The security captain knows best about Fei Hu's skills. If it comes to a fight, there probably isn't anyone in Sheng Wei who can match him. Fei Hu and Team Leader Wang lead the dismissed employees straight to the chairman's office. The receptionist didn't have time to report their arrival before the five barged in. Ye Wei, who was plotting something with Wang Qian, was startled by their sudden entrance. After regaining his composure, he nervously asked, "What do you want? I warn you not to act recklessly; be careful or I'll call the police. You won't get away with it."
"We just want an explanation for why this is happening," Team Leader Wang replied angrily. "If you call the police, that's fine; we still plan to sit in at the Labor Bureau. After working for this company for so many years, they think they can just let us go without any explanation? Do they really think labor laws are something they can make up themselves?" Team Leader Wang's words were few but reasonable, and Fei Hu thought he was doing great—something he usually doesn't show.
Ye Wei cleared his throat and pondered for a moment before saying, "I acknowledge the contributions you all have made to the company; I have seen it myself. However, this round of layoffs is truly unfortunate. Tomorrow they will also be cutting positions in logistics, and I hope you can understand. As for your demands, you can definitely speak with the head of HR for a proper discussion and get a satisfactory response."
Ye Wei was slippery like a fish; he pushed and pulled the conversation along. Fei Hu sneered and said, "Alright! Please have the chairman call Miss Li from HR in front of us so she can talk with us. If things go well, we won't cause any trouble; if not, then who knows what will happen."
Ye Wei suddenly looked up and saw that the one leading the conversation was Fei Hu. He felt quite displeased and said, "This doesn't seem to concern you much; others have several years of service while you've barely been here a year. What do you have to say? I advise you to take your salary and leave!"
Ye Wei's tone was somewhat aggressive, which irritated Fei Hu greatly. He stepped forward and coldly said, "Whether it concerns me or not is not for you to decide; it's determined by labor law." As Fei Hu spoke, his anger rose and his fists clenched tightly.
Wang Qian had been writing something with her head down since these people entered but finally looked up at this moment. She smiled at Fei Hu and said, "Hey! Don't get too worked up; the company isn't just laying off you few people. Yesterday in some departments even managers were let go without causing any trouble at all. So please be rational and go talk with Miss Li first; how about that?"
"That's not good!" With that voice, Ye Xiaofei walked in with an angry expression as several security guards hurriedly made way for her.
Upon seeing Ye Xiaofei, Wang Qian immediately fell silent and stepped back behind Ye Wei.
"I said we need to lay off some staff, and you should be the first to go. Keeping you around is of no use, and I have to pay you a high salary every month. Your salary could support five others, multiplied by two. So I've decided to let you go and keep those five," Ye Xiaofei said sternly, unceremoniously taking a seat in front of Ye Wei.
Ye Xiaofei's sudden intrusion made Ye Wei feel somewhat uneasy. He quickly put on a smile and said, "Xiaofei, that's a bit harsh. Vice President Wang is responsible for matters in Sheng Wei, and currently, we can't find anyone to replace her. If we dismiss her, who will take over her work?"
"I can do it, or we can hire someone else. Either way, she won't be doing it," Ye Xiaofei raised her voice, clearly furious.
"Xiaofei, don't be ridiculous. You need to understand that I'm the boss here at Sheng Wei. There are some things I don't want to discuss; it's best if everyone can get along," Ye Wei stood up, his tone carrying a hint of threat.
Ye Xiaofei slammed her hand on the table and said loudly, "The boss of Sheng Wei is the shareholders. Get it straight; this company isn't just yours. If you want to act like a dictator, forget it. As long as we hold a board meeting, do you think your chairman will still be able to keep going? Ye Xiaofei finally couldn't hold back; her slap made Ye Wei's heart tremble, and her words instilled a fear in this old fox that he had never felt before.
Seeing that Ye Wei was subdued by Ye Xiaofei, Wang Qian quickly smiled and said, "We're all here for the good of Sheng Wei. Whether I leave or they leave doesn't matter, but you two shouldn't fight amongst yourselves. After all, we're all educated individuals and part of Sheng Wei's top management; it would be embarrassing if word got out."
Upon hearing this, Ye Wei immediately took the opportunity to back down. He smiled and said, "We can discuss things properly; there's no need to get angry."
"Discuss? Did you consult me about this layoff? Do you treat me like air? If I don't speak up, you'll just lay me off tomorrow? Chairman Ye, let me make this clear: forty percent of the shares in Sheng Wei are under my grandfather's name. If I acquire eleven percent more, who do you think will be the first to leave Sheng Wei?" Ye Xiaofei might have been too agitated to keep such confidential information to herself since there were several outsiders present.
Ye Wei's expression changed drastically upon hearing this. He shouted with a dark face, "Don't go too far! I said we're laying off staff; everyone else get back to work! Fei Hu must be laid off!"
The situation suddenly took a complete turn; Ye Wei was ruthless in targeting Ye Xiaofei's weakness.
"Don't even think about it! I wasn't here for yesterday's layoffs; that’s fine. But today, without my signature, let's see who dares to lay anyone off! I remind some people that from today on, I will personally oversee the company seal," Ye Xiaofei refused to back down either, leaving Ye Wei with no face in front of so many people.
He anxiously pointed at Ye Xiaofei and shouted, "You... you... you're ruthless..."
Wang Qian waved her hand and said, "Fei Hu stays; everyone else go back to work! If you don't leave now, it means you agree to the layoffs!"
Team Leader Wang hurriedly patted Fei Hu on the shoulder and left with a few others. At that moment, Fei Hu felt much calmer. Just as they said, finding a job wouldn't be difficult for him now, so what was there to be afraid of? Thinking this, Fei Hu loudly declared, "I agree to be laid off. I'll handle the paperwork right now."
Fei Hu believed he was doing this for Ye Xiaofei, to give her an easy way out. However, he did not expect that his action would infuriate Ye Xiaofei even more. She grabbed the pen holder from Ye Wei's desk and threw it at Fei Hu while shouting, "You dare to leave! No one is allowed to leave Sheng Wei without my signature!" The pen holder smashed against the wall, scattering pens all over the floor.
Fei Hu's foot, which had just been raised, dropped back down in shock. He truly hadn't anticipated that his actions would only make Ye Xiaofei angrier. Had he been a bit hasty in his decision?
Wang Qian and Ye Wei were also taken aback. After a while, Wang Qian tried to mediate, saying, "No one is leaving; not a single person. For this round of layoffs, we won't cut security staff. We can just lay off a few more from other departments instead. Besides, Fei Hu is quite capable at work; he has not only gone to Hong Kong with me but has also helped out at the villa multiple times. He is quite the versatile talent; laying him off seems a bit thoughtless."
As Wang Qian spoke, he discreetly nudged Ye Wei when no one was paying attention. Ye Wei, still in shock, quickly replied, "You handle this; I have a social engagement and need to leave." With that, he got up and left the office.
Ye Xiaofei stood up and kicked the pen holder that had rolled to her feet with force. It bounced off the wall with a loud crash. Without even glancing at Fei Hu, Ye Xiaofei stormed out of the room.
Fei Hu was slightly stunned and was about to leave when Wang Qian said, "What’s wrong? You’re being so harsh on me without even saying thank you."
He initially thought about leaving it at that, but hearing Wang Qian say this made Fei Hu's temper flare up. He spun around and approached Wang Qian menacingly, coldly stating, "Thank you for what? Should I thank you for getting me laid off?"
"Come on! What are you talking about? Laying you off was the chairman's decision. That old guy is still holding a grudge over our trip to Hong Kong. He constantly suspects there's something going on between us and also thinks you’re too close to Ye Xiaofei. So when it came time for layoffs in security, your name was the first he mentioned. I even argued with him about it for your sake! But he's the chairman; how can I go against him?" Wang Qian said with a look of grievance.
Fei Hu sneered, "Whether or not I have anything to do with you is none of his business. Does your personal freedom belong to him?" Fei Hu said this deliberately.
Wang Qian couldn't help but blush slightly and replied softly, "It's none of your business; don't ask."
