It is often said that women have a lot of trouble when going out, mainly because they carry so many things. However, Tang Lan is not like that. Fei Hu noticed that her suitcase was about the same size as his, and this woman was quite peculiar; she pulled her suitcase herself and didn’t let Fei Hu or Xiao Lan touch it at all.
Tang Lan walked ahead with her suitcase, dressed in a white casual sports outfit paired with international brand sneakers, exuding a graceful demeanor that conveyed an indescribable beauty.
Fei Hu quickened his pace to keep up with Tang Lan. He was out this time as her bodyguard, so he had to stay close to her at all times. Suddenly, he heard the sound of someone pulling a suitcase behind him. When he turned around, it was none other than Xiao Lan, who was hurrying up with a suitcase of her own that wasn’t very big.
Fei Hu extended his hand generously and smiled, saying, “Let me take the suitcase! You can go back; you don’t need to see us off. I can handle this by myself.”
Xiao Lan smiled slightly and replied, “I’m going with you.”
Fei Hu widened his eyes in confusion. Tang Lan stopped walking and said with a smile, “Xiao Lan is coming with us to take care of our needs. I didn’t mention it beforehand; please understand.” With that, she turned and continued walking.
Xiao Lan smiled and followed after her. Fei Hu stood there for a moment, shaking his head helplessly before following them. It seemed he had overestimated himself; Tang Lan didn’t fully trust him and hadn’t informed him about the trip to Vietnam. What annoyed him was that Xiao Lan had spent so much time shopping with him yesterday afternoon but hadn’t mentioned she would also be going to Vietnam. It appeared that Tang Lan’s way of doing things was very meticulous, so he needed to be cautious.
Just in time, they passed through security and sat in the waiting area for a short while before hearing the announcement for boarding. The three seats were connected together, and without hesitation, Tang Lan sat down at the back. Fei Hu hesitated for a moment; he thought it would be better to sit at the end. If he sat according to the seat number, he would be in the middle. Being sandwiched between two women would be uncomfortable, especially sitting next to Tang Lan—he wasn’t going to do that.
Tang Lan seemed to see through Fei Hu’s thoughts; she smiled slightly and said, “You should sit in the middle. I have something to say to you.” Hearing this made Fei Hu’s heart skip a beat; this woman was truly something else—how could she read his mind so easily? It seemed he was too transparent in his actions.
After placing their luggage properly, Fei Hu took the middle seat. Tang Lan tilted her head slightly and smiled, saying, “Are you really this unfamiliar with me? I don’t think it’s necessary. As I said before, we are not friends. From now on, you and I are on the same level. There’s no need for you to take action; Xiao Lan can handle everything for us. You need to remember this, especially when we get to Vietnam. Do you understand?”
Fei Hu shook his head and said, “I don’t understand.” He truly didn’t understand; hadn’t Tang Lan asked him to be her bodyguard? Wasn’t being a bodyguard supposed to involve taking action? So when Tang Lan asked him this question, he could only answer truthfully.
“It doesn’t matter if you don’t understand; just do as I say,” Tang Lan replied before leaning back against her seat and closing her eyes to rest. Fei Hu took a deep breath and caught a faint fragrance wafting from Tang Lan—a unique scent that he particularly liked. He remembered the last time he smelled this fragrance on her; it lingered in his mind for several days afterward.
What kind of identity does this Xiao Lan have? Fei Hu couldn't help but glance at her. He saw Xiao Lan give him a faint smile without saying a word. If it weren't for her dressing up today, Fei Hu wouldn't have noticed how beautiful she was; just yesterday, he had regarded her as just a maid.
There is a saying that people judge by appearances, and it holds true. With Xiao Lan dressed like this, who would know that her identity was merely that of a maid? Fei Hu felt there must be some little secret behind this; otherwise, why would Tang Lan take a maid to Vietnam? She wasn't living there permanently.
Just as Fei Hu was pondering this question, the flight attendant on the plane began explaining safety procedures. The flight attendant spoke energetically, but the passengers were indifferent, doing their own things. Fei Hu looked around and shook his head helplessly.
Before takeoff, the flight attendant specifically checked to ensure everyone's seatbelts were fastened. Seeing that Tang Lan was sleeping soundly, Fei Hu got up to fasten her seatbelt. The space between the seats was limited, and while fastening Tang Lan's seatbelt, his hand inadvertently made contact with her body. However, she showed no intention of avoiding it, revealing her generosity and openness.
At the moment the plane took off, Tang Lan suddenly woke up in alarm, nervously grabbing Fei Hu's arm before slowly letting go.
As the plane flew through the clouds under the blue sky, Fei Hu's mind was in turmoil. He didn't know what kind of situation awaited him in Vietnam. Since he had promised to help someone, he should do it well; however, fulfilling this promise would inevitably come at a heavy cost to himself. Lost in thought, Fei Hu eventually fell asleep.
A sudden violent shaking jolted Fei Hu awake from his sweet dreams. The plane was swaying left and right, feeling as if it were rising and falling. In a panic, Tang Lan tightly grabbed Fei Hu's arm; he could feel her tension. Yet Xiao Lan remained calm and still in her seat.
Gradually, the plane's flight returned to normal. The flight attendant came out to explain and apologize to everyone, saying that the plane had just encountered strong turbulence but everything was fine now and they could relax.
Tang Lan let out a sigh of relief and patted her slightly elevated chest, saying, "That was really scary! I hardly slept last night and planned to catch up on sleep on Fei Hu's shoulder; it seems that hope is dashed. Sigh! I won't sleep anymore. Xiao Lan, get that little briefcase out; I need to talk to Fei Hu about something since no one can sleep anyway."
Tang Lan opened the briefcase Xiao Lan had given her and pulled out two photos. Pointing at a middle-aged man in one of them who looked to be in his fifties, she said: "This man is Cheng Yong; he's about 1.7 meters tall, slightly overweight, and speaks with a Guangxi accent." As she spoke, she handed the photo to Fei Hu.
Fei Hu took the photo and saw a man with thick eyebrows and small eyes; his nose seemed slightly hooked. Especially his large mouth seemed quite mismatched with his face; he couldn't quite pinpoint what was wrong with it. Looking at this man's appearance made Fei Hu feel that he wasn't someone good-natured. Although he couldn't read faces well, from his experience dealing with people, he could confidently say that Tang Lan must have misjudged him; this guy had an appearance that suggested he could be dangerous.
"What do you think? How do you feel about this person?" Tang Lan asked with a smile.
After pondering for a while, Fei Hu finally said, "This person gives you a very bad impression. I feel he is a schemer, two-faced with friends, and can hide his true thoughts very deeply. At over fifty years old, having struggled in the business world for so many years, it is very likely that he is cunning, adept at navigating situations, and perhaps even a bit malicious."
"Hahaha! You could practically start a fortune-telling business with that insight. You're absolutely right. When I first met him, I felt very comfortable being friends with him. However, as our cooperation deepened, all his flaws became apparent. Calling him treacherous is not an exaggeration at all. He truly is two-faced with friends, which greatly diminishes my impression of him. Oh! There's one thing you haven't mentioned: he is extremely lecherous, but he hides this very well; most people wouldn't even notice," Tang Lan said with a lowered voice and a smile.
"Lecherousness is common among successful people. Look at those big stars and wealthy individuals; if they have money, they either chase women or keep young lovers. Where else would they spend their money? For them, it might even be a fashion statement. Am I right?" Fei Hu said with a strange smile on his face.
Tang Lan rolled her eyes at Fei Hu and nodded slightly, saying, "True, but not entirely correct; after all, there are still those who are not like that." Fei Hu didn't understand that Tang Lan was implying she did not belong to that category.
Tang Lan handed Cheng Yong's photo to Xiao Lan again and then took out a woman's photo and passed it to Fei Hu. Fei Hu was taken aback when he saw the woman in the photo; she appeared to be around thirty years old. While she wasn't exceptionally beautiful, there was something about her that made one feel captivated at first glance, especially her red, sensual lips.
"What do you think? Pretty?" Tang Lan asked softly.
Fei Hu shook his head and said, "Not particularly beautiful, but this woman has something that makes men yearn for her; I can't quite put it into words." As he spoke, he lowered his head slightly in embarrassment. After all, compared to Tang Lan in terms of experience and social skills, he felt quite inferior.
Hearing Fei Hu's response, Tang Lan scoffed and said, "It seems you have quite a few women around you too. All men are the same; I thought you were different, but you're really just the same as everyone else. This woman is Ouyang Hua, Cheng Yong's personal secretary—essentially just a mistress. It is said that she has extensive connections in Vietnam, both in the underworld and legitimate circles. I suspect many things are tied to this woman," Tang Lan finished speaking and snatched the photo of Ouyang Hua from Fei Hu's hand as if afraid he would look at it any longer.
Fei Hu couldn't help but sneer; he was a normal man with flesh and blood—why couldn't he have women around him?
Suddenly, Fei Hu jolted as Tang Lan looked out the window and said, "We're here; Fei Hu is starting to descend."
Upon hearing they had arrived in Vietnam, Fei Hu felt a tightening in his chest. He didn't know what awaited him.
