The woman who walked out was none other than Helena, the former head of the Human Resources Department at Shengwei Group Company. How could it be her? Helena was also taken aback when she first saw Fei Hu, and the two of them stood there momentarily stunned.
After a while, Helena regained her composure and quickly said, "Let's eat! The dining area upstairs has private rooms." As she spoke, Alina winked at Fei Hu, as if giving him a hint. It was then that Fei Hu noticed there were already quite a few customers at the dining tables on the first floor.
Once they reached the second floor, Helena arranged for Fei Hu to sit in a small room and brought over a pot of hot tea before rushing downstairs to prepare the meal. When everything was ready and she saw Fei Hu devouring his food, Helena couldn't help but smile awkwardly and asked, "What's going on with you? Why are you back here? Did something happen?" She asked several questions in quick succession.
After finishing his meal and feeling a bit more settled, Fei Hu wiped his mouth and sighed, "Yes, I ran into some minor trouble. I didn't expect to end up here." As he spoke, he glanced at Helena sitting across from him. It had been a while since they last met, and she seemed more mature and feminine, looking noticeably slimmer.
"You've been in A City for over a year now, right? Your personality hasn't changed at all. Some things can't be changed by our individual efforts; it's best not to get involved. Why put yourself in danger every time? You really should take better care of your life," Helena said with genuine concern for Fei Hu.
Fei Hu smiled and changed the subject, asking, "What are you doing here? Your family seems to live in the city. Why did you leave without saying goodbye? By the time I returned to Shengwei, you were already gone. What happened?"
"Ah! Don't mention it. I did something really inappropriate and felt too ashamed to see you again. Besides, Shengwei is too complicated internally; if we aren't careful, we could become stepping stones for others. So after careful consideration, I left Shengwei. This little restaurant is run by my boyfriend and me; we earn as much in a month as we did working jobs. Plus, I'm quite free; I just come here to help out when I can. If I don't come, it's fine because we have workers. I've realized that this kind of life actually suits me best," Helena said with a happy smile on her face.
"Wow! That's great; contentment brings happiness. Your boyfriend? When are you getting married?" Fei Hu asked while drinking beer. He felt much better now; it was true what they said: people are like iron and meals are like steel—missing one meal makes one feel anxious.
Helena smiled slightly and said, "We're planning for New Year's! But it's really just a formality." As she spoke, she lowered her head shyly.
Suddenly, Fei Hu thought about marriage too, but who would he marry?
Just as he was feeling down about it, his phone suddenly rang. He opened it to see that Yingzi was calling. Fei Hu quickly answered the call and heard Yingzi's urgent voice on the other end: "Fei Hu! Where are you right now? You should be okay, right?"
Hearing this made Fei Hu's heart skip a beat; from her tone, it seemed like Yingzi had encountered some new situation as well. After pausing for a moment, he quietly replied, "I've been followed; it seems I can't stay at the glove factory anymore. Just now, someone chased me to a village; I'm eating right now."
"Oh! I'm glad you're okay. During this time, make sure not to show your face. Ye Wu seems to be making big moves; just now he personally led people to take control of the Western Wholesale Market. Brother Dong was seriously injured and is in the hospital. Grandpa wants us to retreat completely; he doesn't want to force a confrontation because our strength really can't match theirs. So you need to be careful too," Yingzi explained the situation briefly to Fei Hu over the phone.
It was clear that Yingzi was very busy; it seemed like she was driving. Fei Hu said a couple of things before hanging up the phone.
Helena had been sitting quietly until Fei Hu finished the call. She then softly said, "We're in the countryside here, it's safer. Why don't you stay? Once everything settles down, you can go back. I'll prepare a room for you right away; you can have some drinks while you wait, okay?" Helena said as she stood up.
Fei Hu quickly shook her head and anxiously replied, "No, no! I don't want to trouble you. I'm not used to staying at your place; it would be awkward for everyone. Just help me find a small hotel, I won't be here long, maybe I'll head back to the city tonight."
Helena thought for a moment and nodded, saying, "Alright then! Once you've eaten and are ready, come downstairs. I'll drive you. There aren't any decent hotels around here; I'll take you to the town where conditions are better. It's only about ten minutes by car." After saying this, without waiting for Fei Hu's response, she turned and went downstairs.
Fei Hu considered this option; it made sense to fill her stomach first since she didn't know when her next meal would be. With that thought in mind, she hurriedly finished all the food on the table and then straightened her back as she headed downstairs.
Once downstairs, Helena walked over with a smile and said, "Are you full? If you're full, we can go."
Fei Hu nodded and was about to take out her money when Helena pulled her outside the shop with a hint of annoyance in her voice, "If you keep this up, be careful I might get angry." Seeing that Helena was genuinely upset, Fei Hu decided not to insist further and followed her into a Volkswagen parked at the entrance.
During the drive, they chatted about Sheng Wei. When Fei Hu mentioned that she had left Sheng Wei, Helena wasn't surprised at all. She laughed and said, "That's normal. Wang Qian and Ye Wei are such a pair; I knew about their relationship long ago. They've been using that connection to collude and do many things detrimental to Sheng Wei. As someone just working there, I couldn't care less about them."
Fei Hu couldn't help but nod in agreement; Helena was right. If she hadn't gotten involved in their mess, she might still be working at Sheng Wei now.
"Alright, this is it. This hotel is quite nice; I arranged for several friends to stay here last time I came," Helena said as she parked in front of the hotel. Fei Hu opened the car door and got out.
Helena was absolutely right—the room was spacious and bright, elegantly decorated. Upon entering, one immediately felt at home. After completing all the check-in procedures, Helena reluctantly said goodbye; after all, there were boundaries between men and women, and she was about to get married. Moreover, it would give off a bad impression if a man and woman entered a hotel together at the same time; leaving was indeed the wisest choice. Fei Hu thought Helena handled this situation particularly well.
Alone in the room, Fei Hu either watched TV or slept—she had no other thoughts on her mind. Her eyes were glued to the screen while her mind wandered back to a year ago when she was being hunted down and eventually met Sun Li. Then she ended up at Sheng Wei. Now here she was again, being chased after just one year—was this all fate?
Fei Hu found it hard to understand; just as she gripped her hair tightly in frustration, she realized it had grown quite long since then. Suddenly, she felt an urge to keep it long. Back then, it was her long hair that attracted Little Four and his gang's pursuit across A City; now it seemed necessary for her to maintain that long hair again.
Suddenly, the phone rang, and Fei Hu hurriedly answered it. A-Lian's anxious voice came through, "Fei Hu, are the people looking for you from the Dragon Tiger Gang? I just went to file a report, and the police told me to lay low. You can tell they are wary of something. Plus, there have been yellow-haired guys loitering around the factory gate since this morning. It seems they are serious this time."
"It's fine. I won't be going back to the glove factory anytime soon. You and Xiao Qi should remind everyone to stay indoors if they can. After this period passes, everything will be fine," Fei Hu advised A-Lian before hanging up.
You can wait a lifetime if you want! I won't be going back to that place. With that thought, Fei Hu let out a long sigh. He closed his eyes helplessly, listening to the sounds of fighting on the television, feeling an overwhelming surge of emotions.
"You useless bunch! You've lost track of him again. A city this big makes it a bit troublesome to find him now," Little Four said, standing with his hands behind his back while glaring at a group of yellow-haired men.
Suddenly, his phone buzzed in his pocket. Upon hearing it, Little Four's expression tightened, and he quickly whispered, "Okay! I'll be there shortly."
Around three in the afternoon, Little Four appeared at the entrance of A-Mei Hair Salon. He looked around to confirm that no one was following him before slipping inside and heading straight to a room in the back.
Inside the room, his aunt was half-reclining on the sofa in a black qipao that accentuated her beautiful figure. She glanced at Little Four standing before her and waved her hand, saying, "Sit down! I need to talk to you."
Little Four lowered his head and replied softly, "I think it's better if I stand." It was clear that he was very afraid of this woman for reasons unknown. Even when she invited him to sit, he didn't dare to lift his head upon entering.
His aunt straightened up and lowered her voice, saying, "Little Four, you've disappointed me greatly. You can't even handle a small security guard; he's running all over the place. Can't you do anything about him?" A hint of displeasure crossed her delicate face, clearly indicating her dissatisfaction with Little Four, which he seemed to realize.
After a brief pause, she continued, "This time, you must make good use of Ye Wu's opportunity to deal with Fei Hu. We need to either eliminate him or ensure he never shows up in A City again. If you miss this chance, I won't let you off easily."
Little Four nodded vigorously like a chick pecking at rice and repeatedly said, "I understand. This time I'll make sure that kid completely disappears from A City."
