At the Dongting Seafood Restaurant, Fei Hu stood downstairs, gazing at the dazzling sign in the night. He couldn't help but whisper to Yingzi, "This woman really knows how to pick a place, and seafood is definitely expensive."
"Be generous, will you? It's not like you're paying for it," Yingzi nudged Fei Hu playfully as they both laughed and headed upstairs.
Upon reaching the third floor, a beautiful hostess in a qipao approached them. "Sir, Miss, how many of you are there? Do you have a reservation?"
"General Room," Fei Hu replied, his eyes inadvertently wandering down to the high slit of the hostess's qipao.
Women dress up to please those they admire; the hostess smiled lightly and said softly, "This way to the General Room." After leading the way, Fei Hu found himself momentarily distracted by her beautiful legs exposed by the slit. Yingzi came over and discreetly pinched him on the arm, causing him to wince and rush forward.
The so-called General Room was actually not very large, accommodating only five or six people. As soon as Xu Yanfei saw Fei Hu and Yingzi, she waved them over to sit down. After exchanging a few polite words, Xu Yanfei picked up the menu to start ordering. When Fei Hu noticed she was ordering more than ten dishes, he felt uneasy and whispered, "Miss Xu, please order fewer dishes; there are only three of us, and it would be wasteful if we can't finish."
"Don't worry! I'm treating tonight; just enjoy yourselves. Seafood doesn't take up much space," Xu Yanfei said with a smile directed at Fei Hu.
Surprised that his little concern had been noticed, Fei Hu felt a bit embarrassed and scratched his head. Meanwhile, Yingzi, slightly annoyed, stretched her foot out from under the table and stepped hard on Fei Hu's foot, causing him to flinch.
Xu Yanfei, who was ordering dishes, looked startled and asked with concern, "What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
"Oh! It's just too hot in here; I can't find a comfortable spot," Fei Hu blurted out in a panic.
Xu Yanfei handed the menu to the waiter and said, "Please bring the dishes quickly and turn up the air conditioning; this gentleman is afraid of the heat." The waiter nodded and set the air conditioning to its lowest setting.
"Miss Xu, we hope we didn't disturb you by inviting you out!" Yingzi said politely.
Xu Yanfei tossed her hair back and replied, "Not at all! I'm actually quite happy about it. Besides, this gentleman knocked me over today; it's only right for us to have a meal together. I also enjoy making friends. You two seem like you've just come from out of town—so sensitive to the heat!"
Yingzi stood up and poured each person a cup of tea with a smile. "Miss Xu really has a keen eye! How could you tell we just arrived from out of town?"
"Ha ha! First of all, from your skin color, and this gentleman here, with the air conditioning turned up so high and still saying it's hot, these two points are enough. Oh! I forgot to ask you, what do you both call yourselves?" Xu Yanfei said, glancing at Fei Hu, who was focused on his phone.
Yingzi quickly apologized, "I'm sorry, we forgot about that. My surname is Yin, just call me Xiao Yin. He has the surname Zhu, like Zhu Bajie. You can call him Xiao Zhu or Lao Zhu. We are salespeople from the company, and he is my colleague."
Upon hearing Yingzi introduce him this way, Fei Hu was furious. What was wrong with this woman? She used to be quite gentle with him, but since coming to Nangang, she seemed to have turned into a different person, always looking for opportunities to bully him. He couldn't understand where he had offended her.
The dishes were quickly served, all kinds of fish and shrimp, along with some sea creatures that Fei Hu had never seen before, such as sea cucumbers. Xu Yanli introduced the names of the dishes to Fei Hu and Yingzi while eating. It was clear that she was not only a local but also frequently socialized; this was something Fei Hu hadn't noticed before.
Xu Yanfei smiled and asked Yingzi, "Your Mr. Pig here is so taciturn; how does he manage in sales? His performance must not be very good," she said while secretly glancing at Fei Hu.
Yingzi was really annoyed. This damn Fei Hu saw a woman he liked and acted like a fly attracted to rotten meat—impossible to shoo away. What was going on tonight? Xu Yanfei wasn't bad-looking; why wasn't he saying anything?
Yingzi thought to herself that if he wanted to embarrass her, it wouldn't work. She stood up and said to Fei Hu, "You chat with Miss Xu for a while; I need to go to the restroom." After saying that, she opened the door and left.
Now there were only two people left in the private room. If Fei Hu remained silent now, it would seem too rude. He smiled and said, "Miss Xu, you look really beautiful tonight."
"You're just saying that; I didn't dress up much—just changed my clothes," Miss Xu replied as she used serving chopsticks to pick a piece of fish for Fei Hu. He could feel that she seemed to have a very good impression of him.
Fei Hu realized he had flattered her incorrectly. Now that he looked closely, Miss Xu was indeed dressed quite casually: a white round-neck short-sleeve shirt paired with a black skirt. For some reason, when Fei Hu looked at her at that moment, he suddenly found her more attractive. Although her skin was a bit dark, her features were well-defined; there was nothing unattractive about her face. Unlike other women who exaggerated their makeup, hers was just right—slightly accentuated.
Seeing that Fei Hu was staring at her without speaking, she smiled shyly and said, "You are really straightforward; you don't hold back when looking at someone. Unlike the group of outsiders I entertained a few days ago—each one pretended to be a gentleman but were actually all lecherous wolves sneaking glances at me; it was disgusting," Miss Xu said as she covered her mouth and laughed.
Fei Hu then remembered that they had invited people out tonight not just for chatting but with a purpose in mind. Thinking of this, he smoothly followed up with a smile and asked, "You entertained outsiders recently too? Were they also salespeople like us?"
"No, they were just outside bosses renting our Breeding Farm space. It seems they brought in some goods from the dock that couldn't be transported back immediately and needed somewhere to store them temporarily before moving them out again," Xu Yanfei said without any guard.
Fei Hu moved his chair closer to Xu Yanfei and poured her a cup of tea with a smile, saying, "You Southerners don't drink while eating? I feel quite unaccustomed to it."
"Want to drink? Then let's have some! I'll drink with you, but let me make it clear first: after we drink, we won't talk business. If you want to pitch us your products, that's fine; come down and we can discuss it in detail later. This is a rule I've followed for many years. The key is that I see you as quite sincere, unlike some other salespeople who come to the table talking about money right away. It's really tacky and a bit unbearable," Xu Yanfei said, shaking her head helplessly.
Wow! So she thought they were here to sell something. No wonder! Fei Hu had thought it was something else... It seemed he was being overly sentimental; this was the annoying thing about men, always thinking too highly of themselves.
Fei Hu was taken aback and quickly replied, "Well said! Let's just drink tonight and not talk about work. After a long day at work, I'm completely worn out; now is the time to relax, right? How about we have some white liquor? I heard that you shouldn't drink beer with seafood."
"Who said that? There's no basis for it. We've been drinking beer with seafood for years without any issues. If you prefer white liquor, I'll join you for a bit. After all, you're guests from out of town," Xu Yanfei said with increasing enthusiasm as she stood up and walked toward the door. Fei Hu knew she was going to get the waiter for drinks, so he stayed seated.
Watching Xu Yanfei's legs under her black short skirt—though not very fair, they were evenly proportioned and graceful—Fei Hu couldn't help but let his imagination wander. Just then, Yingzi pushed the door open and walked in. When she saw Xu Yanfei was gone, she exclaimed, "Where did she go? Who's she with?"
Fei Hu replied slowly, "She went to get drinks."
"Wow, she's really getting into it. I underestimated you; I thought you only knew how to look at women, but it seems you're quite skilled at charming them too," Yingzi said while winking at Fei Hu.
Fei Hu straightened up and pointed at Yingzi seriously, saying, "Listen carefully: she thinks we're here looking for her to sell us products, so be careful what you say later."
"Oh please! I figured that out long ago. Do you really think you're irresistible? Just keep admiring yourself!" Yingzi laughed, burying her face in her arms. Seeing this, Fei Hu was about to pounce on her and give her a couple of playful punches.
Suddenly, the door opened again, and Xu Yanfei walked in holding a bottle of white liquor. She sat down and smiled slightly, saying, "Sorry about that; this bottle is one I stored here last time. I've only opened the cap and haven't taken a sip. You don't mind, do you?"
Fei Hu and Yingzi quickly replied, "No problem," as the liquor was poured into their cups. Instantly, a rich aroma of alcohol filled the entire room.
