Crash! The glass cup shattered against the wall, turning into fragments. Ye Wu leaned back on the sofa, glaring at Little Four and Abiao. He stood up and paced back and forth in the living room. His leg injury felt much better; he had just been discharged from the hospital this afternoon, and upon returning, he was in a furious mood.
"You two are simply idiots. It's been so many days, and you haven't found any information about the people I asked you to investigate. Are you saying they are all aliens?" Ye Wu said, searching for something on the coffee table. However, the table had been cleaned thoroughly by the maid, and breaking his belongings seemed trivial to her; she probably feared cleaning up.
Seeing Ye Wu in a rage, Little Four hurriedly stepped forward and whispered, "Brother Tiger, if you're feeling frustrated, just hit your little brother a couple of times. Don't let it affect your health." This kid was good at reading the room, truly a sycophant.
Ye Wu raised his hand and glanced at Abiao and Little Four, who were standing with their heads down. Slowly, he lowered his hand and sighed deeply. "It's not that I look down on you two; you really are far from my Four Great Kings back in the day. Why is it so difficult to handle such a small matter?"
Little Four kept his head down and said softly, "We conducted an investigation based on your suspects. The old man's trusted aides are only a few, and they were all at various nightclubs that night with witnesses to prove they couldn't possibly have been at the scene where we were attacked."
Ye Wu slowly sat down and muttered to himself, "Could it be that it wasn't the old man's people?"
Abiao, noticing Ye Wu's mood improving slightly, cautiously spoke up, "Brother Tiger, in my personal opinion, while the old man does harbor resentment towards us, based on his character, he wouldn't go so far as to send someone to harm you. After all, even a tiger doesn't eat its own cubs, especially since you are still father and son."
"Get lost! You're just talking too much without accomplishing anything. You know better than I do what our relationship is," Ye Wu's mood had improved but flared up again after Abiao's comment. Abiao stuck out his tongue in fear and hurriedly stepped back, keeping his head down and not daring to speak again.
At that moment, Ye Wu's phone rang on the table. The maid walked over to answer it and said quietly, "Boss, it's the Second Young Master calling. Do you want to take it?"
Ye Wu raised his hand as if to say not to answer but suddenly lowered it again. He stood up and picked up another phone from the coffee table, smirking as he spoke into it. "Second Brother, calling me this late—are you here for some fun or is there something else going on?"
"Hahaha! Third Brother, why would you say such a thing? What do you take Second Brother for? The truth is, I was supposed to pick you up from the hospital this afternoon myself. However, two guests suddenly arrived from Hong Kong whom I couldn't afford to neglect. So I didn't come; it's my fault for not being there for you," Ye Wei laughed heartily on the other end of the line. Those around could tell that these brothers had quite a good relationship.
Ye Wu grinned at the phone and coldly snorted, "Thanks! Second Brother, is this to show off a bit, saying you're wealthy and your business has even reached Hong Kong? Is that what you mean?"
"Hey! It seems Third Brother has many misunderstandings about Second Brother. I'm telling you this because there's a business deal that requires our cooperation. Isn't Second Brother thinking of Third Brother? If you're unwilling, then forget it. I'll find someone else. I don't want to disturb Third Brother; you just got out of the hospital and need to rest." Ye Wei spoke very nicely, which left Ye Wu feeling both angry and helpless.
After a moment of hesitation, Ye Wu said into the receiver, "Alright then! I can't refuse Second Brother's kindness. Let's meet at the usual place tomorrow afternoon." With that, Ye Wu hung up the phone forcefully, thinking to himself, why should I feel indebted to money?
At that moment, Fei Hu and the others were enjoying their meal at a street stall. To be honest, while Boss might be a bit timid, the dishes were definitely top-notch, not inferior to those in any restaurant. Among them, Yingzi gave off an impression that she might be a bit picky. At first, she just poked at her food with her chopsticks without putting anything in her mouth. However, after some persuasion from Fei Hu, she took a few bites and couldn't stop. She hadn't expected such delicious food would be available right by the roadside.
When men gather for a meal, it seems like it lacks excitement without alcohol. By the time Fei Hu noticed, Bald Zhang had already led everyone in drinking. The atmosphere in the small stall became lively. Fei Hu smiled and hurried over to Boss, who was looking outside, saying with a grin, "Let's settle the bill; otherwise, if we drink too much later and forget, it won't be good."
Boss smiled awkwardly and replied, "The bill has already been settled by that short-haired woman." Fei Hu turned around and saw Yingzi smiling at him; he felt sweet inside.
Boss Lady walked over and handed a bottle of white liquor to Fei Hu, saying, "They've all started drinking; you should have some too! This bottle is good; consider it my gift to you."
Fei Hu quickly responded, "No way! That's too generous; how much is it? I'll pay you."
"Just take it! This liquor was given to her by someone else. If you drink it, she'll drink less so I can earn more," Boss chimed in. Hearing this, Boss Lady and he began playfully arguing as they headed toward the kitchen, leaving Fei Hu aside.
A-Lian shouted, "Just take it! She gave it to us; we should drink it. If you're so polite, they'll think we look down on them." After hearing this, Fei Hu agreed and quickly brought the liquor over to pour everyone a glass as they cheered and drank.
At that moment, a siren blared followed by a police car accompanied by several motorcycles roaring up and stopping right at the entrance of the street stall. Several police officers jumped out of the car and lined up. One male police officer in his forties shouted loudly, "Everyone stop! Someone reported that you're involved in organized crime and fighting in public. Come with me to the station for questioning."
This shout silenced everyone immediately. Fei Hu was momentarily stunned; it was his first time facing such a situation and didn't know how to respond. Just then, Bald Zhang stood up and loudly said, "Officer, you've got it wrong! We're just here to hang out and celebrate a little New Year together. Who are we fighting with? You should have some evidence!"
"Do you want evidence? Open all the car doors here and let us conduct our inspection," the Middle-Aged Police Officer said loudly. Fei Hu looked up and saw that the man was balding, slightly overweight, and of average height.
A Lian nodded at Fei Hu, walked over, and said softly, "Officer, we are indeed just having a meal here. There’s nothing worth inspecting in these old cars. Why don’t we all sit down and have some late-night snacks? You’ve worked hard on this case."
The Middle-Aged Police Officer looked A Lian up and down, his expression softening slightly as he replied, "Thank you! However, we still need to conduct the inspection; it's a routine procedure. Open the car doors and stop wasting time."
Fei Hu scanned the area and suddenly noticed that the motorcycle closest to him had the words Dongguan Police Station printed on its side. He thought to himself, this is the suburbs; why is the Dongguan Police Station involved here? Feeling something was off, Fei Hu immediately stood up and asked the Middle-Aged Police Officer, "Could you show us your police badge?"
Upon hearing this, the officer's expression changed dramatically as he barked back, "What? Are you questioning our identity? If you have eyes, can’t you see these police cars? Isn’t that proof enough?"
"I'm sorry, but if you have your credentials, we will comply with the inspection. If not, then please leave," Fei Hu replied firmly.
The others present were puzzled as to why Fei Hu dared to confront the police. They were unaware of what Fei Hu had discovered. The Middle-Aged Police Officer sneered and asked, "Who do you think you are to speak to me like that?"
"A citizen of the People's Republic of China and the organizer of tonight's dinner. Do I not have the right to ask you this?" Fei Hu felt his anger rising as he realized that police should be held accountable by the people.
The Middle-Aged Police Officer scrutinized Fei Hu from head to toe. When he noticed that Fei Hu's hairstyle didn't quite match his attire, he realized that this guy had probably just come out from somewhere inside. Such a person could be difficult to deal with. Hesitating for a moment and feeling somewhat reluctant, the officer pulled out his badge from his jacket pocket and briefly showed it to Fei Hu. However, Fei Hu only caught a glimpse of "Director Xu of Dongguan Police Station" before the officer quickly put it away.
At that moment, Fei Hu understood; this officer was enforcing law across jurisdictions without proper authorization from higher-ups. Realizing this, he said, "This area does not fall under Dongguan Police Station's jurisdiction, so please leave."
