“Boss! A major incident has occurred. The brothers who went out today were suddenly attacked by unidentified individuals. Many of them were injured, and the mission has been aborted. Everyone has retreated,” a bloodied man gasped, struggling to catch his breath.
The masked woman glanced at Liu Yipiao with some concern and said softly, “Go! First take care of your injuries; we can discuss this later.” Her voice trembled slightly, revealing her anger, which she was clearly suppressing in front of others.
Fei Hu sat quietly in his chair, observing the changes in the room. Suddenly, the masked woman walked straight toward him, causing Fei Hu to hurriedly close his eyes. She approached him and gently checked his pulse with her delicate hand on his neck before returning to her previous position with a hint of relief.
Seeing this, Liu Yipiao quickly put on a smiling face and said, “Boss, I’ve brought the person to you; that’s my part done. The people here will be leaving soon. Just take care of this kid yourself.”
The masked woman nodded slightly and picked up the phone on the table, speaking softly, “Ah Fang, bring that bundle of cash to the reception room.”
Not long after she hung up, a woman dressed in black entered. She moved gracefully, and from her figure and hairstyle, it was clear she was quite young. Although she also wore a mask, Fei Hu felt somewhat certain about her identity.
The woman in black placed a bag in front of Liu Yipiao and silently stood to one side. Liu Yipiao's face lit up with joy as he quickly stood up and unzipped the large bag. To his astonishment, stacks of brand new bills were revealed, causing Fei Hu to shudder involuntarily. Without saying a word, Liu Yipiao grabbed the bag and headed for the door.
“Boss, this old man is getting off too easily. Where does he live? You guessed it all; he was just waiting below the hotel like a sitting duck and played the role of a driver. Earning this five hundred thousand seems too easy,” the woman in black expressed her dissatisfaction inwardly.
The masked woman stood up with her arms crossed and pondered for a moment before saying, “This isn’t just about money; you’ll understand some things later. A-Tie has encountered some issues that we need to handle immediately. This kid can’t stay locked in the basement any longer; give him a better room and some food.”
“Boss, are you sure we shouldn’t keep an eye on him?” the woman in black asked with concern.
The woman glanced at the barely conscious Fei Hu and replied, “It’s fine; look at him—he wouldn’t be able to escape even if we threw him out onto the street. Moreover, the drug Liu Yipiao administered will last for seven days, so we don’t need to worry about him. Once we finish dealing with A-Tie’s situation, we can come back and deal with this kid later.” With that, she led the way out of the hall.
The woman in black approached Fei Hu and bent down to lift him onto her shoulder effortlessly. For her, carrying Fei Hu's weight felt like nothing at all. From her posture while carrying him, Fei Hu could tell that this woman was exceptionally skilled—definitely not someone to underestimate. He couldn't help but feel intrigued by the masked woman; everything felt like a scene from a movie—indeed quite bizarre.
The woman in black turned the room into a guest room, tossed Fei Hu onto the bed, and then left. After a while, she returned holding a large plastic bag filled with food and several bottles of mineral water. Without saying a word, she placed the items on the bedside table and walked out, locking the door behind her. It seemed that his captors had locked him in.
Fei Hu lay on the bed, not daring to move. He tightly closed his eyes and listened carefully to the sounds outside. He was afraid there might be cameras in the room; if those two women hadn't left, he would be exposed.
Sure enough, he soon heard a car driving away from downstairs. Fei Hu guessed that the two women had indeed left, so he slowly opened his eyes. The room was elegantly decorated and well-equipped, and it even had a bathroom.
When Fei Hu got out of bed, he realized that his shoes were still on his feet, which meant they hadn't changed them, and that was very good. After carefully inspecting the room and confirming there were no cameras, he rushed to the window, gently pulled up the curtain, and looked outside. To his surprise, he found that his room was on the third floor. From the surrounding buildings, Fei Hu deduced that this was not a villa area; it felt more like being in the mountains.
He opened the curtain and pushed open the window. Fei Hu was almost about to shout with joy when he noticed there were no security bars outside the window. However, when he looked down, his heart sank. Below the window was a sheer cliff at least ten feet high; no wonder they didn't install security bars.
Leaning out of the window to assess the situation outside, Fei Hu realized that this place was a residential building left behind after demolition.
It seemed that the owner of this house had some influence; despite everything being torn down around it, this house remained standing. But Fei Hu had no time to ponder these matters; his priority was to escape.
Desperate and scratching his head, Fei Hu suddenly thought of calling someone for help. He reached into his pocket and—thankfully—his phone was still there. Overjoyed, he fumbled with his hands to turn it on. As the startup sound finished playing, a message on the screen nearly made him bang his head against the wall: "No Service." No wonder they ignored him when he pretended to use his phone.
What should he do now? Time was passing quickly. Watching the sun set in the west made Fei Hu feel like ants were crawling inside him; once it got dark, escaping from such a height would be extremely difficult.
Suddenly, Fei Hu's gaze landed on the bed. He remembered seeing in movies where people escaping would tear sheets and blankets into strips to make ropes. Excited by this idea, he thought it might be worth a try; perhaps this was his chance.
In no time at all, Fei Hu had torn up new sheets and blankets into long strips. He carefully tied each knot until he had created a rope from them. He secured one end of this makeshift rope to the bedpost and tossed the other end out of the window. To his dismay, it seemed a bit short; it barely reached down to the second floor below. What should he do now? Even if he reached the ground, there was still that cliff below!
He decided to take a look anyway; after all, he had already prepared everything. If worse came to worst, he could just jump down—it would be better than being tortured to death. With that thought in mind, Fei Hu stepped out of the window without hesitation and grabbed hold of the rope as he began to climb down slowly. It went surprisingly smoothly; within moments, Fei Hu found himself on top of the second-floor window ledge. The glass in this room's window was completely shattered, and half of the iron railing had been removed by someone else, leaving a large hole in its place.
The rope just reached the window on the second floor and then disappeared. Fei Hu glanced at the high cliff and felt a chill run down his spine. It would be a miracle if he didn't die from jumping down. Was this how his life was going to end? He was unwilling to accept it. Fei Hu's feet landed on the edge of the second-floor window, and after hesitating for a moment, he jumped into the room.
The room was empty, devoid of anything, like an abandoned house.
Fei Hu walked around the room twice, finding no way out. He climbed onto the windowsill to look down. It was no use; first, he couldn't get down, and second, there was only a tiny ledge just a few centimeters wide below. If he wasn't careful, he would fall off the cliff. Fei Hu couldn't help but resent the owner of this house; if they had torn it down earlier, he wouldn't be in such an awkward situation.
With a cliff on one side and a closed door on the other, what was he supposed to do? The sky gradually darkened, and Fei Hu felt anxious. He looked at the closed door and suddenly had a wild thought: what if the door wasn't locked from the outside? There was indeed a possibility since this house was abandoned. Thinking of this, Fei Hu rushed to the door and twisted the doorknob. With a click, the door opened, and he almost shouted with joy.
Following the hallway with several twists and turns, Fei Hu finally exited the building. When he turned back to look, he saw that the building was in ruins. Why was there such a stark contrast between its exterior and interior? Fei Hu almost got distracted by the interior design, but now wasn't the time to ponder that.
Fei Hu ran along a stone-paved path in front of the building. As he ran, he realized he had entered mountainous terrain. Oh my! Where had he been taken this afternoon? How far was this from City A? Fei Hu felt utterly confused.
Just as he was gasping for breath, he saw headlights flashing in the distance ahead. His heart sank; it could be those two women returning. With that thought in mind, Fei Hu leaped into the bushes by the roadside and lay flat on the ground. Soon after, several cars whizzed past.
Fei Hu stood up; that was close! There were four cars in total, carrying at least ten people. If they had spotted him, he would have been caught again. Truly, fate was on his side. He quickly dashed onto the main road and began to run.
Wait! I have two legs while they have four wheels. Once they realize I'm missing, they'll chase after me; how could I outrun their cars? Realizing this, Fei Hu darted back into the bushes by the roadside and instinctively climbed up a small hill.
Fei Hu's guess was spot on; before long, several cars sped past on a nearby path, indicating that these people were in a hurry. However, Fei Hu couldn't figure out who these people were.
The cars were heading eastward, which meant his position must be west of City A. Understanding his direction gave him some clarity as he continued walking forward. Having extensive experience traveling through deep mountains at night, Fei Hu soon climbed over a small hill and spotted twinkling lights not far ahead.
Seeing cars with their lights on passing by filled Fei Hu with hope; it seemed like there was a national road nearby—perhaps there was still hope for him. Just as he felt relieved, an angry shout came from behind him: "Put your hands up!" Once again, Fei Hu's heart dropped into an icy abyss.
