As soon as Ouyang Hua's voice fell, more than ten men armed with handguns surged out from the woods. Each of them looked tough and capable. At the back was an elderly man in his fifties. Although his hair was completely white, his complexion was rosy, and he walked with a strong gait.
"Huang Lao Qi, why are you here joining this commotion? You are one of the older generations of our people in Vietnam, and your words and actions carry weight. But this Ouyang Hua is nothing but a scoundrel; even someone like me who treats him well has been betrayed by him. Why are you helping her?" Cheng Yong shouted towards the group down the mountain, ignoring Xiaolan's attempts to pull him back.
The old man took a big step forward and said to Cheng Yong in the cave, "Boss Cheng, you should know that people die for wealth, and birds die for food. I'm not helping Ouyang Hua; she offered me a high price because my brothers also need to make a living." As he spoke, the old man led his subordinates step by step toward the cave.
Although Fei Hu had never handled a real gun, he could tell that these men were not just trying to scare anyone. He quickly told Xiaolan, "Get Tang Zong to hide at the back; I'll guard the entrance."
Without saying much, Xiaolan pulled Tang Lan straight to the innermost part of the cave and then ran back to Fei Hu's side, ready for a fight. Soon, these men pressed closer to the cave entrance. Since they were all armed, Fei Hu did not dare to act rashly but did not step back either; he kept watching the situation below. He noticed that Ouyang Hua was indeed very cunning; she stayed at the back and did not come up.
"You've got guts, young man. I've heard your skills are quite extraordinary, so today I, Huang Lao Qi, won't be ungracious and will use my gun against you. No matter what you think of me, I have no choice because I also need money," Huang Lao Qi said as he waved his hand, signaling two strong young men behind him to rush forward.
Two guns were pointed directly at Fei Hu's head. Seeing that the guns were about to touch Fei Hu's head made Xiaolan extremely anxious. Were they really going to be captured like this? Suddenly, Fei Hu sank down sharply, swept his hands out, and there were two screams as the young men with guns fell to the ground without knowing how it happened. The guns in their hands ended up in Fei Hu's possession.
Huang Lao Qi was taken aback; he did not expect Fei Hu to be this skilled. He raised his hand, and his handgun started firing rapidly, bullets flying around Fei Hu's feet like firecrackers, sending dirt and stones flying.
Although Fei Hu had a gun in hand, he didn't know what to do with it. Thus, he and Xiaolan kept retreating while Huang Lao Qi and his subordinates kept shooting at them until they were backed against the cave wall. Then Huang Lao Qi leaped forward and pressed his gun against Fei Hu's chest, breathing heavily as he said, "Young man, don't force me; be careful of accidental discharge; it could cost you your life."
No matter how skilled Fei Hu was, he still found himself powerless in front of a gun. He could only stare wide-eyed as Huang Lao Qi charged at him again with punches and kicks. Under the assault of everyone around him, Fei Hu was knocked down to the ground. This might have been the worst beating Fei Hu had ever received in his life.
His clothes were torn apart in some places where blood had been drawn. Xiaolan was anxious on the side but was held back by someone with a gun and couldn't move at all. As Fei Hu's shirt was ripped open, a beautiful jade pendant revealed itself. One of Huang Lao Qi's men saw it and his eyes lit up as he snatched it from Fei Hu's body and shouted happily to Huang Lao Qi, "Boss! A good item!"
Huang Lao Qi took the jade pendant and initially smiled broadly but suddenly froze in shock upon seeing it. He shouted loudly, "Everyone stop! Don't hit him anymore!" This shout startled his subordinates.
Huang Lao Qi quickly stepped over and helped Fei Hu up. He asked incredulously, "Little brother, are you really the boss of Dragon Tiger Gang?"
Fei Hu gritted his teeth and said honestly, "No!"
Upon hearing this, Huang Lao Qi thought Fei Hu was angry. He quickly rushed over to Fei Hu and, with an apologetic tone, said, "I'm sorry. The flood washed away the Dragon King Temple; I didn't recognize the great man and offended you, big brother. Don't worry, even though I'm no longer in the gang, from today on, your safety is my responsibility. Let's see who dares to touch you again."
As Huang Lao Qi spoke, he looked down the mountain and saw that Ouyang Hua had disappeared without a trace. He angrily cursed, "Damn woman, don't let me run into you again." After finishing his words, he clasped his fist towards Fei Hu and placed the Jade Pendant around Fei Hu's neck before turning to leave.
The sudden change left everyone momentarily confused. Xiao Lan stood there for a while before running over to help Fei Hu fix his clothes. She quietly asked, "Are you okay? Should I take you to the hospital?"
Fei Hu gritted his teeth and forced a smile, saying, "It's nothing; just a small injury doesn't matter." With that, he struggled to stand up.
Tang Lan walked over with a pale face. Trembling, she said, "I'm sorry, Fei Hu. I didn't expect things to turn out this badly; it almost cost everyone their lives. This is all my fault. I won't take the five million; even if it's ten million, I don't want it." It was clear that Tang Lan was terrified by the gunfire earlier since this incident stemmed from her actions.
"Let me go; I'll get the money right now. And that damn woman Ouyang Hua—I will definitely take revenge for you," Cheng Yong said while wiping the sweat from his forehead, looking like he had also been frightened.
Xiao Lan glared at Cheng Yong and said, "Do you think we can't do anything about you?"
"No, miss, you're exaggerating. Even someone like Huang Lao Qi wouldn't dare to touch you all. Even if I had ten times the courage, I wouldn't dare to act recklessly," Cheng Yong said sincerely, his eyes fixed on Fei Hu as he awaited his response.
Fei Hu took a deep breath and said to Cheng Yong, "You know what kind of person I am; I'm sure you saw a bit of it just now. So don't mess around. Get the money together as soon as possible and transfer it to our account. Otherwise, when I find you again, you won't die but will end up crippled. Besides, next time I deal with you, I won't even need to lift a finger; just one call to Huang Lao Qi will solve everything. Do you understand?"
"I understand; I completely understand," Cheng Yong replied with his head lowered, his attitude extremely flattering. Fei Hu waved him off, and Cheng Yong deeply bowed to Fei Hu before turning and running away until he vanished from sight.
Tang Lan looked at the departing Cheng Yong and said to Fei Hu, "Let's head down the mountain too! I've already let him go; I believe he won't come looking for trouble again."
Fei Hu smiled lightly and said, "He wouldn't dare even if given the chance because from now on, our safety is in Huang Lao Qi's hands. You can rest assured; they keep their word."
Tang Lan nodded and, along with Xiao Lan, supported Fei Hu as they walked step by step down the mountain.
By the time they returned to Rousi's house where they had stayed last night, it was nearly afternoon. The weather was unbearably hot at this time. Rousi had called a doctor for Fei Hu, who treated several of his wounds and then applied some medicine for bruises, both for oral use and topical application. Xiao Lan was quite considerate; she sat beside Fei Hu and continuously massaged the swollen areas on his body.
With a woman attending to him, Fei Hu could easily say he wasn't in pain. After lunch, as soon as he returned to his room, he took off his shirt and lay bare-chested on the bed. He thought to himself that this place felt quite different from home in terms of heat. Just as he was feeling restless, Tang Lan walked in wearing a short shirt. After some time adjusting, she had regained her elegant demeanor, and just a glance at her was refreshing.
Tang Lan generously sat down beside Fei Hu's bed, which made him feel a bit awkward. Just as he was about to get up, Tang Lan gently pressed her smooth hand on his back and said, "Don't get up; just lie there while I help you with your back. This will make you feel more comfortable and help your wounds heal faster."
Her words felt like a breath of spring to Fei Hu; he had no resistance left and could only obediently crawl back down. Tang Lan held a cool towel that had been soaked in cold water and placed it on Fei Hu's body, which felt incredibly refreshing.
After a while, Xiao Lan came in carrying a basin of cool water. She teamed up with Tang Lan, and together they began to wipe Fei Hu down. While wiping him, she also massaged him. This kind of pampering was a first for Fei Hu; feeling so comfortable, he inadvertently fell asleep. The exhaustion from the previous night hit him all at once, and he slept soundly until it was dark outside.
"Hey! It's time to wake up; look how soundly you're sleeping," Xiao Lan gently shook Fei Hu's back. He stretched comfortably and opened his eyes with a smile.
Tang Lan approached without hesitation and sat down next to Fei Hu, smiling as she said, "I have good news for both of you. I just received a call from home saying that my account has mysteriously increased by five million." Upon hearing this, both Fei Hu and Xiao Lan were so happy they almost jumped up.
Finally, it wasn't all in vain; it seemed that the beating he took wasn’t for nothing after all. Stepping out of the room, Fei Hu looked at the distant dark mountains and couldn't help but feel a whirlwind of thoughts in his mind. He began to think about the women back home; it seemed he had reached an age where he couldn't do without a woman's care by his side.
Dinner was quite simple and lacked any hint of Chinese flavor, which disappointed Fei Hu. However, since they had kindly prepared it for him, he felt bad not eating at all. He forced himself to eat a little before stepping out of the courtyard to stand by the Main Road and take in the night scenery of the small village.
Suddenly, a shadow rushed toward Fei Hu, startling him greatly.
