Fortunately, when Fei Hu and the others were in the rental car, the police had just lifted their alert, and there was silence in the car as everyone seemed lost in their own thoughts. By the time they returned to Chen Hui's home, it was already late, and Chen Hui had drunk too much and felt unwell, so she went to bed first.
Fei Hu had something on her mind. After sitting in her room for a while, she went to Yingzi's door. Just as she was about to knock, she noticed that the door was ajar. She pushed it open and walked in, and Yingzi gestured for her to close the door tightly.
"What's going on? Did you make the call?" Fei Hu asked eagerly as soon as she sat down.
Yingzi replied expressionlessly, "The police are all out tonight. All shipments from Donggang have been seized. It seems only three vehicles made it into Shanghang; the other five were intercepted along the way."
"Oh, a coordinated operation. It looks like this time things have really escalated. I wonder if Ye Wu will suspect that we had a hand in this," Fei Hu asked with some concern.
Yingzi thought for a moment and said, "I don't think so. Ni Ling and the others did very well; they used the excuse of tracking down a murderer and happened to stumble upon them. Besides, those people have all fled, leaving only the vehicles behind. If we were behind this, the police would have gone straight to Ye Wu's house to arrest him by now. Ye Wu can figure that out himself."
Hearing this, Fei Hu let out a sigh of relief and said, "Let's hope that's the case; otherwise, once we return to A City, we would become their targets. It would be impossible for us to live a peaceful life."
"I've been completely exposed this time, but your identity is still somewhat vague to them. So when you go back, just continue with your work; there's nothing to worry about. Besides, if anything happens, you still have an older brother from the Dragon Tiger Gang backing you up. Although his influence isn't large right now, remember that a dead camel is bigger than a horse," Yingzi said lightly as she gently patted Fei Hu's shoulder.
Fei Hu smiled faintly; in truth, he wasn't too worried. The worst-case scenario was that he could just leave A City. After all, it's not like they owned all of China. However, he felt reluctant to leave everything familiar behind—his beloved woman, friends—everything was hard for him to let go of.
"Alright, you should go back and get some sleep too; if you sit here too long, Chen Hui's family might start wondering," Yingzi said with a shy smile.
Fei Hu paused for a moment and shook his head helplessly; he really didn't want to leave.
The next day, Fei Hu woke up early. The air in the countryside was fresh. He stood on Chen Hui's balcony stretching his limbs while listening to various birds chirping; it felt truly wonderful.
"So early," Yingzi said as she opened the door and walked out.
Fei Hu nodded at her and softly said, "I think we should leave here early. I thought about it for a long time last night; this really isn't good and could unintentionally hurt others."
"You should have thought of this earlier. During breakfast, I'll say that there's an urgent notice from work; anyway, Chen Hui isn't very clear about our identities right now," Yingzi whispered very softly.
Fei Hu nodded and walked towards the restroom.
Chen Hui got up a bit late, and by the time she finished washing up, everyone was already seated at the dining table waiting for her.
"Sorry, I really drank too much last night. Once I fell asleep, I just didn't want to get up," Chen Hui said as she sat down.
Chen Hui's Mother glanced at her daughter and said with concern, "You child, inviting people over to have fun and then getting yourself drunk first. Is there anyone like you? If I were a guest, I would definitely leave in a huff."
Chen Hui smiled awkwardly and asked, "What happened last night? Who among you has such connections that you got a free meal? It wouldn't be that some boss knows you, would it?"
Yingzi chuckled and said, "Not really. But last night when Wang Yun's brother came to cause trouble, there was a woman wearing glasses who stood at the door and watched the whole thing through the glass window. As soon as she left, the KTV staff showed up."
"Was this woman particularly charming, with a great figure, looking like she was in her thirties?" Chen Hui said excitedly, seeming quite familiar with her.
"Pretty much. She was standing outside the door, so I couldn't see her very clearly," Yingzi replied after thinking for a moment.
Chen Hui served everyone some porridge and smiled, saying, "She is indeed the boss of this KTV, named Tang Lan. In reality, she's over forty years old. With her makeup on, people who don't know her would think she's in her twenties or thirties. She's quite impressive; her KTV is the most popular in Shanghang. However, she's very cold and not like other bosses in this industry who have a bad reputation. It seems she has never married; everyone calls her Cold Peony behind her back."
"Hey, you know quite a bit! What happened last night? That monkey went to the KTV to cause trouble; he really doesn't care about his reputation and wants everyone in Shanghang to know about it," Chen Hui's Mother seemed quite annoyed by this monkey.
At this point, Chen Hui became even more animated. She laughed and said, "You wouldn't believe it! When the monkey came to the KTV last night, he brought a few people with him. He thought Wang Yun couldn't do anything to him as usual. But his shameless behavior angered our Tiger Brother, and he ended up getting beaten up badly; all four of them were lying on the floor in no time. It was truly embarrassing!"
"What? You mean Fei Hu took down all four of them by himself? This monkey seems to be involved in some shady business; fighting should be his specialty. How come he turned out to be such a coward against Fei Hu?" Chen Hui's Mother laughed while glancing at Fei Hu several times.
Chen Hui smiled and said, "It's all because Fei Hu is skilled. Now it's good; that monkey won't dare to bother Wang Yun anymore."
"This kid should have been dealt with long ago. But nowadays, people just want to protect themselves and stay out of it; no one cares. In such a big village, it was only when Fei Hu showed up that things started moving. Otherwise, this kid would really think he's invincible," Chen Hui's Dad said happily, indicating that this monkey had become like a rat running across the street.
After finishing breakfast, Yingzi immediately announced their decision to leave, which made Chen Hui very unhappy. However, when she heard it was due to an urgent notice from work, she understood and said warmly, "Remember to stop by next time you pass through."
Fei Hu smiled and said, "How could I? I haven't had enough of this place yet; it's definitely more comfortable than living in City A. The air is fresh and filled with birdsong and flowers; it's truly like a paradise."
Fei Hu's words were like a stimulant, and Chen Hui's face blossomed with a beautiful smile again.
Although everyone had spent little time together and was about to leave, there was a sense of reluctance. Chen Hui's parents especially urged Fei Hu to come over to their house to play if he had the time. The kindness of the two elders deeply touched Fei Hu.
As they waved goodbye, when the rental car heading to Shanghai slowly started moving, Fei Hu suddenly saw Wang Yun standing at the edge of the street. She did not move forward but instead watched them leave with eyes full of reluctance.
After the car had driven for a while, the driver asked, "Where in Shanghai are you going?"
Yingzi pondered for a moment and said, "Take us to the hotel in Shanghai with the best surroundings."
The driver thought for a while and replied, "Then let's go to West Lake Hotel. It has mountains and water, and the environment is very nice, though it might be a bit expensive."
"That's fine, driver. We'll go there," Yingzi answered decisively. Fei Hu was puzzled as to why Yingzi suddenly had this idea; he thought they would head straight back to City A. It seemed that circumstances had changed a bit.
West Lake Hotel was truly a five-star hotel, seemingly designed specifically for foreign guests. Its prices were nearly half again as much as similar hotels, but the room's decor and standards were indeed impressive. Opening the window revealed a lush green golf course, which was quite comforting to behold.
Fei Hu turned back to look at Yingzi, who was lying on the sofa with her eyes closed, resting. He softly asked, "What made you suddenly think of coming here? Is there some change in circumstances?"
Yingzi shook her head, opened her eyes, smiled, and said, "This trip has been quite nerve-wracking for you too. Besides, all expenses for this trip will be reimbursed by Sister Xiofei. You should enjoy yourself a bit. Also, we can't just go back like this; you need to remember that you're visiting family and should have the appearance of a family visit. So this afternoon we’ll go out and buy some things for you to take home; that makes more sense."
Fei Hu listened and nodded in admiration at Yingzi's reasoning.
