After more than a day's journey, Chen Hui and Fei Hu had become quite familiar with each other. Whenever they had a moment, they would sit together and chat. Fei Hu even took the initiative to help her clean up, earning praise from the passengers on the train. Fei Hu took pride in this, enjoying it more and more, as if he were the conductor of this train car, while Chen Hui was merely there to assist.
All good things must come to an end. At Yingzi's strong insistence, Fei Hu and Yingzi got off the train at the station before Shanghang, while Xiao Xi left the train. Chen Hui stood on the platform, watching them leave, feeling a sense of reluctance that even made Fei Hu feel an impulse to stay behind.
Yingzi glanced at the sentimental Fei Hu and said with a smile, "Young man, since ancient times, those who are passionate often end up with regrets. If heaven has feelings, it too will grow old. You should seize the moment; you can't just like everyone you meet! Sister Xiaofei is not someone to be trifled with."
"What are you talking about? Who likes everyone? We just get along well," Fei Hu made a face. However, Yingzi's words startled him. Ye Xiaofei was his goddess; no woman could replace her in his heart. Yet thinking of her temper still made Fei Hu feel a bit apprehensive.
Xiao Xi was from a small county town. After asking locals for directions, Fei Hu found the largest hotel there. To have some comfort, he booked a suite. Once back in the room, they both took a shower and then Fei Hu accompanied Yingzi to the local hospital to change her bandage. Fortunately, Yingzi's wound was healing very well, likely due to her strong constitution.
After leaving the hospital, both felt relaxed. The worries of recent days and their relentless travel seemed to fade away here.
With blue skies and white clouds above, green grass below, leisurely people around, and joyful children playing, Fei Hu and Yingzi sat on the lush grass of People's Park, fully enjoying this rare moment.
"If only I could live like this every day, I would be content. I'm so unaccustomed to people fighting over interests and power; it's really meaningless," Fei Hu said sincerely as he looked at Yingzi's smiling face.
"Haha! You really know how to think! Life is all about struggle; we survive and develop through conflict. Don't you know the saying 'born in worry and die in comfort'? People and nations operate on the same principle; only by constantly growing stronger can you gain social status and earn respect from others. If you remain obscure and achieve nothing, you'll only suffer," Yingzi explained her reasoning thoroughly. However, Fei Hu felt that she did make some valid points.
Just as they were enjoying this rare moment, suddenly there was commotion on the lawn as several young men dressed in security uniforms approached. One tall and somewhat imposing guy shouted, "Walking on the grass and damaging public property will result in a fine of fifty each!"
This announcement caused many young men and women to stand up. However, it was too late; some reluctantly paid up to avoid trouble and left. Only one couple remained; they neither paid nor left.
The Big Security Guard shouted again, "Pay your fines! What's wrong with you?"
"I won't pay. This is a place for citizens to relax. What do you mean by trampling the lawn? This stone bench is right on the lawn; how could I not walk on it?" The young man replied, indignant.
The Big Security Guard waved his baton and sneered, "Hey! Are you trying to resist? Everyone else has paid and left, and you're the only one being stubborn. Let's see if your skin is tougher than my baton." As he spoke, he made a move as if to strike, and several other security guards closed in from the side.
Fei Hu couldn't sit still any longer. In broad daylight, such things were happening; it was clearly extortion. Just as he was about to step in and argue, Yingzi pulled him back and said, "Don't be impulsive. They'll come looking for you soon enough. Aren't you sitting on the lawn too?" Fei Hu realized she was right.
At that moment, the girl with the young man shouted, "If you dare to hit anyone, I'll call the police! Do you believe me?"
Upon hearing this, the Big Security Guard hesitated slightly; he was still somewhat concerned. He smirked and said, "Go ahead! We're maintaining public order here; the police will support us."
While they were in a heated argument, two chubby guys among those who came with the Big Security Guard noticed Fei Hu and Yingzi sitting on the lawn without moving. They exchanged glances and walked over. One of them had a noticeable scar on his forehead—either from a fight or a knife wound.
"Hey! Pay up! You two seem quite comfortable sitting there; do you want to experience what it's like to be hit with a baton?" Scarred Face shouted at Fei Hu and Yingzi.
Fei Hu pulled Yingzi up and stood up himself. He brushed off the dust from his pants nonchalantly and pretended not to know anything as he asked, "Pay for what?"
"Hey! It's a fine! Trampling the lawn costs fifty each; that's a hundred bucks for both of you. Hurry up and pay!" Scarred Face shouted loudly while stepping closer to Fei Hu and Yingzi.
Fei Hu smirked and said, "This is a public relaxation area; where does this fine come from? Who gave you the authority?"
"Hahaha! Citizens? You bunch of workers dare to call yourselves citizens? If you don't pay, we'll take you all away!" Scarred Face twitched his facial muscles and waved his hand. Several security guards in uniforms really lunged at Fei Hu.
Thinking that they could bully him because he seemed harmless was a mistake. Enraged, Fei Hu moved slightly, and the three surrounding security guards fell onto the lawn. The security captain who had been grappling with the Young Man saw Fei Hu's display of strength and hurried over, whispering, "Scarred Face, this guy is tough; we should retreat for now and deal with him later."
"Hmph! I like tough challenges; let's see how capable he really is," Scarred Face said as he loosened two buttons at his collar and took a stance.
Fei Hu glanced at the two people in front of him, wondering about the relationship between the captain and Scarred Face. He couldn't quite figure it out, but he decided not to dwell on it. Regardless of who they were, there would be no extortion; he would fight back without hesitation.
Scarred Face shrugged, moved his feet, extended his left fist, and with his right hand clawed towards Fei Hu's right shoulder. Fei Hu didn't expect this chubby guy to have some skills. He couldn't afford to be careless; he leaned to the side, slipped his foot, and swung his left hand, colliding perfectly with Scarred Face's right arm. Fei Hu felt a tingle in his arm. Wow! This guy had great strength; it turned out he was not just a bully.
Scarred Face also looked alarmed as he quickly stepped back. He couldn't believe that this young man had such power. It seemed he had overestimated himself today. The place was already crowded with onlookers, and when they saw someone fighting with the security guards, they all gathered around. Faced with so many people, Scarred Face felt trapped and couldn't move.
With an injury on his right shoulder, Fei Hu didn't want to escalate things further. Moreover, considering Yingzi's situation, if these security guards attacked all at once and hurt her, it would be a big problem. Thinking of this, Fei Hu decided to remain still; if they didn't move, he wouldn't either.
At that critical moment, the crowd suddenly stirred as a man and a woman shouted, "Police! It's these guys in security uniforms who have been issuing fines here these past few days!"
Fei Hu quickly turned his head to see that it was the young couple who had just refused to pay the fine. They were running ahead with several police officers following them. Everyone parted to make way for them.
Scarred Face didn't expect anyone would dare to call the police. His expression changed as he hurriedly retreated behind the security captain. From his demeanor, it was clear that they were in trouble for issuing fines without justification.
"Stop hiding, Scarred Face! You really haven't changed at all. You've only been out for a few days and are already causing trouble here again. Who told you to issue fines indiscriminately?" asked a Male Police Officer in his forties.
The security captain hurriedly stepped forward and chuckled, " Director Zhang, I apologize for bothering you with this trivial matter. Here's the situation: we have such a nice recreational area here, but these outsiders don't appreciate it and trample on the flowers and grass. We couldn't stand by any longer and formed a temporary security team ourselves."
Director Zhang's expression turned serious as he said loudly, "This is utter nonsense! Take them all away! Those who were fined just now should come with us to the West District Police Station to get their money back."
As he watched the group being taken away, someone finally gave Fei Hu a thumbs up and said, "Young man, you did great! You really stood up for us."
