fei Hu suddenly felt that the distance between him and Ye Xiaofei had shrunk significantly.
Yingzi nodded and said, "It's really nice. Put on a hat; it's about time for us to go."
Fei Hu shook his head and said, "No way! This hat is too flashy; if I wear it, people will really think I'm a big shot. I'd rather go without it!"
Ye Xiaofei pouted and said, "You have so many issues." With that, she took off her colorful knitted hat and quickly placed it on Fei Hu's head before he could react.
Ye Xiaofei's gesture warmed Fei Hu's heart; he felt not only warmth but also something more... there were many feelings swirling inside him. He even caught a faint fragrance coming from the little hat.
Yingzi was momentarily stunned; she forced an unnatural smile and said, "It really suits you. Let's go!"
As soon as they left the community, Ye Xiaofei handed the car keys to Fei Hu and said, "You drive! I need to rest for a bit."
Fei Hu then understood that both Yingzi and Ye Xiaofei were driving their own cars. With Ye Xiaofei's gesture, Fei Hu had no reason not to sit beside her. Seeing Yingzi's somewhat lonely figure, Fei Hu felt a twinge of guilt in his heart.
Ye Xiaofei settled into the passenger seat and pointed ahead, saying, "Dongge Grand Hotel. Go to the end of South Aolu Road, make a big turn, and it's just a hundred meters ahead." After saying this, she really closed her eyes. Fei Hu looked at her beautiful face and felt an urge to pounce on her and take a big bite of her rosy cheeks.
Dining at a star-rated hotel made Fei Hu feel particularly important, especially with two beautiful women accompanying him. Even more exciting was that Ye Cheng had also arrived. This time in prison, Fei Hu truly appreciated the imposing and sacred presence of the Dragon Tiger Gang's leader; even one of his tokens could make the gang members worship him.
As soon as they entered, Ye Cheng walked over to Fei Hu, looking him up and down before laughing heartily, "Good! Good steel should be tempered in fire. A person who hasn't experienced hardship can't be considered successful. This is a great test for you; don't say you suffered because you've actually gained more."
Fei Hu smiled without speaking and sat down next to Ye Cheng. Sister Wu personally picked up the teapot and poured a cup of tea for Fei Hu, softly saying, "This child has lost weight and gotten darker. Sigh! When faced with such things, one can only consider it bad luck; there's really no reasoning involved."
"It's fine; everything is in the past, and I won't dwell on it," Fei Hu replied lightly with a smile at Sister Wu.
Ye Xiaofei sat next to Fei Hu and said with a grin, "Grandpa, shouldn't we start serving the dishes? You two are just chatting away while Yingzi and I are left out!" As she spoke, she playfully widened her eyes, looking extremely cute.
"Serve the dishes and pour the wine! You child, can't you arrange things while I'm talking?" Ye Cheng said somewhat impatiently to Ye Xiaofei before turning back to chat with Fei Hu.
Yingzi quickly made a shushing gesture to Ye Xiaofei, and the two laughed as they sat aside watching Ye Cheng and Fei Hu chat away.
In the midst of their conversation, the dishes were served. Ye Cheng first poured a glass of wine for himself and Fei Hu, completely ignoring everyone else. Beside them, Ye Xiaofei said somewhat jealously, "I really don't know who his real grandchild is."
